and WOW on online check-in. We're STILL blown away (and it was five hours ago)...we got off ME, walked in the lobby and the Disney personnel came right up to us...took us over to Bell Services where our welcome folder was waiting--w/all our room keys all ready to go...our villa was ready. We've got linked reservations (first is for two nights, then 3 nights of one each)...I did online check-in only for the first two-night reservation...the first MS person I talked to said it would go thru automatically for all 5 nights cuz the reservatons are linked; the second MS person I talked to said I needed to do each one separately...I only did the first one...the links worked perfectly; we were checked in for all five nights. The only "problem" is that I couldn't use my Disney reward dollars to pay for the DP...(only because I wanted to revel in our 45-second check-in!)...but that's not a problem...I only have about $100 worth to use up and that will go fast w/5 of us here! Check-in literally took less than a minute. It was just incredibly awesome!

We've been arriving in stages...DS & I got here just after noon; DS' GF got here right around 3; 2 other college kids arrived just after 5 (this is DS' college graduation celebration)...two of the kids have never been here before, so we walked them around BC, YC, BW...their eyes are so big...it's awesome...

Stormalong Bay looks gorgeous...the "kiddie area" is still closed but the slide, lazy river etc are open and obviously refurbished...just beautiful!

DS & I went over to Epcot to wander for the couple of hours we were here before the others started arriving...we stopped for chocolate crepes at the stand outside France...they're now a dining plan snack! Crowds were pretty light for the 2 hours mid-day we were there...we're going back tonight for an 8:15 dinner at Chefs de France...it'll be awesome for seeing Illuminations!

Altogether magical and wonderful beginning to a trip that has the college kids so excited they can hardly stand it (gotta admit: it's quite the big deal from their perspective...)

Will check in again as the week progresses...but this is an AWESOME beginning! Everything good that is Disney is in full operation...yay!

See end of thread (at least end as of now)

Sounds like you have had a fantastic start - have a great vacation and thanks for sharing your first impressions! :thumbsup2

Don't you just love showing off BC & BCV to people that have never been there! What accomindations did you book for your party. Have a great time :thumbsup2

Curious about this online check-in process...did you happen to have any room requests like for a particular view of the quiet pool or anything??? I am trying to follow how this process goes before I use it as we have some requests and I wonder if those would be best met if we check-in the old fashioned way??:confused3

Glad everything has run smoothly for you so far!

Hope you all have a great trip. Be sure to tell us all about it when you return :thumbsup2

The only "problem" is that I couldn't use my Disney reward dollars to pay for the DP...(only because I wanted to revel in our 45-second check-!
Ok, I am confused about this. I have plans to use Disney rewards dollars for the DDP. Why couldn't you use them for your DDP?

It sounds like a great start to a wonderful celebration!

Just back from dinner, which was terrific, at Chefs de France...plus we had a view of Illuminations...so cool! It's just so neat to be in the company of four 20 to 22 year olds who are absolutely blown away by their experiences so far...I'm just loving it. The kids went on to Magic Kingdom at night...I got up at 3:30 this morning; it's 10:15 p.m. now...not even to see their faces could I dredge up the energy to go w/them!

OK...answers to questions: we have a one-bedroom; I booked way late (it took til mid-january before the kids would/could commit to the trip), so I "piece-mealed" the reservation...started at OKW and as W/Ls came through we wound up w/a one BR for all 5 nights...but never got even one night in the extra studio I wanted...so I've booked us a "spillover room" at the Dolphin--we get that tomorrow...we have one more kid joining us tomorrow...5 in the one bedroom is too crowded for my taste; 6 would be impossible (not to mention illegal!)...so I will sleep over at the Dolphin (but will hang out at BCV w/the kids during the waking hours we're here anyway)...my DS and his GF may move over there to sleep, too...or they may not; we'll play that by ear...

I'd requested ground floor (figured we needed as much access to the outside as possible w/5 adults in this space!...we have two patio doors by which we can leave and the "real door"...it's perfect for our needs)...that was the only request I made...our villa is at the end of a long-ish corridor, facing the pool (the Dunes Cove/quiet pool)...we're very pleased...I didn't see a place to make a room location request when I did online check-in (saw only that I could ask for a pack 'n play and one other thing, I forget what)...but I'd made our request via a phone call to MS...

