June 15, 2012 - 2 Night Getaway on the Disney Magic from NYC!

No kids here. This seems to be a birthday celebration cruise. My boyfriend's birthday is June 20 so we're taking this cruise to celebrate and I think someone else on the thread is celebrating theirs as well. I love sailing past the Statue of Liberty and under the Verrazano. So cool!

Thinking of booking this cruise. Ive heard that the waters of the Atlantic ocean are supposed to be choppy though. Any comments from people who have sailed out of new york? Thanks!

Welcome, Daniel. That's a great B2B, DW has one more week of school so we couldn't book the second leg:sad2:
Love the "Bizarro" of coming FROM Orlando to cruise on the MAGIC. I wonder how many folks will be like you? Now it's back to packing - heading to WDW in the AM,:woohoo:

According to my family, "Bizarro" is my middle name!! :rotfl:

Thanks Minnie!

I've sailed out of NY a few times. I've never found it to be choppy or rough. I'm not prone to motion sickness or anything though so it could be different for other people.

I've sailed out of NY two times. I didn't find the water to be choppy or rough.

Now I'm thinking about getting a cake from Carlo's Bakery in Hoboken. The "Cake Boss" has great cakes. Just went there last night for cupcakes and cookies. Wondering if Disney would let me bring it onboard since the ship will not be visiting any ports.

Hi -

I am thinking of booking this for my 5th anniversary with DH sans children. Any thoughts on what they will do on the cruise???

I know they let you carry alcohol on the ship, as long as it's in a soft cooler and will fit through the xray machine. I know you can't have ice. I'm thinking they would probably let you bring a cake as long as you follow those guidelines. I would call to be sure.

I'm hoping they will at least have the fireworks! It's not a Disney Cruise without fireworks!

Based on postings from the January 2011, LA WONDER 2 night cruise they will probably have some group games (such as "How well do you know your spouse?" ) and Bingo. The salon, spa, fitness center, and pools should be open. There should also be outdoor deck activities including mini golf, shuffleboard, basketball and a jogging track. Palo would be open for dinner and brunch, and they should have various wine tastings offered at an addional cost. Also, there will be a Disney themed musical performed each evening, as well as first run Disney movies during the day and evenings.

The LA cruisers had a very active DIS group. They had a DIS meet the first afternoon on the ship and a Fish Extender group.

Since the cost of our cruise is significantly more money than the price paid by the LA cruisers, I'm hoping we get something in addition to what they were offered. Maybe a special themed deck party on the second night?

There were complaints about the food and overall service duing the LA cruise. Hoping Disney will be on top of these issues for our cruise.

Anyone going with kids?

I booked this for the whole family (DD will be turning 9 on June 5th just before the cruise and at that time DS will be 7)

I'm wondering if there will be less kids than the usual number on a Disney cruise since school will still be in session for most NE school districts, it's only a two day trip and somewhat expensive, even for Disney. Your kids should have a great time in the kids clubs, as well as getting autographs from and photos with the characters! Also, remember to drop off at Guest Services either a pillowcase, t-shirt, photomat or even a Minnie "Statue of Liberty" vinylmation for signatures by all the Characters on board.

Hello everyone....I am booked with my cruisin' buddy Michael on this cruise as the second of a B2B. I am so excited that DCL has FINALLY come to NYC. From very reliable sources...

1. DCL will not be going to Bermuda - they can't get in (too many ships have a lock on the port) and the port fees were out of control...

2. The ship will be berthed in Manhattan...they looked at Brooklyn shipyards, but for these trips opted for Manhattan. They are looking at Brooklyn for future sailings because it is easier to get in and out of JFK and LGA from there. Personally I was very happy to hear they didn't look at Bayonne or Elizabeth (eeewww).

3. Is there an FE list going? I would like to be on it if there is.

Cayla

Welcome Cayla,

I don't care which port in NY Disney sails out of as long as it's NY. The 40 minute drive will be so nice.

My daughter and I were on the LA to Vancouver with you, we had a great time and would have liked to stay on for Alaska but couldn't get away for that long.

Welcome Cayla!

I've sailed out of the Bayonne Terminal. Nothing wrong with Bayonne! I will second the ewwww about Elizabeth though.

There hasn't been any talk of an FE yet. If you'd like to kick it off and be in charge of it, be my guest! :) I'd be interested, I participated in one during my 2009 cruise. It was fun!

I would also be interested in participating in an FE. If you don't want to organize it, I'd be happy to do so!:cheer2:

We are now three in the cabin....my new DGF (darling gryl friend) is joining Michael and I (Michael is a friend and cruisin buddy)...

Please be kind...this is my first time managing the list, and I am tackling 3 at the same time (never do things by half I say!!)

If you wish to be added please PM me. In the subject line please put FE LIST ADDITION for NYC 2 day June 15 this is because I am on numerous cruises next year and on many FE lists...please cut and paste this into the subject line for me.

The colors are just to show you my information...you don't need to do it in color :rotfl:

then give me the following information:
Dis name: padalyn
Real world name: Cayla
Cabin #: 7631
who is sailing with you?: dear friend Michael, Cathy (DGF)
ages of any children: n/a
any special information such as food allergies: Cayla: allergic to juniper
your email address - this will NOT be published in any way. This is just so I can email the list to everyone. I use Blind Copy, so the email address will remain private.

I will publish this list about 60 days before we sail - this way folks can get things together as needed....unless someone has a different suggestion?

On the sail date, I will put copies of the most current version on my cabin door.

I use excel to manage stuff like this...if you need the list emailed to you in the *.doc format please let me know...my version is *.docx (office 2007 or later)

as I said - the email addresses will NOT be on this list, I will keep a copy on my computer that no one will see. I prefer (and know many who also like) email privacy...no spamming here!
