Hi everyone-
This will be fairly brief as I am trying to catch up...
The Lodge was gorgeous. I mean, absolutely breathtaking. I wasn't sure what to expect from an African themed lodge at Christmas, but WOW! I had stayed at AKL in November of 02 and loved it and thought it was beautiful, but the decorations really took the cake! If you have the chance, book a December stay at AKL - you won't be sorry!
We were in room 2573, Arusha Savannah, Zebra Trail. Our requests were for something close to 2511 which is where we were last year. Even though we stayed concierge part of our stay, our request for a 2nd floor room was happily accommodated. The view from the 2nd floor is amazing. It's pretty cool to be eye to eye with a giraffe! This location is also fairly close to the Mara and the pool (not that we needed the pool much this time around - BRRRRRRR!). We were a decent hike from the lobby, but that wasn't a big deal to us.
I enjoyed concierge though I'm not sure I'd do it again. We spend a solid 10-12 hours or so at the parks on the average day, so most of the offerings are cleared out before we get back. The breakfast is nice, but a bagel is a bagel! We did do the SUnrise Safari (our primary reason for staying concierge) and loved it! Our 3 year-old DD thought it was fantastic. There were lots of kids in our group and all were well behaved. I highly recommend staying concierge at AKL for just this reason. If you like your WDW time at a more leisurely pace, I think that concierge is great. If, however, you're more like us and really enjoy the parks till there is no more rubber on the sole of your shoes, you can probably safely skip it!
