June 2017 Disneyland Check In!!!

We're renting a car to drive from NC to DLR. We've gotten to where we almost always rent a car for our trips. Yes, it's an expense, but for that expense you get an almost new car to drive. You're not putting the miles on your car (to include tire wear, oil changes and just general mileage that's not added to your vehicle). In addition, know that anything from a blown tire to other car issues is the rental's problem to take care of is real peace of mind. In our case (we have a truck too) we get some savings in gas with the rental getting better mpg than our truck. I'd assume the same would be the same for the minivan for you.

Thats what I keep telling myself too. No wear and tear on our brand new truck. No car issues to worry about. I see you've got a very long drive! You are very brave. I think my limit is 8 hours.

Current rumor for maxpass is June 1st.
According to another thread wi-fi is now in both parks.

I think I need to research this Maxpass. I originally didn't consider it but now I'm thinking it might be really great for our DCA day because there are so many fastpass rides we want to be able to do. Does it just save you walking across the park to get the fastpass or can you schedule all your fast passes for the day?

I posted this in the solo travelers section but might as well post here too. I have a reservation for 2 for the Main Street Electric Parade Blue Bayou Dining package on Monday 19 June. The system wouldn't let me book for 1 so I booked for 2. I was just planning on cancelling the second person when I got there but now Im wondering if any solo would like to join me? As its just a reservation and not pre paid, we can just ask the server to split the check.

The foolishness runs deep in my blood. My family has always traveled by car. About the only time I fly is if we're crossing an ocean or if work is paying. We've done the trip from NC to Vegas twice now and once to Arizona (It's what we do when our kids move across the country). I also road my motorcycle from NC to SD for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally last summer. Tacking on the drive from Vegas to Anaheim will (hopefully) be a minimal addition to this trip.

Good luck with your trip and your decision. I've often mulled over the decision to rent a car versus driving one of ours, but I've never regretted renting a car for a trip. Well once I sort of did, when I got a car that smelled of smoke, had nasty dirty windows and terribly old wipers. We were in a hurry, so we stopped at Walmart for a box of window wipes and a can of Febreeze to clean up the car, then bought wipers. When I took the receipts to the rental place and explained the situration, we ended up with them refunding our entire rental fee which was way more than I expected, so I was back to not regretting renting that car. The rest of the cars we've rented have been very nice, very clean cars.

We are leaving next Saturday and driving 13 hrs to Anaheim, there will be 6 of us. Hubby and I, our 17 yr old son, 11 yr old daughter, 2 yr old daughter and my mom. I am so excited and ready for this vacation. We are going to do Hollywood on Sunday and I have a reservation for goofys kitchen Sunday night. I thought that would be a good way to kick of our Disney vacation!! We are going to Disneyland on Monday the 5th. I have reservations for hubby and I at blue buyou for lunch, that day will be our 17 year wedding anniversary!! I really want to stay in the park until it closes but I think we will take the baby back to the motel for a nap after lunch then head back to the park and stay until closing. We are going to a beach on Tuesday, don't know which one yet. Knotts berry farm on wednesday and California adventure on Thursday then head back home to Idaho on Friday. If anyone has any recommendations on a beach area to go to on Tuesday that would be awesome because in at a loss on where to go lol. Thanks

Well I'm not sure until it starts but from what I read I am thinking ....

Enter park and walk for the first ride you want, open the max pass app and choose 1St fp for the day. Ride the ride then either go 2 a second ride or fp ride depending on time. As soon as you either ride the fp ride or 2 hours expire choose another fp from the max pass app.

I hated running for a SM fp at EMH/MM knowing the line for Matterhorn was building up.

Oh, really? I was just assuming they'd announce it ahead of time like new attractions/foods, etc. I hope it is

You might want to do California Adventure on Wednesday and Knotts on thursday. Wednesday's are just a tad bit less crowded which will make a big difference at CA adventure - not so much at Knotts (we have annual passes for both). Have fun!!! One more thing - get to knotts front gates at least 1/2 hour before opening (we get there a hour early and have Starbucks next to the entrance for breakfast) and ride Storm Rider twice! (The wooden coaster). There will be no wait and it will easily be 2 hours for the rest of the day. We think it is one of the best and scariest coasters we have ever been on.

I think you mean ghost rider. It is the wooden coaster that was just refurbished earlier this year. And i agree it is the best wooden coaster in california.

I saw that too. Our dates are the 12th-14th. I wanted to see it but I guess it makes it easier for us to not have to devote 2 hours to see the show with only 1 day in DCA.

I guess if one major DCA attraction had to be down during my visit, i would choose Frozen, but I'm still disappointed. My DD11 will likely
be thrilled. She was a huge Frozen fanatic when it first came out in 2013, but has since done a complete 180. I definitely would have had to do some persuasive talking and/or bribing to get her to go see the show. I'm not sure I'll fair much better with DH when we go at the end of the month (assuming it's actually back up and running by then).

I was planning on doing CA adventure on Wednesday but that's a grad night and an EMH morning. I read on grad nights they start trying to get the public out at 9 so the park is cleared out and only grads in by 10. I didn't want to miss that extra hour in the morning and then deal with the grads at night so Thursday seemed like a better day lol.

I'm going to make an effort on this trip to watch the flag retreat ceremony at Disneyland at least one time. I've heard about it and read about it, but never have seen it in person. My wife and I did this for the first time a few years and and a few trips ago. It has become so important to us that we are actually canceling our Blue Bayou reservations for the 21st because it will interfere with us getting to be at the flag retreat and we only have the one night in the parks this trip.

I HIGHLY recommend everyone go at least once. It is a charming and moving ceremony.

I am waiting as well. Last time I bought them on the app and all I had to do was go right to the gate at EMH morning. They asked for our ID then gave us our carded ticket, easy peasy!

Since I can get a refund on my air and hotel (5days prior) I am just waiting in case of emergencies.

I'm lazy on vacation. I like knowing what I am doing vs trying something new

Can someone going before June 11 give an update on the situation with waiting for nighttime entertainment at Disneyland? I read that people are not allowed to stake out spots on the sidewalk anymore, but I'm wondering how much this is enforced and when we'll need to get there to get a good curbside spot for MSEP. We were there right after it opened earlier this year and people were lined up super early (4PM). I'm hoping we can avoid that this time without having to buy one of the dining packages. Thanks!