I certainly could have used my disney reward card to pay (part of) the DP...but they'd already put the charge on my credit card and I just didn't feel like taking the time to redo it...I was too blown away by the literally 45 seconds it took to be ready to head to our villa...so, I used up some of it for the tip to the waiter (who was excellent!) at Chefs tonight...five people eating at a restaurant like Chefs means the disney rewards dollars will be gone by Tuesday! So it's working out just fine..Disney also put charging privileges on all 5 room keys and had I checked in normally I probably wouldn't have done that...but I do trust these kids so I'm sure it'll be fine...might even come in handy as I can now "send" one or more of them to get stuff (snacks or whatever) that I would pay for...

Oh, I had also put in under "celebrations" that this was DS' college grad celebration, but that apparently didn't "take"...there was nothing in our welcome folder and no mention has been made of it...no biggie; we're utterly thrilled w/our villa (it's in beautiful shape...still no flat screen tv's here, but I saw them in the BCI rooms (those w/their windows open facing the path we walk to Epcot)...we honestly don't need a button or card or whatever to say congrats to my DS; it would have been fun had it happened, but just not any kind of deal, much less a big deal, that it didn't...

Anyway, we're as happy as we can be w/our villa, w/the way Disney has treated us since we arrived...everything is as perfect as possible...no "fraying at the edges" of the Disney magic as has happened to us (and many other posters) recently-

Tomorrow the plan is to arrive at Animal Kingdom when it opens (Expedition Everest, Dinosaur, the safari and maybe the raft ride are "must's" for this crowd...we also want to see Nemo the Musical (what a fantastic show that is!) but probably won't have time tomorrow)...we have LeCellier reservations at 1 (and our fifth college kid arrives around noon)...I'll check in at the Dolphin somewhere along the line tomorrow, too)...

This is my definition of pure happiness!

Flower & Garden starts Wed...so excited! DS' GF is an ag major and will go crazy over the flower & garden "stuff" at Epcot...can't wait!

love the live trip report -

tell me more about chefs please? There was a report on the restaurant board that Remy was brought out - but for lunch....

cant wait to hear more of your experiences!! AWESOME trip for your kids!! :cool1:

Good morning, everyone...

My kids got back from MK around 2 a.m. (it was open til 11; EMH til 2)...they said it was crowded (w/20 minute waits for the rides...how little do they know!--grin) at first, but emptied a lot at 11 when "regular guests" left...they walked on Buzz, Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Haunted Mansion and Pirates..they're still "glowing" now (i's 7:10 a.m. and we're headed over to AK)...

We got into Chefs yesterday by stopping by around 2:30 and asking if there was anything open...got a reservation (for 5) for 8:50...got back over to Epcot around 7:50 and "on a whim" stopped to see if we could get in early...they said "sure"...we waited no more than 10 minutes and were seated...grand!

We (3 of us) got the 3-item prix fixed (DDP) menu...short ribs & pasta, onion soup, profiteroles; mac 'n cheese (made w/gruyere), onion soup & creme brulee...the other two got bouliabaisse (Sp?) and duck...we all shared and each dish was wonderful...

I do believe they serve lunch (the restaurant was full when we stopped to try to get a reservation around 2:30), but we didn't look at the menu or eat it...and don't know who the chef(s) is/are...

But it was really wonderful... I also read of "mediocre"--DVC Mike was there a couple of days ago and thought it no better than ok...either he has more refined tastes than we do, or he got a bad night (or we got a good one)...

Off to AK we go; will check in again later...glad you're enjoying our thrills w/us! Dani

Back for naps (college kids need afternoon naps worse than 2-year-olds...but are more willing to take them!) after a wonderful Le Cellier lunch...

Le Cellier is "different"...the food is awesome, but dealing with that restaurant raises issues...our ADR was for 12:50...it was a good 45-50 minutes before we got in...not so horrible, as we've learned to expect that (altho not usually quite that bad)...but the fact that there's no place to wait in any kind of comfort was more noticeable than usual--probably because so many people were waiting, and it was bright hot humid outside...you can't really go anywhere, as you don't know how soon (or not soon) they'll call you...I left wondering if it's really worth it...

