Although the lodge was beautiful, we were not impressed with the room at all :sad1:

The value room did have a pull-out twin in the living area but there was not enough room to open it up, you could barely open & close the door in the bedroom without hitting the bed, the bathroom didn't have a seperate shower (don't know if this is the way all of them are), and the room was incredibly dark (especially the bathroom vanity area).
None of the lights worked in the kitchen or living room areas when we got there (found out that the circuits were tripped by housekeeping & they didn't fix it), lots of little "treasures" were left behind under the beds & in drawers (even found a half-eaten cookie laying in the corner), no blankets in the closet, no extra trash bags in the bottoms of the cans, and no dishwasher soap.
Our top-off was that the coffee maker had a replacement carafe that was too small. You had to lift it up to allow the coffee to brew down or it overflowed all over the counter

So sorry about your stay....

did you tell management....did they then clean the room and give you
a proper carafe...etc...

We did not have any extra trash bags either. We also did not receive new shampoo on trash and towel day. We also had some stuff in the armoire when we checked in. I thought it was weird because the room had only been open for 9 days.

Interesting. Officially the occupancy of a Value 1BR is 4 vs. 5 in a non-Value 1BR due to the sleeper chair. I assumed there would be a different chair in the Values. Seems a bit of a waste to put a sleeper chair in there when there isn't enough room to open it.

the bathroom didn't have a separate shower (don't know if this is the way all of them are)
All of the 1BRs in Jambo House have a combined tub and shower.

Gosh that is awful...I am sorry I hope your vacation was wonderful though! Hopefully this is fixed by AKV!

I'm so sorry to hear of your stay. That sort of puts a damper on the trip to start out that way. I hope you brought to someones attention that your room was not clean? There is no excuse for that really.

I must say, regarding AKL, when we stayed there about 3 years ago...we found the room so dark that I really had trouble seeing. My hubby also said the same thing. I had brought a paperback book to read, and I had trouble laying in bed even reading. My hubby dropped a contact lense that we never did locate (due to no lighting). I really did not enjoy it for that and other reasons (the room that is). I did enjoy the restaurant there however.

I hope you have a much better trip the next round!

Sorry... this is not normal... Hope you're next vacation is much better.

Wow, this is sad news. DW and i will be in a 1 br value next summer. I hope that AKV staff gets it together.

Did management remedy the situation for you?

We had to call about the lights ... and then had to call to get a blanket for the pull-out sofa. Didn't want to call back again, so we just dealt with things & let them know when we checked out so the next people would have a better stay ... hopefully :santa:

I didn't think that there were going to be chairs in the value villas. It does seem like a waste and it takes up valuable floor space.

I wonder if that was mistakenly put in the villa?

I expected there would be a chair because there is one in 1BRs at other resorts. I didn't expect it would be a sleeper chair since 1) there isn't room to pull it out in addition to the sofa and 2) the occupancy of the Value 1BRs is 4 not 5. Assuming you could pull out either the sofa or the chair, it does provide an option for those with one young child and a toddler to use the sleeper chair instead of the sofa, leaving some space to use the pack and play.

Thanks Lisa for all the great info!

I didnt learn this little tidbit until after I had booked our Christmas 07 trip. This would have been a deal breaker if I had known. Not looking forward to sharing a tub with Dh and the boys who shower all the time:headache:

That really defeats the purpose of the 1 bedroom Concierge units.

OP, sorry you didnt have an enjoyable stay. It is going to be hard for some to balance the benefit of saving points with what they get in the value units.
I personally do not think we will use them, it is just too much of a departure from how we normally stay.

I can understand that some compromises had to be made due to the conversion but I wish this hadn't been one of them. I look forward to taking long relaxing soaks in the jacuzzi when we're at WDW but it will be hard to do that when you know you are holding up someone else who wants to take a shower. Also, given it's a deep tub it's going to be a little difficult for those of us who are "height challenged" to get in and out of the shower.

When I first saw photos of the models at AKV, that was my first thought -- TOO DARK. Kind of the same way I feel when I see any photos of VWL...it's not for me.

Are the bathrooms light enough to apply makeup or are they really too dark?
