Well, we just got back from our first trip to BCV. A 7 day stay in a 1-bedroom. This trip ranked only a "so-so" due to rainy weather and all three of us (wife, me, 6 yr old) being ill. However, a few observations:

Transportation - we used yourride.com for the first time - excellent service and I would highly recommend them.

Check-in - CM "Dulce" checked us in. Check in was quick, however Dulce was not familiar with the BCV layout. We had requested an Epcot view, but there were non available (no big deal). So I asked for a quiet room. What we got was a room right next door to an elevator (Room 366) - however we didn't realize this (because the elevator is tucked around a corner and goes down to the pool) until we returned from the parks in the evening. By the time we were in a position to complain (we had an unscheduled trip to the emergency room in between!), we decided we didn't want the hassle of moving. But Beware!!! If you get a room around the elevator shaft, there isn't enough soundproofing to stop you from hearing that darn elevator until the wee hours!

Resort - Beautiful resort, well kept, and we didn't find the rooms to be that much of a hike to anything. Quiet pools were generally quiet - with the exception of one night (see below). All in all, no problems with general appearance and maintenance.

Room - Room was beautiful - clean, spacious (we are new DVC members, so a 1-bedroom was luxurious for us), nice view of the Dunes Cove pool, hidden mickeys, great shower stall (huge). One minor complaint - I wish they had a DVD player in the bedroom as well as the living room - heck, you can get these for under $75 now and it sure would have been nice to watch a movie while our daughter slept in the living room - but this was our only, very minor, complaint about the room.

Resort Staff - Unfortunately, we found the resort staff to be, generally, lackluster. No "Welcome Homes", not much in the way of greetings or smiles, not very helpful. We had one situation when a family with 5-6 kids were in the Dunes Cove pool at about 10:00 pm - being very noisy. I let it go for about 15 minutes, then called to complain. Front desk told me that they had already had several complaints and were sending out a CM to fix the problem. I watched from the balcony as a CM approached the "Mother -in - charge" at the pool. "Mom" just shrugged her shoulders as if to say "Hey, what can I do". CM obviously didn't want a confrontation and just walked away. My second phone call produced "Well, Sir, we told them to quiet down but there's not much more we can do" - Excuse me!! You have an obligation to your guests to ensure a pleasant stay!! Come on!! Anyway, I've several other examples of CM's poor performances, but won't go into further detail. Needless to say, this was the most disappointing part of our trip.

So - all in all, an ok trip (our third in the last 2 years) - however, I do see a definite decline in the quality of Disney which I hope is corrected (after all, we have 40 years worth of trips left to go!).

Thanks for the tip about rooms near the elevators. It gives me good reason to ask for a room not near elevators. The added exercise walking helps justify eating more goodies.

I just returned Sunday from a weekend trip at BCV. Stayed on 5th floor studio room 524 I believe it was which is to the right off the main elevator. I never heard a soul walking, running, flushing, sink running, nothing.

We too didn't hear a "Welcome Home" until we rode over to Olivia's.

SteveD are you going to write a letter to Disney? I think management should be aware of your issues. Although I am new to DVC I will be going home to BCV in June and am looking forward to hearing "Welcome Home". I hope the CMs are better trained in the future.

mb168 - I will also be at BCV when you are there. Who are you travelling with? I will have DH, DS and his best friend with me. I'm planning to bring a lime green ribbon with me too. What a great place to celebrate your birthday. Maybe I'll see you there. Annmarie

We recently returned from an 8 night stay at BCV. We also didn't get a Welcome Home. All the check-in lady said was "Here is your Welcome Home packet". The valet people were the most enthusiastic CM's I found at this resort.

When we checked into BCV earlier this month, we got a "Welcome Home" when the CM realized that we were members.:D :D :D

I've never stayed near an elevator at a WDW resort, but I know what you're talking about from other traveling, UGH!!!

It's a shame that they're not more forceful when guests are disruptive. There are times when that "niceness" needs a bit more backbone.

I'm happy that you enjoyed yourself in spite of the glitches.

We just try to avoid the "quiet pool" area, because they never are! 10 pm isn't bad at all. Our one stay at Grand Floridian was in a 3rd floor room overlooking the quiet pool, which was very noisy until 1 am! I called to complain, nothing happened. The worst part is, after they left the pool, the party moved into the adjoining room next to us! Diana

My DW who will be about 8 mos pregnant by then, her two DD 7 and 4, and my DS 6 at that time. We have ressie for a 1 BR but we're fixing to do an add on since we just found out about the new "little one" so we may go ahead and switch to a 2 BR since we'll have a few "extra" points this year. She's due first week of July, the 4th would be COOL:D !!

So, we'll be the 6' guy with the pregnant 5' DW yelling at the 3 wild youngin's at SAB:D .

Sorry you ran into Mrs MeMyselfandI. Usually when I run into something like this and staff doesn't want to take care of it, the next morning I start complaining to the manager and continue up until it gets taken care of.

It's ashame that some people don't have respect for others. If they did, the world would be a lot nicer!!!

StevieD...

Thanks for sharing the report about your trip. And sorry to hear your family incurring illness on vacation....that's the pits!

During our first trip "home" to VWL this year we didn't hear a "Welcome Home" for the first couple of days. We were so thrilled with the 1BR accommodations and the whole DVC thing that we didn't mind much.

On the third day, we were driving our car into the resort past the guard shack. A man came out to check on us, and noticed that we were DVC members. He immediately straightened up, gave us a sharp salute and said "Welcome Home".

After that, we looked for the guard and if he was on duty, we made sure we went by his post. Everytime, we got the salute and the "Welcome Home". It was pretty cool.

Our second trip this summer was to BWV. We got the "Welcome Home" from the check-in staff and many others during our stay. Strange how much importance we attach to that little phrase. And strange that Disney doesn't train the CM's better to use it more often...doesn't take much really, does it?

And StevieD...I'm sure you will have more wonderful vacations in the next 40 years than you have lackluster ones. Thanks for the report.
