Just returned today. We LOVED this resort! I was concerned about staying there given some of the comments I've read about it needing refurbishment, etc., but it was great! DH didn't want to stay there b/c he said it didn't have any theming (he loves the WL) but he is now hooked. It is VERY Disney and you feel right in the middle of the action. The room was HUGE, clean and the bathroom layout was convenient. We loved walking to the MK and having the monorail right there was a huge plus.

My only complaint (and it's not specific to the CR I'm sure) is what is the deal with the toilet paper and tissue? I'd get better quality in prison LOL! My allergies were bothering me and the tissue was so rough on my nose. You'd think for the $$ they'd provide some Angel Soft or something. Next time we'll bring our own :teeth:

Would be glad to answer any questions!

I have a question for ya. How long did it take you to ride the bus over to AK? I am going in 3 weeks and just making a few itineraries up. Thanks!

Sorry Georgieut, but we always rent a car so no experience on the bus.
Hope you enjoy your trip :)

Could you tell us if any or all of the rooms in the tower had been re done, I know that there were 2 that had been, but I was wondering if any more had been done. Thanks for the update, hubby and I are staying there in september and are looking forward to it,

From what we could tell, so far it is just the 2 rooms.
If you are standing on the MK side, they are all the way on the lower right hand corner of the resort. We only saw the outside, but you can tell they are different as the railing is more of a brass color than the railing on the other rooms and the sliding glass door is 4 panes rather than just 2 panes.

Quick story: I'll never forget returning home from Disney a couple of years ago when going through airport security. A couple's luggage was being searched at the xray machines. The security agent found roles of toilet paper the couple had "borrowed" from their hotel and placed them very prominently on top of the pile of their personal effects. The lady was soooo embarrassed by the display. She should have been: who steals hotel toilet paper?

Glad to hear you had a good stay. We are doing a YC/CR split. I chose YC and DH chose CR - he has wanted to stay there since he was a child. I think we're some of the few people who will actually like the decor. (Our family room has bright yellow walls, a lime green sectional from the 50s and a red chair - the CR rooms should feel like home!)

So glad you had a great stay, regardless of what you've read here. Let's face it, when was the last time you agreed with a movie critic? Exactly, it's just an opinion, and should be taken with a grain of salt. Ya wanna try a new resort, do it, you're in DW, what could be better.

SUsan,
Some very specific questions.
When did you arrive at the resort and how was your check-in experience?
Were all, some, or none of your room requests honored? Which ones were and which ones were not?
Did you have a Bay Lake or MK view? Which Floor were you on?
DId you have a king bed room or two queens?
What amenities are available in the bathrooms of the non-concierge floor bathrooms?
Was the non-concierge floor Guest services/concierge helpful at all in helping you get things or do special things?
How was the pool? Was it clean? The Spa?
DId you do any watercraft activities? How was the rental desk?

Ok.. well.. if you see from my signature.. my fiance and I are spending our honeymoon there in October and I have lots of questions in my hope to make her feel like an absolute princess from minute one (we are already getting a limo to and from the airport and flying first class)

Thanks a billion.

LOL I thought the same thing last fall when I went on my trip (guess I had forgotten how rought that stuff is!). When I went in January I sent down some Kleenex and nice "quilted" toilet paper ahead of time so I had good stuff to use. I will be doing that again on my next trip :)

sdlipton:

We didn't arrive until 9:30pm due to a flight delay and because we stopped at Goodings for snacks. When we walked up to the front desk there were no other guests and 3 CM's were working. The 3 were (jokingly) 'competing' for us to get into their line. We also had our 6.5 month daughter with us and they have her lots of attention & offers to babysit! So right off the bat it was a very friendly, positive experience.

