Jumping, Dancing & Jamming Our Way Through Walt Disney World! I'm With the Band Now!

How many times did you call to say you were coming? How many times did you call and say you were coming? What the he double hockey stick do they NOT understand about that. I'm glad to see they made it right by you, but no excuse for all that uncertainty to begin with.

Oh, and congrats to the boss!

Wow Lisa, you have a lot on your plate between your boss and Lacey getting married! Best wishes to your boss on his upcoming marriage. I hope things get back to normal for you at the office. I know all about bosses and how they can be big blubbering babies. ;)

I'm glad you got Lacey's invitation glitch worked out. When is her wedding date? (I'm sorry, I know you've probably posted before).

Wow! I can't believe the inn gave your room away after you had called them serveral times! That just stinks but at least they made up for it.

I had to laugh about your comment on being careful about watching your tongue when you say a restaurant name or else it will come out as a curse word. When I was 16 or 17 my family was shopping around for an inexpensive car for me to use. We were driving around and I wanted to tell them that I liked the car we had seen at City Chevrolet best. Well I got tongue twisted and pronounced city with the "sh" sound from Chevrolet. :rolleyes1 We were definitely not allowed to curse in my family and my mom jerked her head around and said "young lady I sure hope you didn't say what I thought you just said". I said "yes ma'am I said it, but it wasn't on purpose!" My dad just laughed. To this day I can't go by that car dealership without thinking of that slip-up!

Sorry to hi-jack with a personal story. :) I am curious to see what time you sleepy-heads were able to wake up after your looooonng day - yikes it was long!

You're experience at the Inn reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where he reserves a car but they give it away.

"We don't have your car"- agent

"But I have a reservation- that means there should be a car for me"- Jerry

"I know what a reservation means, sir"- agent

"No, apparently you don't. The reservation is the part that KEEPS the car. Anyone can take a reservation. (Pluck, Pluck, Pluck). The hard part is KEEPING the reservation!"- Jerry

:rotfl2:

I can't believe they gave away your room!! Thank goodness they gave you the 2 rooms & didn't charge you for the first night. I just can't figure out why in the world they would do that after you called them. :confused3
Are you going to go to your boss's wedding? If not, do you at least get Friday off this week? :)

I can't beeleive they gave your room away. It was a good thing it wasn't me., I would've probably lost my temper. LOL! That late at night and being on the road all day, I would've probably embarrassed myself with my yelling. :lmao: Even sitting in the car, I think after 10 minutes I would've went in annoyed. :) And then Skip would get made a me for wondering why these people didn't do their job.

Coming back in a bit to check in with you guys and gals. I promise!

I have been reading a thread on the resort/discount board that I find pretty interesting. Someone posted that Disney is going to cut down on the number of discounts they offer. I know, I know, people have been saying that for quite a while now but I still find it interesting.

I don't know about ya'll but I was pretty much floored when I saw the 2012 prices. When I priced our 2012 vacation, it was quite a bit more than this year's vacation but I went ahead and booked it. I continue to hope that they offer some kind of discount/special offer during our travel dates; otherwise, our vacation may have to be cut short by a couple of days or.....GASP....we may go somewhere other than Disney.

I thought I would shoot Disney an email and let them know about the thread and to voice my thoughts and concerns. A copy is below. I know I may not get any response from Disney other than the generic "thank you for your comments" email but I thought I'd give it a shot. Never hurts to let them know what I (along with thousands of others) are thinking.

Good morning,

We are WDW vacationers/lovers through and through and hope to continue to be for many years to come. I'd like to voice a few of my thoughts and concerns if I may.

In the past, we have been fortunate enough to take advantage of discounts that Disney has offered to the general public. Without these discounts, our family would not have been able to visit Walt Disney World. We spend, literally, thousands upon thousands of dollars while on vacation. We scrimp and save all year long in order to enjoy ourselves. Having said that, over the last few trips, we have cut back a lot on the "extras" such as snacks, souvenirs, etc. Those little "extras" certainly don't make or break our vacation but it does take a bit of the joy and excitement away.

I have already booked our 2012 vacation but it's at "rack rate" and without dining (which we got free last trip) and I couldn't believe the price of the vacation. My jaw almost hit the floor when I saw the price. Needless to say, it was a massive blow to our already tight pocketbook. Unfortunately, with the rise of the ticket and room prices as well as the increase in the price of food and dining, I am not sure if we will be able to keep the reservation and vacation at Disney next year unless Disney comes out with a special offer during our travel dates (May 23rd through June 2nd).

