Just a small rant...

I've got one. It's dining, not dinning. Also, it is 'Ohana, not O'hana. It is not an Irish establishment. Sorry, that last one drives me nuts.

THANK YOU! I was starting to wonder if Disney had something new I missed...I knew about the free dining, but "free dinning" posts have been rampant lately. :teeth:

By the way, it's "grammar" not "grammer". ;)

SEE thanks John I even knew that one and still did it wrong.

I'm laughing at this one. . . I get that way too when reading misspellings. (and I have to second the "dinning" one - that's one of my pet peeves) Some I overlook because I know what it's like to have your brain and your fingers moving at two different speeds, but some just grate.

This is semi-related, but it reminds me of when I did my CP a few years ago and one of the trainers in Merchandise used to pick up extra shifts in our area (because we rocked and everyone wanted to hang out with us, LOL) Her biggest pet peeve from guests were people who said "queue line" - she'd go on a mini rant telling anyone who'd listen about how all she wants to do is grab them, shake them, and ask them if they realize they're essentially asking where the line line is. :rotfl2:

My sister would LOVE this thread. She's a high school English teacher and is a stickler about grammar and spelling. While I endeavor to use proper English, I was an engineering major, where speeling is not a requirement. ;)

This thread is hilarious......my mom would get a kick out of it....she's not an English teacher...but she should be!

We always get corrected when we say "where are you at?" mom's famous response...."BEHIND THE 'AT' ON PREPOSITION STREET!!!!!!!" :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

I know I'm guilty of typing too fast, so I try not to harp on other people's mistakes. I mean, this is after all, informal writing at it's most informal. I'm constantly typing one letter ahead of the next, like hte for the...

But there are a few that get me sometimes: to/too, and -'s usage.

Why do the terms "back up" and '"back down" mean something that is not the opposite of the other term? Why do "flammable" and "inflammable" mean the same thing? If the word "center" means a central point, how is it possible to "center around" something? Why do people say "irregardless" when they mean "regardless"? What would chairs look like if our knees bent backwards?

These are the burning issues that keep me up at night. :scratchin

That place people are lining up so they can ride - it's a queue, not a cue. If you don't know what a queue is - try saying "line". You stand *in* a queue, you deliver your lines *on* cue. Unless you're trying to play some sort of alphabet twister - you aren't "standing on q waiting to ride Mt Everrest"

Sorry - I couldn't resist chiming in.

Wdwrich, I hope you're prepared to be flamed! :firefight Someone's going to say you're mean and petty for picking on people for spelling errors.

(Oh, and it's "ridiculous" not "rediculous.") :teeth:

sorry, the ridiculous was me...if you're referring to the thread with that word in it :guilty:

Of course, you could be an actor waiting to be assigned props for an upcoming scene about a billiards game, in which case you'd be queuing for a cue before your cue.

There, their and they're is another bunch of words that can be added to the list.

I like to call'em Sudden Death Infractions, as that's what they were called in school.

Thank you-these were next on my list! I love this thread! Where, we're and wear are also some of my favorites. They run a close second to dinning.

The phrase is 'I couldn't care less', as in 'there is no possible way for me to care less about that topic.' If you say 'I could care less', then you aren't really making much of a point.

When you need money, you go to an ATM, not an ATM machine, which would be an automated teller machine machine.

Likewise, you enter your PIN, not PIN number, which would be a personal identification number number.

Oh these examples are classic!!! :teeth: Thank you for pointing out the "couldn't care less" one!! I honestly thought I had got that one wrong for years because I hear so many people these days say "I *could* care less" (I've even read it in books!). I'm glad I'm not the only one who's irritated by this.

I like this thread - normally I hate when someone's grammar/punctuation is mocked but this is a general thread and not personal, so it's all good (so far!! lol!).

Yes, but if John de Lancie is called upon to stand in line to collect a small amount of money while in Canada's largest province..

Q is queuing on cue for a que in Que. :cool1:

Touche, and well done. :worship: >>>>deep breath<<<<<

If James Bond's boss were prompted to stand in line to receive a pigtail extension and a billiard stick from de Lancie in Quebec . . .

Q would queue for a queue and a cue from Q on cue in Que.

You know what bugs me --- people who make fun of other people’s spelling and grammar mistakes. Especially since many of those mistakes are made by people like myself who have learning disabilities like dyslexia. So sorry our mistakes cause you such grief. If the program for this board had a spell check many of your “peeves” would be eliminated, but it doesn’t, so people have to do the best they can. Its never okay to make fun of someone as far as I’m concerned.

sometimes it takes me a while to post a comment because i am afraid i spelled a work incorrectly-- so what i do is..i highlight the word in my thread response, paste it into word and hit spell check.....

i am a horrible speller! :rolleyes2

Seems to me the tone of this thread is light-hearted (harted?) and self-deprecating with people making fun of themselves, not others. It's okay to laugh at ourselves for silly mistakes. :goodvibes