Anyway, we did enjoy our lunch and Le Cellier didn't do anything "wrong"...but it was the first "less than magic" experience of our trip...

Checked in at the Dolphin just before noon and have a terrific room over there...balcony overlooks the swimming pool area, and Mickey's Magic Hat and Tower of Terror are in the center of my view...pretty cool! We probably will spend very little time over there...just sleeping time, as "party HQ" is clearly at our BCV one-bedroom...but it's a very nice "spillover" space and sleeping there will be very comfortable...their "heavenly beds" really are superior to the mattresses on the beds/pull out sofas at BCV!

I think I'm going to wander out to the pool...my turn to relax! Still loving this trip! D

Checking in again after some sleep...we went to Epcot this morning...got to the International Gateway just before they opened the park, and headed straight for Soarin'...had a 20-minute wait (it was 65 minutes by the time we got off the ride, still before 9!)...very crowded at Epcot today...DS says it's because today was early EMH there...we came back to BCV around 1...everyone decided to take a 30-minute nap and then swim...I headed back to our "spillover" room in the Dolphin, put on my bathing suit, laid down for 10 minutes...it's now 4:30 and I just woke up about 15 minutes ago...and all the kids but one are still asleep over at BCV...we definitely needed this break!

We have dinner tonight at Morroco and after that, rested as we are now, we'll probably head to MK (open til 11) or to the Studios (open til 10)...or maybe back to the resort to swim...there's also some talk about heading to Downtown Disney...we'll see...

Had a very fun lunch experience...we "ate around the world"...went country to country and got 1 or CS meals at each place that appealed (Mexico, Norway, China & England)...and shared...it was fun...

Oh, have to correct one mistake: turns out Disney did include a celebration button in our welcome packet...but DS saw it first and "headed it off"...he's less inclined to "publicize" the reason for this celebration than I am! I still haven't seen it...but he says it's a button that says "congratulation" and then has "college graduation" sharpied on underneath...very cool, Disney! I'm a happy customer!

The arrival and first 4 days of our five-day trip were great, but things went south the last afternoon/evening/departure morning ...

We spent Thursday morning--til around 12:30 or so--at Animal Kingdom...returned to BCV to nap/swim, rest up for an evening of dinner at Boma and then "closing down" MK...we had 8 table service credits left...enough for dinner and brunch before the last 2 of us left for home Friday morning...we decided on the brunch buffet at the Yacht Club...all was good...we were so happy, having so much fun.

I went back to the Dolphin to our "spill over space" for a nap prior to a swim; the kids went back to our villa...

Half an hour later, my DS called...DVC had canceled our reservation for Thursday night! Oh, no...we'd double-checked that all our reservations (which were for 3/15-3/16; 3/17, 3/18 and 3/19) were linked when we checked in...they were...our room keys said we check out 3/20...I don't understand at all how it happened, but it did...

Called MS--they told me it was my fault because I'd made so many changes to the reservation (I'd pieced the five-day stay together, using the wait list, starting in about mid-January)...this did not make me happy...but they said they'd call the Beach Club front desk--their records showed that I did indeed have a reservation for Thursday night...

In the middle of this, DS called, from the BC front desk...they decided to simply "start over"...they canceled the 3/19 reservation that MS had called to tell them did indeed exist, and issued a new one...in the process, they charged me an extra 30 points and put 30 points in holding...

And, somehow (no clue how), the points charge for 3/18 went from the 30 it was supposed to be to 55...

I called MS back...they said I must not have the "most recent" view on my dvcmember.com/view vacation details site...and again pointed out that the problem occurred because I had made so many changes to get this reservation ... anyway, they said they'd take my points out of holding ... at that point, DS was calling again w/a new problem...

The door lock on our villa was broken...the new keys didn't work... 2 1/2 hours, 3 managers, and two engineers (with 3 master keys that didn't work, each requiring a separate trip to & from the Yacht Club) later, they finally got our door open...