It makes me sad to think that we may have to vacation elsewhere but the reality is that the economy has hit us hard as it has many others in the United States and elsewhere. I would rather give my hard earned vacation dollars to Mickey Mouse and his gang but that may be what we have to do.

I am an active participant in a discussion board and I know that I am not alone in my concerns. There is one thread in particular that was started which discusses whether or not people will be able to travel to Disney in the future. I thought you guys might be interested in the thoughts of those posters. If so, here's the link: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2761551. I am sure that this thread will continue on and on as we all have thoughts on whether or not we can travel to Disney if there are no future discounts/special offers.

I know that I am only a little fish in the sea of those who swim/travel to Walt Disney World each and every year but I wanted to express my thoughts and concerns to you. I hope that I am able to keep our reservation but I simply do not know if we can do that without some sort of discount. Hopefully, you guys will send me one of those ever elusive pin codes or put something out for the general public that I can take advantage of. I know I have to decide something soon. It may be a pipe dream to think that there will be offers during our travel dates but a girl can dream can't she?

Thank you so much for your time.

Lisa McBride

That's a great letter, Lisa! :thumbsup2 Keep us posted on their response.

/
HI Lisa,
That is a very well written letter! I think its great you gave them the link!! Let them see what people are saying...

I hope someone gets back to you..
Keep us posted!!

That is a great letter Lisa! Very well written, repectful and polite, which I think may make it more likely to have someone give an actual response back to! :)

Very well put!! I priced a trip for October 2012 (that I talked Keith into for my "big" birthday!!) but without discounts it may not work since we also want to eat! The trip I priced so far is the same I paid in 2009 for 3 people plus 3 less days this time around!! We aregood if they extend the military deals slightly! Can't wait to see if they respond to you or not, and if so what they say! Oh, and I got a PIN for rooms a few weeks ago! :yay: But we can't go this fall. :guilty: The one time I get a PIN! Oh well....:)

Great letter! You really have a way with words (as was already evident from all your TR). Doubt they'll respond, but sure hope so!

Great letter. Yea we have a trip booked starting Nov 26 and there have been no discounts at all. We booked last oct and nothing. We took our dinning off just to bring the cost down. I couldn't see paying 1100 for food for 3 people. So unless something comes out soon we will be sharing meals and bring stuff from home.

Next year we are looking at a trip to Hawaii because get this it's cheaper than disney.

 They gave your room away even though you called twice. Glad you were compensated.

Great letter about the rising costs of a Disney vacation. I think I need to write one of these, too. Will you post the address, please?

I have seen those dryers too. We have them at the mall. I do not like them..but I hate all air dryers. I need a towel to dry of with.
I think Mama needs a new van.

I'd much rather have a towell too but these dryers were pretty cool.

I am bad on collecting brochures too! I have a folder for each state because "you never know when you need to find something fun to do!" :rotfl:

A little Dis meet would be fun!! We booked our hotel last night! :yay: We go up on Wednesday and stay until Sunday--Keith can't take the whole week off so we grab what time we can!

Oh my word....we are so alike. Are you sure we aren't related? I pick up brochures from all over the place. John just looks at me and shakes his head. :sad2:

John says I don't need to be barging in on Lacey and Jesse and that I have to share her with his family too. I told him that they will get to see her all the time and I won't so that's sharing. ;) I need to get the names of some hotels from you just in case we do go to Tennessee. If we do go, our dates will probably be just like your's. John can't take off many days from work either.

Well...I'm back from our 12 day camping trip and have finally taken the time to sit and catch up on your trip report.

I love the idea of a 4th of July road trip! YAY! It sounds like the traffic and road construction weren't so fun, but just heading off for the weekend is exciting.

We've never been to Rainforest Cafe. There is one close to us in Niagara Falls, but we have just never gone inside. Maybe we'll have to try it! Your appetizer platter looks yummy!

Did you not just make 2 calls to the hotel to be sure your rooms were available?? Oh my goodness....can't wait to see how THAT turns out! :rolleyes1

I saw your pictures of Facebook and I would have loved going on the camping trip with you and your family. Ya'll always seem to have so much fun on those trips.

Sorry I havent said anything for a while. Our comp is down with a virus so my cousin is working on it. Who knows maybe he will get it going faster again too. This trip report is going along pretty good. Good mini trip so far.

