I'm probably going to stir a lot of ill feelings here, but I just had to say something. I've been lurking here for a while and finally decided to post. I've been reading some recent posts about the crowds and had a thought. I see that some of you go to Disney 2 or 3 times a year every year. Have you ever thought that you are contributing to these crowds? I, myself am a Disney lover but, there are other places in the world to see besides Disney. You make it harder for the rest of us who go every couple of years. I don't want this to come out the wrong way, but I feel some of you are a little obssessed. I was just there and I couldn't believe the number of middle aged people standing in lines for character autographs with no children of their own. I even saw a couple run in a panic to get Tiggers auto. and get on line first. I was shocked. People actually sat 2 HOURS ahead of time around Main St. and the Castle to watch Spectrmagic, while kids got shunned back to the edge of the crowds and had trouble viewing Spectromagic on a Sat. night. I saw a boy get blasted on side of his leg by one of those ride on scooters by an older woman not paying attention. Those scooters cause a lot of the congestion on the streets through Disney. I know we're all kids at heart but I thought Disney was for the kids. I even had a man get annoid at me in Epcot when I took my daughters picture in front of a topiary when I thought he was done taking a picture of his Wife and NO children in front of it. Apparently, he needed one without her in front of it too, while us and another Family waited for him. Rude.

So adults who don't have children are not supposed to go to WDW and have fun? We are not supposed to get into the spirit and magic of Disney? We should just be shipped off to some boring, old, out of the way, isolated destination to make room for the poor unfortunate souls who don't have the opportunity to go to WDW as much? Please give me a break.

My husband and I are fortunate enough to be blessed with the opportunity to go to WDW once a year. We don't have children. We love meeting the characters, watching the parades, and riding the rides as much (or sometimes more than) as anyone. So we should not go to our favorite place in the entire world to "cut down on the crowds" for someone like you who obviously doesn't understand the Disney magic. I think not! It is our prerogative to go as much as we want, wait in line for parades as long as we want, get as many character autographs as we want... we pay the same money as you and everyone one else!

Funny....
I just happened to go multiple times this year (no kids, and was there for special events on 3 visits), and if anything, it made me LESS likely to wait to see a character, and more laid back about the parades, etc. Sure, if I want to see a parade really close, I'll park myself on the curb, but anyone can do that if they want to see it badly. It's my feeling that when you go multiple times, you end up not so much in that "commando" mode.

Amen!! When we used to make one big trip a year, we would come back exhausted because of making sure we got everything in.

We're blessed enough to live close, and we're going in two weeks for the 6th time this year. We're literally going just for the Christmas decorations. Since the kids won't be with us on this trip, I don't see us even doing the rides - and not because I don't think they are for adults, but because I've ridden Splash Mountain in excess of 10 times this year - I can do without it on this trip. Believe me, I'd be right up there with all the kids (big and little) had I not!

I'd much rather do lots of small trips during the year. It's so much more relaxing - if we miss something - big deal - we'll catch it in a couple of months. Not a good spot for the parade - next time!
The one thing I will not miss everytime is Wishes! - makes me tear up everytime - who says Disney is just for kids!!

OP, I hope you have your asbestos underwear on. I don't think you understand the spirit or intent of DW. I go (sometimes multiple times a year) with and with out my children. I love the trips I take with them and relish the ones without them also. I still watch the parades and I still get character autos when I don't have the kids with me. Are you serious in thinking that DW is just for kids?

My, my, my! Our children are grown and DH and I relish our time at WDW in Feb, Easter, June, August and in December. I honestly can't believe the OP is serious!

Let me tell you this. We just spent a bundle a few years ago buying into DVC. We couldn't afford it when the kids were young. I am sorry that the OP can't go as often as us CHILDREN FREE kids can go, but guess what? When OUR kids were small we only went every 3 - 4 years!

It amazes me to see how much tunnel vision exists in the world today!

The day they make WDW for FAMILIES only, Disney can buy back my DVC points!

