June 2012 Car Rental Discounts/Codes

I got a 12 day rental May 28- June 9 from MCO to FLL with Alamo for 145.00 total. I used the Costco code and coupon. I have booked and rebooked so many rental in the last few weeks. The prices keep getting better. I hope I remember to cancel everything I dont need.
I also booked the same deal for my daughter and her husband. They will have to join Costco if I can't find a similiar deal for them using an alternative code.

Can I ask what level of car you got? I just booked with alamo today for May31st -June 10th (9 days 18 hours) and got a Standard level (ford fusion) for $159.04 total. Now I am willing to waive any additional insurance since I spoke to my provider today and was told I have enough coverage. I think I saw online that there was some sort of discount for prepaying? I'll wait until closer to the day we leave to prepay. Just wondering if I got a good deal. I checked with National and for the same exact car they are asking $366.19!:laughing:

My dates are June 23rd to July 1st. Got a deal for the 8 nights with dollar /thrifty for $141 tax included for standard size car. Full size is a little more at $164. Book direct at their web site, instead of Priceline.
Alamo was way way too much even with discount codes.

I just tried and it is $267 now and it was $145 yesterday (Dollar for a week) Did you have a discount code to get that rate?

No discount code was available. This price was available all weekend and also at the time I had post my original quote. The price has gone up again, but closer to the date I'm sure good offers will be available.

In reading the last few pages of this thread, I saw that some of you were using a Visa coupon to get a good rate. Where did you find that coupon? Did it come with your Visa bill in the mail? I have the Disney Visa and the Southwest Airlines Visa, and I'm wondering if I missed it. :confused3

I don't even get bills anymore, so it wasn't an insert. Here's where I found it: Visa Website

ETA: The actual code doesn't do much more than the regular Insider's code. However, the coupon for $30 off is a good one.

I booked a Corolla, using the Costco discount. It seats 5. My daughter also booked the same type car using the Insider Code and an American Airlines coupon. She is paying 17.00 more but using this code she wont have to join Costco. Costco and the Insider offers a 2nd driver for free. The Corolla is smaller than we usually rent but I couldnt pass up the rate. I figure we wont be in the car very much so it should work fine.

That sounds great! Yes the fusion is smaller than what we usually drive but it's big enough for driving around the parks. The real trick is going to be squeezing in the luggage, carry-ons and stroller! It's only a short trip to Bonnet Creek....i'm sure no one will mind a suitcase under their feet and on their lap:rotfl:

One thing I read on Mousesavers is that if you use the prepay option at alamo to get an additional 10% off it negates to free additional driver. I'll just pay when we get there. I plan on keeping watch and seeing if I can get that rate down even lower....fingers crossed!

Question in regards to Alamo Insiders Club. I am reading on this thread about adding the second driver for free. Last October, I also rented from Alamo and when I told the rep. at the Alamo desk I was adding my friend as a second driver they wanted to charge me extra. I told him that was not the case and that's why I had chosen to rent from Alamo versus Alamo. He went to speak with a manager and said they were making a one time exception for me.:confused3

This year we will also found a great rate with Alamo and want to make sure we can add the second driver to the contract without any extra fees.

Direct from the Alamo website:

Any additional driver (including a spouse or domestic partner) will pay a daily fee of approximately $10 per day.

Fees are waived for additional drivers who are:

Members of Alamo Insiders Program; which allows for one additional driver to be added at no cost.
Corporate Contracts in the United States are allowed the following additional drivers at no charge:
· Commercial (corporate) rentals

· The renter's business partner

· Employer or fellow associate, who has a signed corporate contract with Alamo and drives the car for business purposes and who meet normal renter requirements.

All other additional authorized driver situations are subject to a daily charge.

An additional driver may only be added to the contract at a rental location and may be added or removed in the middle of the contract. When adding an additional driver in the middle of the contract both the renter and the additional driver must be present at the location.
The system will calculate the charges based on the dates the additional driver was listed on the rental.

It does not say it has to be a spouse.. it appears anyone can be the additional driver as long as you are an Insiders member and they meet the requirements.

Thank you..I am going to print out the info just in case we have an issue with the additional driver.

Did you enter a corp code other than the Alamo Insider's which is 7015135? If you use this corp code, then it will show on the confirmation as "(1) Additional Driver Included". If you enter your Insider number and no corp code, this one gets added by default.

My guess is that you used another corp code, likely to get a discount, and that's why you had trouble. It's not clear to me whether you must use the Insider corp code to get the free additional driver benefit, but I personally wouldn't bother risking it. I get the best price using that code anyway! :thumbsup2

I looked this up when booking and the free additional driver must be a spouse, domestic partner, or reside at the same address.

I have a Intermediate SUV booked through Budget for $347.49 (6/9-6/19). This past Saturday I got a great rate through Alamo on a Full Size for $168.65. I'm concernced that I won't have enough room with the Full Size through Alamo. I have five smaller suitcases. (16x24) Do you think I will have enough trunk space with the Full Size or should I stick with the Intermediate SUV? I can only hope that Alamo may have a mini van in the full size section. It's quite a bit of money that I would save going with Alamo if the suitcase situation would work out. What are your thoughts?

Take an Impala. Biggest trunk of the cars. Probably more room than the SUV.

Does my spouse have to be an Alamo Insiders member if added as an additional driver? If that part has been clarified, I missed it somewhere. I need to know this so I can have my DH join if he has to be an Insiders member, too.

Also, does that mean I can't fill out the forms online and pick up the keys at the kiosk? In other words, do I have to go through the line at the service desk to add an additional driver or can I do it ahead of time?

Actually, I think what you have copied & pasted does not really apply to most renter's. The bulk of it seems to deal with corporate contracts and most of us are not using a corporate contract ( i.e. renting through an employer). Gmeh1, who posts here and works for Alamo/National at MCO, has made it clear that the free driver included for Alamo Insider's does need to be a spouse or partner living at the same address as the primary driver.
