I called in to do MMB and buy the 25 points to renew my annual pass. This lady wants me to book a DVC trip. Because we are arriving May 17th on a cash stay, it doesn’t count. Like I don’t know “ 1 time points are for when you are short on points for a planned trip.” If that is the case WHYwoild I buy MMB when I could just buy the points with out MMB? Wth? Did I join yesterday? Or have I not bought them for that reason before? Sorry my little rant…

Anyone know the cast member they dealt with and it worked?

Yes you can buy the OTUP and use for the pass if you have MMB. I have done it myself. Just note that you can only buy 24 OTUP not 25.

First say that you are calling and a MMB member and you want to purchase/renew your pass with points, and then say that you would like to purchase the OTUP to put towards the passes. This is one of the few things that you can buy OTUP points that shouldn't require them to make them for a reservation.

If you just start out asking to buy OTUP they will ask to make a reservation with them as that is the normal process for OTUP

I did that! I wonder if she was new or has a problem with doing that?
I said “I need to buy the MMB, buy the points and I want to use those plus my own to renew my annual pass.”
Should I buy the MMB then call back tomorrow and do the points/pass? Or feel out the next cast member on the phone and still try to do it all?

We purchased MMB earlier this year, and absolutely used it to purchase 24 OTUP (actually purchased 12 and got 12 'free') that went directly to renewing our AP. We did not have to make any room reservation for using the points to renew the AP with points. We did both transactions at the same time - the OTUP and then the renewal.

They have been letting MMB members buy the OTU points without using them towards a reservation in order to apply them to a pass but if you get a CM that doesn’t know this - you can hang up and try another CM OR you can find a reservation for 24 points (31+ days in the futre), buy the OTU points for the reservation and turn right around and cancel it and voila - 24 OTU points you can now use towards your pass. I would buy MMB first.

I would call again and talk with a different cast member. What you want to do is legitimate - assuming the other points you want to use to renew the AP are eligible for the transaction.

You can only buy one time use points when you are booking a reservation. Also you can only buy 24 one time use points per use year. With magical beginnings you buy 12 points at $20 and you get 12 free points. If you are wanting to renew your sorcerers pass the cash price is around $904 and using points it's 65 points which is valuing those points at around $14 per point. I believe you can also only use direct points in the use year you purchased magical beginnings to use towards the purchase of an annual pass. They may have an exclusion to being able to use one time use points for the purchase of a pass (I don't know the correct answer to this). You could call member services again and ask if one time use points can be used for an annual pass. If the answer is yes then you can call member services and book a random room for 24 points within the 7 month window within the current use year and then cancel the reservation so you have the points available for the purchase of the pass. Again make sure that one time use points can be used to purchase the pass. We have bought one time use points for a random night and cancelled the reservation so we had the points available at the 7 month window to book the cabins at Fort Wilderness. I don't believe the cast member you talked to was in error by not allowing you to buy the points to directly purchase the pass.

Due respect, but this is not true. You can buy OTUP to purchase or renew an AP, and you do not have to make any room reservations to do it. I am MMB and I just did this transaction less than a month ago. It's a very simple phone call for 2 transactions - purchase the 24 points and purchase/renew the AP on points. I added 41 of our own points to the 24 to renew the AP. I never made a room reservation....... The OTUP can be used directly for the AP......