Here's a funny piece to this tale: the CMs (including all 3 managers) were very nice and very apologetic about the broken door lock...one said that housekeeping had noticed it the day before and they'd put in an order to fix it...only it failed completely before anyone got around to fixing it)...anyway, the CM/manager who waited out the 2 hours it took from his arrival to getting into the villa kept apologizing and offered us a free cleaning as a way to make it up to us. I guess you had to be there to realize just how funny that was...five college kids in a villa--it DID need cleaning!!! But we were leaving in less than 12 hours...I declined the offer, but did think it was very nice of the manager to make the offer and it did tickle my funny bone...

I asked if they'd transferred our DP to the new keys and they said yes...by this time it was w/in 15 minutes of when we had to leave for AKL (for our Boma reservation--it was awesome, as it always is)...so we scrambled a bit to clean up some and off we went...

Just before we left, 2 of the kids "disappeared"...turns out they went to talk to the BC managers to see if they could give us something to "console their distraught mother/hostess"...very sweet of them...of course, they had no clue that my upset was over the messed up reservation/points, not the broken door lock (that sort of stuff happens and Disney/BC sure did all they could to fix it)...the BC managers gave my kids 5 "premium fast passes" to make me feel better...that was also very nice of them...the kids used them on Space Mountain after Wishes (MK closed at 10) and that was nice...

At Boma we discovered they had not transferred our DP; instead they just canceled out our old plan and gave us a new one-day plan...bye-bye brunch yesterday morning and I had to pay out of pocket for one of our dinners at Boma...we did get 5 extra CS meals (we'd used up all our CS's on our old plan) and we "evened-out" on the snacks...we'd had five left...I still don't know if they charged me for that extra day...we never got a bill before leaving yesterday morning, and I ran out of time to go to the front desk to get one (see below)...

By this point I was so tired (and still had to face wrangling w/MS over being charged an extra 25 points for one night and the 30 nights still in holding (I'd checked on my laptop and they were still in holding at that point), I just said "who cares" about the DP and let it go. We wound up using the 5 extra CS's yesterday morning (sandwiches for the trip back plus Marketplace b'fast sandwiches) so the financial value was about even...all we really lost was the brunch we'd anticipated over at the Yacht Club.

Then, ME check-in to the airport didn't work...not Disney's fault...a problem w/the connection to our airline...and they did try hard! But it took a couple of hours to get that sorted out and ultimately we had to lug our big heavy suitcase...not the end of the world--but it "went with" the "go south" nature of our last 12 hours! Then, after ME determined they simply couldn't check us in for our flights they took our checked bag back to bell services (where we'd already left our carry-on's while we went to Epcot for a last hour)...when I went back to find out that check-in had failed, I had two Bell Services stubs (one for the checked bag that couldn't be checked; and the other for our carry-on)...it took them almost a half hour to find and bring us our stuff...

Once we got the airport things started going smoothly again...easy "fix" of the bollixed up ME attempt to check us in (we couldn't use the kiosk at the airport as the airline computer showed that we had already checked in...but there was no line to talk to an airline person, who was really nice and efficient (but boy did she grumble about Disney...said they are a disaster to deal with (from the airlines' point of view)...an interesting viewpoint to hear, to be sure)...flight home left on time; arrived on time; luggage came w/us...we're home...

Got home to an email from MS saying everything is now fixed...only it isn't...they've still charged me either 25 or 55 extra points (hard to tell as they continue to show 3/19 twice (separately) at BCV...but they did remove my 30 points from holding...a good first step! And of course nothing on the DP...I don't really expect anything on that...

So, I will never ever again do online check-in! It was fantastic at the beginning, but a nightmare at the end!

It was a "memory-maker" of a trip...as a college graduation celebration it was perfect...lots of fun...really wonderful...now, if only MS will fix my points, I might even be able to laugh about the rotten end to the trip!

Now, back to the real world...

I'm so sorry your last day was full of mix-ups! I hope everything gets resolved-but it sounds like the trip was fantastic for your son and his friends! What a great memory for all of them and what a good mom you are to arrange all of it! :)

Thanks for sharing. I agree that SAB looked fabulous when we were down there and they were not even finished.

Made me realize how badly it did need this rehab and I know so many people were upset with it being closed, but there is no good time to do these rehabs but the wait was worth it, it looked like it did on opening day. :thumbsup2
