June 22 2012 New York here we come!

Since we're newbies, can you explain the difference between the Lab and the Edge? My oldest just turned 11 and my youngest is 8.

My DS will be 2 months shy of 11. I still haven't decided where to put him! I guess I was thinking of waiting until we get on the ship and check them both out. Does anyone know their proximity to each other? Are they on the same deck? Just down the hall from each other, etc? Just wondering because my dd will be in the lab so I was wondering if I'd be wandering all around the ship to get them settled. Thanks!

The lab is more contained and structured activities inside one room. The Edge is meant for tweens and has a lot of activities that take place out of the "Edge room" such as scavenger hunts, basketball, etc. My understanding from what I've read on the boards is that actually in The Edge is more just hanging around and playing video games, not really activities.

Hello everyone...although this will be our 6th Disney cruise, we are new to DIS and FE. I just wanted to make sure it was not too late to sign up. Also, I accidentally added our family to spreadsheet twice (sorry).
Thank you and have a wonderful cruise!!!

Hello everyone...although this will be our 6th Disney cruise, we are new to DIS and FE. I just wanted to make sure it was not too late to sign up. Also, I accidentally added our family to spreadsheet twice (sorry).
Thank you and have a wonderful cruise!!!

Welcome to the group. I added you to the master list above and the FE list as well.....

Hi this will be our 5th cruise with DCL. Sailing with me is my DW, DS 21 and DD 16. We are from Hamilton Twp in Mercer County NJ.

FE deadline is approching fast and we began shopping for the fish extender gifts. Since it is our first time participating in FE, can anyone give me a ball park figure of the amount per stateroom I should put for the gifts ?

Thanks a lot

:wave2:Hi everyone....we'll be joining you all on the cruise....just booked last week. It'll just be me and my husband this time to see our daughter perform. She is Anne Marie in the Disney Dreams show and Drizella in the Twice Charmed show, she's in the other two shows also but just in the ensemble; this is her second tour with Disney Cruise Line in these roles.

She just got us booked last week and we are sooooo excited. Last year we cruised to the Western Caribbean on a seven night cruise out of Port Canaveral - it was our first cruise and we loved it! We sailed with eight other family members (all kids at heart) but this time it will just be me and my husband and we're looking forward to a relaxing tour. If anybody has any questions, I have the inside scoop since my daughter lives on the ship. Counting the days to see our daughter and cruise again (haven't seen her since Christmas).

If you've never cruised with Disney before, you're in for a magical adventure!!

We are sooooo proud of our daughter!!!!!! To see her on the Disney stage the first time was just "magical."

If you're asking about a movie, I'm not sure but I will ask my daughter.

For the stage shows, the first night will be the Welcome Aboard Show, formal night is always Twice Charmed (my daughter is Drizella, the short stepsister) so I'm assuming it will be the same for this cruise. Then there's Villains Tonight. They are also doing a new show that they are only doing on the 8 night cruises (I don't know the name of it). Disney Dreams (my daughter is Anne Marie in this one), and then the Farewell show the last night (she'll be Anne Marie again). One of the nights should be Pirate night but I'm not sure which night.

The Magic is leaving Port Canaveral on Tuesday to travel to NYC, they have their first Nassau/Castaway Cay/Disney World cruise on May 25th. After that first tour, I'll better know which night each show is from her. She lives in NYC and is so incredibly excited to sail past the Statue of Liberty upon their way to the port.

Booked our flights today so now it seems official. They also assigned our room today. When our daughter first booked the cruise, it just said we were going to have a Category 5B verandah room so I was excited but now they've downgraded us to a Category 7A room with the Navigator's Verandah and it's a connecting room (I always thought those went fast but guess not for this trip). I called Disney Cruise today to find out why and they said they can change our room because we're traveling on "space available." Oh well, can't complain, we got an incredibly great price because our daughter works on the ship.