I totally understand! Computer issues drieve me crazy!

Woohoo! Just found your new trip report and am in!

Welcome aboard! I hope to get back to my Disney report soon. In the meantime, enjoy our road trip to Tennessee!

That must be some writing your doing it's going on 24 hours. lol. J/K I hope you have a great weekend.

I am sorry I haven't had a chance to post much lately. My boss is going to drive me bonkers if he doesn't hurry up and get married. :upsidedow

Hey , no fair leaving us in suspense so long :-)
I can't believe after calling so may times there would be a problem with the room. Looking forward to seeing what happens next.

Suspense is over!

Hi Lisa. Great start to your TR and I'm only on pg 10. Hunter is getting so tall. They grow to fast, I know, Jaden who is almost 11 is almost as tall as me. I wish I could keep them small for a little longer.

Glad the weather was nice for your drive. I remember last TR that you'll had rain. The river was extremely high. We pass over the Mississippi near New Orleans and it was something to see.

Glad you'll were able to get the ac fixed so quickly.

Hopefully I will catch up with the rest of your TR this weekend.

Glad to see ya here! I was thinking the same thing about your kids when I was over on your report. Don't they grow up fast!

That is a great letter! I was going to do the Princess half marathon this February in preparation for the Boston Marathon in May, however due to the cost of the weekend, and the fact that my ankles and knee are in worse condition than I ever imagined, I am going to back out of both. My running career will end either in Falmouth in 3 weeks with the Alzheimer's association or in October with Komen. I should not be falling apart at 29, and with no kids/family I SHOULD be able to afford a weekend in Disney, but it is crazy! Hoping one of my friends cast member friends can hook us with with a discount.

Ok, now I'm all caught up.

Glad it wasn't bed bugs and just gnats. With me from being from South Louisiana, gnats are no problem for us. :rotfl:

How exciting that your next trip is booked. I wish we were booking a DW trip for next summer, but we have a Disney Cruise booked instead. :cool1: It will be a surprise for the kids.

We also love the Rainforest cafe. We've been there twice and both times we were satisifed with our meals.

Glad you were able to make the trip to Tennessee to visit Lacey, but OMG with the van problems. Hope it gets better.

I can usually stand gnats but these suckers would bite us and it hurt like heck.

Oh I wish I could talk John into going on a cruise. I've actually priced out a 3 (or was it 4) day Disney cruise and then a Disney vacation right after it. It came out to just $100 or so more than staying at Disney the entire time.

The van problems were driving me nuts. Like I said, I was praying that it would make it to Tennessee. Then, if it died, I didn't care. I'd fly home if I had to.

I feel your pain only in the opposite way My Mom can't seem to get going, we will be getting passed by everyone on the road but she will not speed up. I try to drive anytime we are out with her. Mama's van seem's to be a bit "finicky".

I don't know which one is worse....driving fast or driving slow. Mama doesn't drive fast once she gets going, it's just when she starts off. I feel like I'm on Mission Space. I think the thing the bugs me the most is the fact that she almost refuses to drive in the left hand lane which means she waits until the last minute to pass anybody. Oh well, I am sure I scare her with my driving too so that makes us even. :thumbsup2

A couple of great updates while I was away!

I am sorry to hear about the trouble you had getting an activation code for your card. Sheesh! Last year I did the points redemption while at Disney- through Guest Services, because my billing period came up during the trip and I wanted every last point possible!

Happy Birthday, Hunter (I know, belated). Looks like a yummy meal and a great table at RFC. Did you tell them it was his birthday? Did they do anything special.

Are you kidding me on the road construction, transmission issue and no vacancy problems? :scared1:

I love the color on that Suburban. You wouldn't have trouble finding that in the Goofy lot at MK!

I am enjoying your trip report and am loving all the information you're posting on Universal Studios.

I had no idea I would have such a hassle getting my points/rewards card. It was such a pain in the behind.

Hunter had a wonderful birthday and didn't mind at all that we didn't celebrate on the actual day because we more than made up for it while at Disney.

WOW! Sorry ma'am, we gave away your room right after you confimed you were coming so when you get here you can add to your list of "NOW WHAT".

Glad to see they comp'ed you for everything though. I would have went to sleep on the front desk:rotfl2:

Can't wait to see what resturant you went to, and why it could be cussing!

I know! When John told me that they didn't have the room I booked, I couldn't believe my ears.

