Just Back from Fabulous Poly Stay - Tahiti Building is Awesome!

We booked a garden view room and didn't ask for a special room ahead of time. We checked in, saw where the Tahiti building was, and were happy to be hear the TTC. But as we entered the building and started looking at the room numbers, we started to get excited because it seemed like we had a MK view room. And we did! We were on the ground floor, facing the beach and MK. It was awesome! The kids would go out and play catch with a football in the mornings, and we watched the fireworks from the beach a few nights.

My only complaint, having never stayed at the Poly before, is that the walls are paper thin. You can hear things going on in the hall and the rooms next to you. We had a crying baby in the room next to us for most of our stay. It wasn't a huge deal - and we've had our trips with a crying baby so I felt their pain - but it seemed rooms at the All Star Resorts were quieter. Of course it's probably that the Poly is an older resort.

Captain Cooks was great - they have self serve Dole Whips - yum! and we also enjoyed breakfast at O'Hana and dinner at Kona Cafe.

Oh - I have one more complaint - we weren't there long enough to really enjoy the resort more. We only had four nights (we usually go for a week) so we spent most of the time at the parks. With more time, I would have liked to rent a boat, spend time at the pool, and just laying in a hammock on the beach.

thanks for the report....one day I will stay at the poly.
M.K view must be awesome.

Welcome back! I'm glad you had a great trip to WDW and the Polynesian resort! :sunny:

Congrats on the upgrade to your view. I love watching the fireworks from the Polynesian. You really see the full 180 degrees because you're back further than if you were inside the park. :3dglasses

We've only ever stayed in the Hawaii building and I've always been surprised that we didn't hear our neighbors. I don't know if it's because we've had quiet neighbors, or because the construction is different. Some of the buildings, including Tahiti, were built after the initial construction of the resort.

I know exactly what you mean about wanting more time to spend just at the resort. I always try and schedule in some resort time. Sometimes I wake up in the morning and want to stay there and not rush off to the parks. lol That's one of the great things about the Polynesian; it's like a vacation within a vacation!

If you have any pictures, I'd love to see them! I just started a brand new 2008 FAQ thread for the Polynesian. If you get a chance, could you please post your review of the resort over there?? Thanks so much! :)

Here's a link to that thread, although I think it's still on Page 1 right now:

What a nice surprise! A MK view! Glad you enjoyed your stay. Sounds like you just have to plan a return and longer stay! :) I'll be back in 3 days! :)

Sea Spray -

I'd be glad to post my review and pictures there. I've never posted pictures before, but I'm sure I can figure it out. My only pictures are of the kids in the beach area - my fireworks pictures didn't come out.

Actually, I think the older resorts are much better made than the newer. As time went on, not only did they make the rooms smaller, but they figured out cheaper ways of building them by using cheaper materials.

Tahiti is actually considered one of the "newer" buildings at the Poly (along with Tokelau and Rapa Nui, except in this case, the rooms in those buildings were made bigger than the older ones, even the concierge bldg.). The Contemporary and the Poly have the largest rooms on property. They were built first. Hearing the crying baby may have been due to the connecting door (did you have one?). The hallway noise has always been a problem because of the space between the bottom of the door and the carpet. We always put a towel by the front door to cover that and help keep the noise out. I hear the same things go on at POP too, so, as I have said in the past, sometimes there is very little difference (except I hear that the noise level can be higher at the values).
