wow! where to begin? PoisonIvy - THANK YOU! This includes so much info that I bookmarked it! Thank you also to jiminy for help with parking procedures. And WOW that swag! It kept going on and on and on! Just when I thought DCL maxed on the swag there was more!
So we are in the Philly area and thought for sure we'd just drive but now this whole Pier 88 vs Pier 90 thing has me a little concerned. Should we try and just park in pier 90? Will they let you? We are walkers and don't mind walking but we will have little ones in tow with us, a 9 year old and 6 year old, they are used to walking but I just hope it's safe and not overwhelming to walk between piers.... comforting to know the porters will go all the way there, we'll be happy to toss them $20 if that's the case.
Also we're doing this cruise for many reasons but definitely want to see the statue of liberty, assume it's not a huge big deal if we're late to dinner on the first night to see the statue? My 6 year old really wants to see it
Hopefully, you can get the information regarding where the Magic will dock for each leg of your cruise ahead of time. I'd contact the Manhattan Cruise Terminal if nothing else.
Also, keep in mind NCL's Gem and Breakaway have priority in NYC so if either is in port on the day you return (in our case it was a Sun), they'll be docked at Pier 88.
I'd probably just drive and park at the pier the ship is docked at when you arrive, and spring for a porter as Jiminy14 did if you happen to return to the other pier.
It is a bit far to lug everything between the two terminals.
Plus, It's a decent walk the length of these piers to begin with, when you leave the ship.
I cannot emphasize enough what a blessing the porters are at this port.
As I stated, we walked practically the length of pier to enter and again to exit the terminal.
Here you can see the distance, as we are walking off the ship w/carry-ons in tow heading to collect our luggage. (I strongly recommend putting bags out the night before if you don't need to early disembark.)
I'm standing stationary - looking up ahead toward the entrance.
and glancing back at the exit ramp off the ship
Finally!
Once inside you'll see the porters available to assist - look for their safety vests.
(no pics except to peek in from the outside)
They work hard. it's not that close to get to back to street level.
Again I'm standing in place here for the next two shots.
If you look to the right, you'll notice the street levels in the distance. We entered back into the terminal before exiting outside.
The porters also assisted curbside to the cabs which were ready and waiting.
on our way! Again, well worth the assistance. (we tipped 25 but that's a personal choice)
