Just an idea about DVD

I love movies, I love home theatre, I love DVDs.

I love DVDs so much I own more titles than "mom and pop" DVD rental stores.

There are two things I really hate about DVDs, though:

1. I can't just play the movie. Usually after popping in the DVD, I have to wait until the FBI Warning is over, studio logo, then wait for the animated menu to stop moving. Select the sound, select the appropriate subtitle (if applicable), then press play. Then you have to watch more studio logos, sound-system promo (DTS, Dolby Digital, THX trailers, Rating-board warning, then... finally... the movie. What a waste of time and disc space.

2. They are too fragile for my taste.

To overcome this problem, I copy every title that I'm going to let my daughter watch (this includes all of our Disney DVD).

Strip them all from their logos etc and keep just the movie (in widescreen, of course), one English Dolby Digital soundtrack and English Subtitle.

This way, most movies will fit into one disc without the need of recompression, my daughter can just open the disc tray, put the disc in, and the movie plays by itself without further button press.

This way, I can let her watch Disney's in-vault DVD titles without being afraid in damaging the disc (such as Treasures collections).

Just an idea.

I never hit "Play", I hit "Scene Selection", then choose "Chapter 1" or "Scene 1" and that's the very beginning of the movie, and it bypasses the studio logos and other "junk".

We love DVDs too! :sunny: I'm sure we don't have as many as it sounds like you have, but we have about 125 movies in this format.

junk??? The THX screens are my favorite :smooth: :smooth:

I think it's a great idea, actually did it with some VHS movies as well. I am also planning on putting some of my VHS (not yet available on DVD) titles onto DVD too.

Tee hee! There is a time and place for everything. I love THX trailers too. I even own THX demo DVDs, DTS demo DVDs and Dolby Digital demo DVDs too!

I also love the THX screen. DD usually hides under a blanket until that part it over though.