Our only room request was for a MK view and the CM explained that all of the MK view rooms were gone but that we could come back the next day and if there was one available we could switch (I think it was because we checked in so late). We were initially disappointed until we got into our room (9th floor, room 4519) and saw our view of Bay Lake which was beautiful. We looked out over the marina and the pools and could see the top of WL and Spaceship Earth at Epcot in the distance. We also enjoyed the electrical water pageant every night. We didn't miss the MK view at all and in fact my DH correctly pointed out that if you have a MK view you can see SM and the castle in the distance, but in front of you is quite a bit of concrete and the entire parking area. Of course you can't see the fireworks from a Bay Lake side room, but they do have a large viewing area on the 4th floor if you want to see them. We were only in our room 1 night when the fireworks were going off anyway. We were really happy with our side of the hotel and wouldn't hesitate to stay on that side again.

We had 2 queen beds which were VERY comfortable. I have lower back pain and can't ever sleep on my stomach b/c of it, but here I woke up on my stomach every morning and had no back pain. The only thing I didn't like is the blanket on the bed - it's one of those typical kind of old fashioned style blankets that you see in hotels. I would have prefered a different kind. Also there were extra pillows in the closet.

Amenities: there were the Mickey soaps, shampoo/conditioner combo, mouthwash, toothpaste, lotion, hairnet and maybe a toothbrush - ? I can't remember for sure. We used the shampoo and soaps and they were replaced daily.

As far as guest services, we used them one time to change a PS and it took a long time, but we found out after that it took so long because the original CM (on the phone) who took our PS had spelled our last name wrong. I asked for directions from GS one morning to Target and they were very helpful. One day the shower handle broke (luckily after we had showered for the day) and we called maintenance who came up right away and fixed it. We had some extremely friendly people (like the 3 CMs the first night and Richard from Bell Services who brought our luggage up and gave us the rundown on the resort and the happenings at the parks), some just polite people and only one borderline rude person at the Food & Fun Center who was obviously just not having a good day (no hello, no 'thank you', nothing).

Pool was very clean & there were several lifeguards and always plenty of towels. There were always lots of people at the pool, but it didn't have an overly crowded feeling to it. We didn't use the spa, sorry.

DH rented a water sprite while DD slept one day & I sat out on the balcony w/my binoculars and watched him. He said they were friendly at the rental desk, but his main comment was the other boaters who don't watch where they are going and don't pay attention to the big boats.

We honeymooned at the Dolphin back in 98 (October too!). Just mention to everyone it is your honeymoon, but don't expect something every single time or you'll likely be disappointed. Some people make a big deal, others say nothing. Wear your Mickey Bride & Groom ears and now they have a honeymoon button that I noticed some people wearing (don't know where you get it though, maybe someone else does). Best wishes!

I am another big CR fan :sunny: My kids refuse to stay in any other resort at WDW!

I'm glad to hear you had a good time in the CR tower. I am excited at the prospect of the rooms being remodeled. I've always wanted to stay in tower since I was a teen and visited Disney World for the first time, and now that they're finally refurbishing the rooms, I will definitely plan to stay there at least for a night or two on a future trip :) Maybe before or after our Disney cruise in 2006 :boat:

I agree about the views; I think a view of Bay Lake would be just as nice, if not nicer, than a MK view. :sunny:

Does anyone know what the schedule is for the refurb of the tower rooms? I know that 2 rooms are done; are they continuing work on the rest of them??

Wow..
Susan.. thank you so very much for answering pretty much everysingle one of my questions. Your help was phenomenal. Iam now even more excited then i was before.

If anyone has anything to add on my questions to susan..please do so. I know these boards are SOO awesome!

Cool, glad you had a great trip. I definitely want to stay there some time, I think the Contemporary is still a cool lookin' hotel. :)

We are leaving in 4 hours!!!! Will be staying at CR for second time. My DD is now 23 and was last at CR 10 years ago. First time for our other children 6 and 8.

When we stayed at AKL they had kids acitivities by the pool. Free arts and crafts, cookie decorating etc. Does CR have anything like this?

iluvepcot: Nope, there was nothing like that at the CR pool, sorry.
Have a great trip!

We loved our Bay Lake view. We would sit on the balcony in our PJs to watch the EWP each night!
