Just back from BC and GF Concierge

Just back from our long awaited trip to WDW. We had a great time. I had worried about crowds and all kinds of things, but it turned out to be fine. We started at the BC concierge. They first put us a million miles away from the concierge lounge. We asked to be moved, which they did. The room had a smell which they took care of the next day. The kids loved the SAB pool. The concierge staff was very helpful, but I wasn't impressed with the food at the lounge. (My kids did love the Krispy Kreme donuts every day.) The food was pretty much the same every day. Not much at all around lunch and dinner.
The GF concierge was a different story. There was a lot more food and a lot of variety. There was a lot of gourmet stuff that my kids were not thrilled about, but they always found something good. We had towel animals and everything was very clean! The kids enjoyed the pool, but the slide was not available for a few days- they had a boat to go the Polynesian pool to make up for the disappointment. The kids had fun exploring a different pool.
The crowds weren't that bad- some days/times were better than others.
I'm feeling a little sad to be home, but I'm thinking of all of you with upcoming trips...enjoy!!!!!!1

Sounds like you had a great trip! My kids love the Poly pool! Were you in the GF RPC or Sugarloaf. DH is trying to talk me into RPC for our December trip. :goodvibes Welcome back to reality!

We were in the RPC. If we were going to splurge, my husband wanted to be in the main building- fine with me!!!! I understand that there is no alcohol in the Sugar Loaf lounge. Also, RPC can use Sugar Loaf, but not vice versa. I didn't think that it would matter to me, but the Sugar Loaf is right near the pool and we did pop in for a soda, etc... If you are going to do the concierge, I would defininely go for RPC. The main building is so beautiful. It was so relaxing to listen to the music and enjoy a snack. The main building is also so convenient with the monorail. We absolutely loved it. My husband is an "engineer" who is tough to please. He thought it was fabulous too! I think December would be so great with the Christmas decorations. Happy dreams!

Wow, I wonder if this is a recent change. We've always been told that you have access to only the concierge level that you have booked, unless you're in a suite. Our last RPC stay was in 2004 though. I'm glad you enjoyed it and yes it's beautiful at Christmas.

We stayed at the GF for the first time last Thanksgiving week. We also splurged for the RPC. I LOVED it!!! The resort is so charming & the Xmas decorations (including the life size gingerbread house shop) were up. I am glad you had a nice trip. How were the concierge CMs?? They (well a couple) were our only downer. Everyone else we ran into was just so friendly and smiling. We are WDW vets, but after that stay the GF is our new favorite.

That is interesting news about the RPC being able to use SL. It would be convenient to stop into SL from the pool.

Thanks for the report! It makes me start dreaming of returning..... :p

Brook106,

I loved the "engineer" comment. I get it! :goodvibes I live with one also. My husband loves the GF and feels that it is worth the extra $.

Did you stay in a standard room or in a suite? Did you have a nice view?

Would you mind telling us what some of the appetizers were in the evenings?

Thanks so much,

Lori

Hi Brook! I too would love to hear recnt offerings/reviews of the RPC as we are booked for this fall! THanks for sharing :flower:

Dear Lori,
We had a standard room with a nice view. We asked for a view of Magic Kingdom, which we got. However, of course, there was another GF building in the way of seeing it! We were in room 4417. Nevertheless it turned out to be nice we had a view of the quiet pool, Seven Seas Lagoon to the right (We could see Epcot firewords far away.) and more water to the left. Actually with our "Magic Kingdom view" we could sit on our balcony and see the Wishes fireworks. (We only discovered this because my husband stayed back at the hotel one night when he wasn't feeling well.) I think the view from Gasparillas is the best though!
The appetizers varied every night. They would have two hot dishes (crab cakes, stuffed mushrooms, sliced steak, chicken skewers, lemon chicken, won tons, beef burritos..), 2-3 cold things (mussels, sushi, spring rolls, chicken with lettuce, beans) and cheese, crackers, cut up vegetables. They had so much more than the BC concierge it's not even funny. Let's put it this way, we all gained 5 pounds- yikes!

If you have any other questions, let me know!

Oh, I forgot to add something.... I had read a post on these boards that RPC could use Sl lounge, but not vice versa. I didn't ask anyone at the GF about it. Our card opened the door to the Sugar Loaf building/lounge, so I didn't think anything about it and assumed that the information was true. Now people have responded that they were surprised. So, I can't tell you if this is officially true.

Thanks Brook106 for taking the time to respond. I know that you must be swamped being a teacher! I can't tell you how many school functions I've been to this week!

I am looking forward to the RPC. The offerings sound delicious.

Thanks so much,

Lori