Oh. My. Goodness.!!! If it isn't bad enough you are exhausted add to it the stress of not getting to bed until 4:30am!! Yep, I think I could have fouind amny places in that lobby to curl up and sleep! At least they "made" it up...I could definitely take that comp though! Pretty good deal!

I have an idea on the restaurant...but I will wait and see! :rolleyes1

Those couches in the reception area were looking mighty good about that time of the morning. :rotfl:

I'm betting your idea on the restaurant is right on the money and will be posting that update today.

On my way home I saw this and thought of your TN trip...

IMG_3473.jpg

Are there seriously more than one of these in this area or is the metallic purple fairy making the rounds!?! :lmao:

I wonder if that was the same Suburban. We were between Jackson and Meridian when we saw it. So, that's in your neck of the woods.

Well, it bites that they gave away your room, but at least they were decent enough to comp the rooms for the night and give you 2 rooms for the price of one.

I am thinking about starting a PTR soon for my trip (and actually being able to keep up with this one!). I know its over 6 months away, but next month I will be busy with last minute wedding stuff for my sister's wedding, then September is the wedding, then October I am on a road trip for 16 days. So, maybe if I start it now I can finish it before I leave in February! :lmao:

Can't wait to read the rest of your mini TR, and then the TR!

Yeah, the sting of them giving our room away was made up for when they gave us our first night free AND gave us two rooms for the price of one.

Let me know when you start the PTR. I'd love to read along.

Oof, having to go through all that trouble at 4am sure ain't fun, but at least they found a solution that did not involve you having to pay more.

Their solution was fine and dandy with me. Now, if I had to pay full price, then the guy behind the desk was have gotten a talkin' to.

I'm in.

Even though I don't live anywhere near Louisiana or Knoxville, I do know that drive. My eldest daughter lives in Shreveport and my in-laws live in Grainger County, TN (about a half hour from Knoxville). Several times, we've made the drive..down to Shreveport, then over to my in-laws. Can't believe that drive from Shreveport to Tennessee takes that long...after all, they are both in the South.

How close are you to Shreveport. From the looks of things, sounds like you're somewhat close to I-20.

Welcome! We are only 100 miles from Shreveport! Just like they say....it IS a small world after all.

How many times did you call to say you were coming? How many times did you call and say you were coming? What the he double hockey stick do they NOT understand about that. I'm glad to see they made it right by you, but no excuse for all that uncertainty to begin with.

Oh, and congrats to the boss!

Let's see.....2, maybe 3 times. And I had it noted on our reservation that it would be a late check-in. Oh well, at least they gave us two rooms.

The boss is going to drive me nuts if he doesn't get out of this office. He seems to think that he's the only person in the whole wide world who is getting married. Whenever he starts babbling about it, I tell him to plan a wedding that's three States away and three wedding receptions. That usually shuts him up. :lmao:

Wow Lisa, you have a lot on your plate between your boss and Lacey getting married! Best wishes to your boss on his upcoming marriage. I hope things get back to normal for you at the office. I know all about bosses and how they can be big blubbering babies. ;)

I'm glad you got Lacey's invitation glitch worked out. When is her wedding date? (I'm sorry, I know you've probably posted before).

Sorry to hi-jack with a personal story. :) I am curious to see what time you sleepy-heads were able to wake up after your looooonng day - yikes it was long!

Yeah, my plate runneth over. Wait, that's my cup runneth over isn't it? My boss is such a whiney baby now-a-days. I'll be so glad when he gets hitched. Then, all I have to do is get Lacey married and things should calm down. Her wedding is August 20th. There's a dessert reception immediately following, a reception in Tennessee on August 21st and then a reception in Louisiana on August 26th. In between, they are going to Memphis, Tennessee for their honeymoon.

What a funny story! The one curse word that I let slip (which isn't very often) is the S word so I found that story especially funny.

:rotfl2:

I remember that episode! I love Seinfeld and we used to never miss it when it came on. That was one of my favorites. I can see Jerry standing at the desk right now. :rotfl2:

I can't believe they gave away your room!! Thank goodness they gave you the 2 rooms & didn't charge you for the first night. I just can't figure out why in the world they would do that after you called them. :confused3
Are you going to go to your boss's wedding? If not, do you at least get Friday off this week? :)

I guess they figured they'd just give us the king room and we'd be happy. Honestly, I would have been happy with it. Just give me a room!