Counting down the days til we cruise, just sad we left all of our pirate gear with our daughter from our last cruise to share with others, now we have to go buy more stuff!!!pirate:

I was thinking about stage show. Thanks for the great info. Dont worry, I was in a navigator's verandah stateroom once, and it is nice. For this trip, we are travelling on DVC points, and all we could afford was an inside stateroom...

Welcome aboard! :wave2: How awesome for you and your DH :) This is our 7th DCL cruise, and my kids love the shows-they know all about Anne Marie on Disney Dreams too :) Does she get to be a character or princess during character meet and greets too?

on our Alaska DCL cruise last summer we (my DDs and I) took the "Dance Class" to learn some of the steps to the show that has the Tarzan dance. It was a lot of fun! Really special to interact with the "cast"

So exciting for you! I bet you are bursting with pride!

I'm so jealous that this will be your 7th DCL cruise. If it wasn't for our daughter performing for DCL, we probably would have never gone on a cruise, it wasn't on my husband's list of things to do but he loved it and is excited about going again.

My daughter is not a character or princess at the meet and greets. If your kids are interested in getting Anne Marie's autograph they can get it the last night of the cruise after all the characters come down the steps and before the "Farewell, See You Real Soon" song in the atrium. Someone taped that song with my daughter in it during her last DCL tour and it's on YouTube. She's at the bottom of the right-hand staircase between Minnie and Peter Pan. It won't let me post the link because it says I must have 10 posts or greater to post a link; but, if you go to YouTube and search for "Goodbye at the Atrium Aboard Disney Magic" it will take you to the video.

She's counting the hours now until they leave for NYC tomorrow.....the whole cast is sooooo excited and me, too, because that means it's getting closer to us seeing her.

you must be so excited! I love both of those shows. Is the other show Villains tonight? It had been on the Magic, but would love to see a new show. where in PA are you from?

They will be doing Villains Tonight and a new show called The Dream Goes On. They'll have the Welcome Aboard and Farewell shows also. As the time gets closer, she'll be able to tell me what movie they'll be playing in the theater.

We live about 15 miles southeast of Pittsburgh in a small town called White Oak. Are you from PA Beth? I saw a MaryBeth on the Facebook page from Clairton, is that you? I haven't been accepted yet on the Facebook page, not sure why.

so excited to see a show. My parents will be too. I am a huge disney fan so will watch them over and over. Villains is not my favorite though and Toy Story on the Wonder I will never watch again, but after 15 cruises I still enjoy the others.
Mary Beth is my sister in law. We live in Baldwin. We are driving to Wilkes- Barre where my parents live the night before and going up to NYC early the day of. I hae been to an animal shelter in White Oak so I know where it is. Where did your daughter go to school?
I imagine the movie will be Brave since it is coming out on the 22 or 23.
Have you cruised often snce she has worked for DCL?

Villains is not my favorite either. I just think that Disney Dreams is magical (and not just because my daughter is the lead), kids seem to love that show the best because it's in true Disney style with all the characters.

Ah, Baldwin is not that far, been there many times. I have to assume that you've been to our White Oak Safe Haven animal shelter, we live about 3 minutes from there by White Oak Park.

Our daughter went to high school at McKeesport Area High School and graduated from Point Park University with a dual degree in Musical Theatre and Dance. She has been dancing since the age of 3 and started taking voice lessons in 8th grade; we found a voice we didn't know was there.

The stage is her life and we have traveled many places watching her perform. To quote my daughter, "If I was performing in the middle of the desert on a soapbox, my mom would be there to watch me." To watch her first perform on the Disney stage was just "magical" for us to watch.

This is only our 2nd cruise with Disney. We went once during her last tour, her last tour was October 2010 through April 2011 so it was hard for me to get off work since I work for our school district; this time she has a summer tour so it's a lot easier since I have the summer off. We'd like to do another cruise before her contract is over in December but we haven't planned anything yet.

I think you're right about the movie. "Brave" comes out the day we board the ship so I'm sure they'll be showing that.