And since we bought from Disney at their asking price, they should buy back from us at OUR asking price

Seriously, you have to wonder if these people have such a lack of business sense that they think Disney could remain profitable without regularly returning visitors or the folks that travel without younguns in tow.

Just to give you a clue. In 2004 I have been to WDW several times. I have also been to London, Paris, Normandy, Zurich and Constance Germany. So.. yes there are other places to go and we do go there also.

Sorry we are messing with your life, but you can go to those other places also if Disney is too crowded.

(Someday your children will be gone and you will have to have fun without them too... you might also be older and need a scooter.)

I happen to agree that WDW is for kids, and we will be taking our DS(12) for Christmas. The thing is, he'll be obediently going along with his mother (me), who asked for the trip as my Christmas gift. He couldn't care less about WDW, except for the good meals & a few things like DQ, etc. IMHO, WDW is better suited for the kid at heart, not just kids. If you don't go with the right frame of mind, then you're really going to miss out on the magic.

By the way, that scooter comment had a familar ring to it.

R U serious??????????? I am going in 4 days with DH and leaving the kids at home this time. (Just took them for halloween) I don't know about anyone else, but I feel like a kid at heart all the time!!! And as far as getting autographs, maybe they were getting them for a child...unless you know a situation, you really shouldn't judge other people.

BTW, here is a flame-proof jacket...you are going to need it!!!!!!!!!!

And you obviously do not understand the spirit of Disney. Walt intended this place to be for children of all ages. Perhaps you should read his many quotes regarding the reason he created Disney. It had nothing to do with getting rich quick.

Again, Disney is for everybody. I only go every few years, but the crowds are just part of it. If you really understood what Disney was all about, you would realize that once people arrive and see that sign, something happens on the inside, you revert to childhood days, your emotions soar and having fun is all that matters.

That was just sheer rudeness on that woman's part. Yes, there are a lot of annoying and rude people in WDW with those scooters, but there are a lot of rude people without them.

Wrong and shame on you. Disney is for everybody. That is like saying adults should only go to Italy or Greece without their children because they are known as a romantic vacation spots.

We all have people that get annoyed with us in WDW and we all get annoyed with other people while we are there. It is called impatience and human nature. I truly think that perhaps you should think of all of the people you annoyed while you were there because of your attitude. After I read your post, I thought, 'this person thinks the whole world revolves around him', I do not think you have any room to complain. It is a publc place that will always have swarms of people. Get over it.

Hey I don't hear the poor hurricane troubled people of Florida complaining we are there all the time! They love us! Yeah we are obsessed and since when did loving something as wonderful and magical as Disney get to be a bad thing? I see our mulitiple trips to Disney as a way to connect with my husband and kids. Also, after years of my husband and his father having absolutely nothing in common guess what happened? Father in law moved to Southern Cal., and does Disneyland with us and has a ball. Now we have a lot of priceless memories with someone we love who is ill and probably not long for this world. You got it right that a lot of people were gonna be irritated by this, sorry if we come across defensive but you make us sound like a bunch of overgrown kids who don't know how to live our lives like adults!

I LOVE Disney! On my last trip I went just with my mom, no kids, we had a GREAT time! This time the kids are going, but I wouldn't hesitate to go back again kidless. I even go to Disney movies by myself sometimes too! Theatres showing Disney movies can get pretty crowded too though, maybe they should make those for kids only too eh?

There are MANY things people love and go to multiple times that I don't understand, but I certainly don't critize them for it.

NASCAR is a good example....NO OFFENSE to Nascar fans, but I don't get it.....Do I CARE if someone goes to every race though? Uh, nope, not in the least!

I guess you could say I'm a little Disney obsessed, but I don't go to WDW multiple times in a year...or even every year (I wish!) but I sure am not upset but those who do. I may jealous if you go 3 times a year, but that's about it! Gimme a break!

I love the Disney slogan "Where Magic Lives" ... notice it isn't "Where Magic Lives for Children Under the Age of 12?"