I am not going to my boss' wedding. It would have cost us about $400 to make the trip to New Orleans for the wedding. He was very understanding when I told him that that $400 was going towards Lacey's wedding. I wish I did have Friday off. I may head out early since we have lots of things to do this weekend.

If I had had the energy in me at that time of the morning, I might have said something. John pretty much had it handled so I stayed in the car. At least they comp'd us a night and gave us two rooms.

Thank you. I would love to go back to my routine of walking/running every day. Every since Lacey moved back home, I seem to be a total slacker.

I sure hope that your friend can help you with a discount. I know that you'd love to end yor marathon career at Disney World.

 They gave your room away even though you called twice. Glad you were compensated.

Great letter about the rising costs of a Disney vacation. I think I need to write one of these, too. Will you post the address, please?

I was happy to get a room....any room. It was a plus that they comp'd us the first night and gave us two rooms.

I felt the need to write the letter to Disney. We've been going to Disney World since Hunter was just 1 year old and have 16 trips under our belt. The cost to stay onsite is going up and up and the argument that staying onsite is so much better is getting weaker and weaker. Here's the link that I used to write them:

http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/contact/

Great letter. Yea we have a trip booked starting Nov 26 and there have been no discounts at all. We booked last oct and nothing. We took our dinning off just to bring the cost down. I couldn't see paying 1100 for food for 3 people. So unless something comes out soon we will be sharing meals and bring stuff from home.

Next year we are looking at a trip to Hawaii because get this it's cheaper than disney.

Thanks. I haven't seen any November discounts out yet either. (Don't know why I am watching for them since we aren't planning on going then. :confused3). I haven't booked dining yet either. The cost to add dining was much higher than it was in previous yers.

John's brother's family had a trip to Hawaii booked last year and said it was several hundred dollars less than a trip to Disney for the same amount of time.....even with the cost of airfare added in.

Great letter! You really have a way with words (as was already evident from all your TR). Doubt they'll respond, but sure hope so!

Thank you. I don't know if they will respond either but we'll see.

Very well put!! I priced a trip for October 2012 (that I talked Keith into for my "big" birthday!!) but without discounts it may not work since we also want to eat! Oh well....:)

I hear ya! Right now, I have our trip booked without dining which is not what I wanted to do. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what, if anything, Disney offers in the way of discounts.

I wish I would get a pin. In all of our years of traveling to Disney, I have never ever gotten one.

That is a great letter Lisa! Very well written, repectful and polite, which I think may make it more likely to have someone give an actual response back to! :)

Thank you. I wanted to get my point across without sounding "poor poor pitiful me". That's definitely not the imagine I wanted to portray. We have been very fortunate in the fact that we've traveled to Disney every Summer (and Fall). The reality, though, is that there are so many of us out there that simply can't continue doing that if there aren't any discounts offered.

HI Lisa,
That is a very well written letter! I think its great you gave them the link!! Let them see what people are saying...

I hope someone gets back to you..
Keep us posted!!

Thanks! I don't have any idea if anyone at Disney will even look at the thread but I figured it couldn't hurt to let them hear everybody's thoughts.

That's a great letter, Lisa! :thumbsup2 Keep us posted on their response.

Thanks April. I'll let ya'll know if I hear anything back from them. I certainly didn't want them to think that I was begging for a discount or something for free because that's not what I wanted. I simply wanted them to hear what I had to say.

Great letter Lisa! I too am keeping my fingers crossed for a January '12 discount! I'll be very interested to see their response!

Great letter, Lisa.

It is getting harder and harder to justify the costs of our Disney trips, and with the increase, I'm not sure when we'll be back. We arne't planning on going in 2012 because of our big vacation on the Dream/then Disney World/then Marco Island in 2013 for our 30th anniversary, but even that dream may not come true at the rate of the current increases.

Great letter Lisa! I too am keeping my fingers crossed for a January '12 discount! I'll be very interested to see their response!

Thank you. Like I said in my letter to Disney, I am just one little fish in the sea of those traveling to Walt Disney World, but this little fish wants her opinions heard.

Great letter, Lisa.

As you know, Kathy, we've been going to Disney World for over 10 years and, over those years, I've seen a constant rise in Disney's prices. I know that they are a business but that business's consumers' wages aren't going up as fast as the prices are rising.

I used to say that there was no way that I would go back to staying offsite. However, those onsite perks aren't looking so good when you can stay offsite for a fraction of the cost of a Disney resort room.
