June 2012 Car Rental Discounts/Codes

"Actually, I think what you have copied & pasted does not really apply to most renter's."

I just copied & pasted ALL that I could find on thier site, that's all they had :). There isn't anything else other than redundant info.

Maybe I missed something somewhere? Yes, our resident Alamo/National Guru Gmeh1 could tell us what everyone needs.

I agree that the website isn't clear. Maybe someone could direct gmeh1 over here? I'm on my phone or I'd do it.

Take an Impala. Biggest trunk of the cars. Probably more room than the SUV.

I agree that the full-size Impala will have much more cargo room than an intermediate SUV! :thumbsup2 And it's cheaper too, so easy decision!

I didn't ask the question, but I sure appreciate the answer! We were thinking of renting a van for the luggage space - this info will make our rental options much cheaper. Thanks!

Is anybody aware of the DVC Car Rental Codes if they are available? Mousesavers.com stated the code was on the DVC Member website, but I couldn't find it. Wound up booking with Alamo through Costco. Saved $35.00 on a 5 day rental as opposed to the rate on Alamo Insiders.

I looked this up when booking and the free additional driver must be a spouse, domestic partner, or reside at the same address.

Not sure where you got this information, but, it is not correct.
From the ALAMO site/help tab under additional drivers:

Any additional driver (including a spouse or domestic partner) will pay a daily fee of approximately $10 per day.

Fees are waived for additional drivers who are:

•Members of Alamo Insiders Program; which allows for one additional driver to be added at no cost.
•Corporate Contracts in the United States are allowed the following additional drivers at no charge:
· Commercial (corporate) rentals

· The renter's business partner

· Employer or fellow associate, who has a signed corporate contract with Alamo and drives the car for business purposes and who meet normal renter requirements.

All other additional authorized driver situations are subject to a daily charge.

•An additional driver may only be added to the contract at a rental location and may be added or removed in the middle of the contract. When adding an additional driver in the middle of the contract both the renter and the additional driver must be present at the location.
•The system will calculate the charges based on the dates the additional driver was listed on the rental.

Does my spouse have to be an Alamo Insiders member if added as an additional driver? If that part has been clarified, I missed it somewhere. I need to know this so I can have my DH join if he has to be an Insiders member, too.

Also, does that mean I can't fill out the forms online and pick up the keys at the kiosk? In other words, do I have to go through the line at the service desk to add an additional driver or can I do it ahead of time?

You don't pick up the keys at the kiosk, you will find the keys in the car in the garage. No, your spouse does not have to be an Insider's member, but, it cannot hurt to have your spouse join, it is free. I thought that part had been well clarified. But, just in case:

You can check in online if you are not using a coupon. You can add the driver at the kiosk where you can check in. He/she will have to be present when you take the car out of the garage and will have to have a valid license. You can also add the additional driver at the exit booth.

Actually, I think what you have copied & pasted does not really apply to most renter's. The bulk of it seems to deal with corporate contracts and most of us are not using a corporate contract ( i.e. renting through an employer). Gmeh1, who posts here and works for Alamo/National at MCO, has made it clear that the free driver included for Alamo Insider's does need to be a spouse or partner living at the same address as the primary driver.

Nice to see that someone reads my posts. LOL Thank you BrerMama! :)

Nope, don't think you missed anything. The policies for additional drivers with ALAMO INSIDERS and the requirements additional drivers with National are different.

With National Emerald Club membership: any family member living in your home, with a clean driver's license, major credit card and a license with the same address can drive a National car without an additional driver's fee being charged to them

With Alamo Insiders: Fees are waived for additional drivers who are:

•Members of Alamo Insiders Program; which allows for one additional driver to be added at no cost.

I am not even going to try to cover the other codes which may allow additional drivers for free except to say the additional driver needs to be present, with a valid license.

Ah, that's where I was getting confused. We had a National reservation earlier, so I was thinking of National's rule for the additional driver... not Alamo, who was discussed here. Sorry for my error!

No apology necessary, it is easy to get confused with some many different agencies and policies.

I am now down to $142.73 total for alamo - full size car, picking & dropping off at TPA, June 1-10. I used my Alamo's insider ID and the American Airlines Advantage coupon which is $35 off. The coupon is AD2359FDF. I started at like $189, and I have cancelled and rebooked about 6 times. Every dollar counts!!!! :)

Yes, we are having to fly in and out of Tampa this year due to airfare! Yikes!!! We have done this before. We will arrive in Tampa at 11:00, and we will head to Downtown Disney to kill a few hours before checking into Old Key West!!! Now I only need to book our hotel in Tampa for the night before we go home. We have an early flight! Alamo has been UP and DOWN. I have the most luck in the morning!!!

Same for me....I've booked and cancelled 5 times. I started booking at $300(previous prices were $700) and now I'm down to $180 for a 13 day rental. I was hoping to be around $250 so now I'm in the bonus zone. I'll keep watching but I really don't feel like it will go much lower.

Today I got a mini van at Dollar june 1-9 for $272. It wasn't with any codes but I clicked on thier city specials.
