Just take each resort report with a grain of salt. Not everyone will have the same experiences. People are also more likely to post when something goes wrong rather then when everything went right.

We also seem to have some folks here that like to post bad reviews of a resort to take the focus off another bad resort report.

If a Disney resort was always getting bad reports you can bet that Disney would do something about it.

Thanks everyone.

Great point. We go a couple of times a year and have stayed at most of the resorts and never had these problems as are sometimes reported. Not saying the reports might not be true, but everyone needs to relaize they are an extremely small percentage of the total number of people who stay at Disney and also someone's personal opinion of their experience and everyone is different.

I think they would feel better if they complainted to Disney instead of here.

if you have a problem with the room, housekeeping, front desk, maintence - then please call the manager while you are at the hotel.

he/she can sometimes fix the problem.

but no one can fix something they don't know is wrong.

This is so true. You've inspired me to write a review on our positive experience. We just returned from our vacation and everything was just great. I remember reading horror stories before our trip and stressing over things that might possibly go wrong.

I totally agree!!! I use the info as a guideline and for information about the resort, but no ONE resort anywhere on the planet will get all positive reviews all the time. Thanks for the reminder:)

Very true! I once read a report in which someone totally trashed the Poly. and the sole complaint was that it doesn't have a hot tub. Guess that was important to them, but as for us, YUCK, ICK, GROSS, I am happy to not have my children, DH, and me sit in some big humany-soup with strangers. But then again, maybe lots of negative Poly. reports will drive the high cost down (yeah, right, then I'd be writing them all the time). Do wish it wasn't so $$$, but it's our one splurge.

:thumbsup2 So true, Safetymom!

Resorts, do, to change! What you experienced may have changed since your visit 12 or 2 years ago!

Also, one size does not "fit all". Your fav resort may not be the right choice for a different family. I can think of a few posters that always recommend "their fav" resort rather than listening to the needs/requests of the person asking the question.;)

If everyone posts about their own personal experiences, good or bad, and not what they've "heard", other disers will be able to make more informed choices.:upsidedow

Not only that, we seem to have some posters who like to critique resorts even when they have not stayed at that particular resort.

I am somewhat naive and didn't really notice until recently that some posters seem to have personal agendas when it comes to resorts - either promoting their favourite even when not appropriate, or even discouraging people from staying at a resort in favour of their own personal favourite.

We all make decisions for a personal reason. There is no one 'right' or 'wrong' choice, but a choice based on emotional as well as financial needs. A particular resort may appeal to one person but not another, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Choose wisely, but don't question your decision based on reports here or other websites.

If I have a good trip I write the hotel or resort and corporate headquarters. If I have troubles at a hotel I make sure to see the front desk so they have a chance to make it right while I am there. Then I follow up with a letter to corporate headquarters.

Thank you for this post. In all of the years I've been here, I've always kind of rolled my eyes whenever the immediate response to someone's "negative" post about a resort is something like, "Oh no! Now you have me worried!" -or- "Your story has me thinking about changing resorts!" :confused3

Get a grip people!

well said Safetymom - I personally think that if you are going to let some shortcomings at a resort really affect your overall experience, then you are unlikely to ever be satisfied. It takes an effort, but you can force yourself to get past a problem and have fun anyways, especially at the Happiest Place on Earth. Most of the negative posts I read are for issues that we would all be bothered by, but the poster usually cannot get past it and go on to have a great time.

This is so relevant. I just returned from the CR only to read someone "dis" it as dirty and unkempt (or along those lines). My experience could not have been more different but I prefer not to be directly confrontational on the boards. Being flamed burns me up.

I work with several vacation rental companies and it is shocking the number of complaints they receive that were not made before the end of the stay. (These guests typically demand some kind of a refund for some minor indignity that could have been avoided if they had read just the webpage before buying the rental.) I shouldn't be surprised to learn DW is not exempt, either.

I totally agree. I have said it before also....if you have problems with while staying at a resort, let someone there know. How can they fix the problems if you have'nt addressed them to anyone? Just my opinion.

I agree, safetymom. Reviews of any kind should be taken as subjective experiences, especially since so many factors play into one's perception of a place. These perceptions may be based on family dynamics, stressors carried over from everyday life, overly high expectations, or just personal preferences. None of these factors can be accomodated by a resort or its staff.

Thanks everyone.

Look at the resort reviews like Olympic figure diving scores. Throw out the really bad and really good ones, and go with what's left. And you are right, a disproportionate number will complain. You should apply this same strategy to any consumer reviews.

Another thing to consider is how current is the review. If a guest stayed at a particular resort and had a less than pleasant stay 5 years ago then I do not feel that is an accurate reflection of the current situation. At Disney management and staff change constantly and anything that happened years ago is simply old news.

Also I agree with Bavaria, how can someone review a resort they have never stayed at.

I think the most interesting thing I see and particularly concerning the Grand Floridian is the number of people who have no desire to stay there, consider it "stuffy" yet they like to dine there, use the children's programs such as the Pirate Cruise, the Spa and the afternoon tea.

So I would advise everyone do your own research, don't let a heavy negative review sway you and try it for yourself when picking a resort.
