July No Buy

Catching up again...my DSL modem died the other night, so I haven't been able to post in the evenings! Thankfully the new modem should arrive today.

Our biggest frivolous spending comes on the weekend...especially the weekends that DH doesn't work. This weekend will be the first one since I started tracking and since we started getting serious about saving and not spending. Hoping for a successful NON-spending weekend!!!

I went to work, packed my lunch and fell asleep after I got home. Hooray for laziness=no spending!

I hope I won't be spending much this month. All my weekends are occupied. I'll be having a girls weekend this week, going to a wedding next week, then spending a day at the beach the following weekend.

Having "all my weekends occupied" would mean lots of spending for me. A wedding, girls weekend, or day at the beach would all call for cash.

We are going to Lake Geneva this weekend and that will cause some major discretionary spending to report on Monday.

Good luck! Weekends are our big time for non-essential spending too. Especially in the summer.

Maybe I should separate "frivolous but planned and in the budget recreation" from "unplanned dumb stuff I spent money on." Or, maybe that's what other people are doing when they declare some dates as exempt from no-spend because they are having some special event.

That's what I'm afraid of. Let's hope I make good spending decisions! The wedding I'm not so worried about because DBF is paying for the gas to get there (3 hrs away) and the hotel has been paid for by the groom. But the beach day means food for the BBQ and a girls weekend always means eating out.

I'm not doing so great with my No buys this month :faint:

I need to buy some ingrediants for girls weekend after work today too. Debating whether I should include it in my budget.

15) Crossing my fingers its a no buy :) but will have to update later tonight...

Yeah!! My DSL is working again!! :cool1:

Kept spending under control yesterday and today. I'm REALLY trying to keep to my $50 goal, even though that means I only have $3.29 left to spend. Tomorrow should be good because we have a full day of activities that don't require any spending. But Sunday I think we're going to head to the State Fair - I have free tickets, but I know DD will be bugging me to buy fair food, and it's all crazy expensive. Deep fried Twinkie anyone??

I have completely lost track over the past few days and I did some school clothes shopping so I'm sure I didn't have many no buy days in there, but now I am done shopping until next month and actually on a pretty tight budget for the rest of the month so I am just going to jump back in here.

It is to my advantage that my 8yo who is CONSTANTLY asking for money for stuff has been watching the Disney Channel commercials for Carsland. We live in NC and I keep telling him that it will cost too much for our family to fly there (5 kids), but we might be able to go to WDW next summer if we save. He is determined to get us to DL instead so he is now watching every penny. He has become the electricity nazi making sure lights are off and today at the pool he wanted me to buy him pop (which I never do there) and when I reminded him of disney he said nevermind and had a capri sun out of the cooler :thumbsup2.

Ugh. I keep forgetting to update this, this is the only thing that holds me accountable haha my goal is to start new this week! No more fast food / eating out or little snacks this week...dang twins keep me craving back food! haha

I'm back in this month. It will be nice to be back after taking a few months off. I lost my job at the end of March, went on vaca to WDW in April, shoulder surgery in May, and DD's Graduation party in June. Now that things have slowed down I can get back to my "No Buys". Although in my head I have been trying to following my rules of no buy. Just haven't been documenting it. Documentation is very important for me to be held accountable. I don't track my exact amount. I always round up. That's why you will never see change in my totals. So here we go!

Weekend total of $150 is a guess. We enjoyed a weekend mini vacation in Lake Geneva. This is a cheap for what we did and for time alone together.

For July I'm tracking spending for non necessities.

7/1-$1 (box of ugly Christmas cards at Goodwill for envelopes for cards I handcrafted)
7/2-0
7/3-$2 (We've been out of power since Sunday. The temp inside our house was 93--with no fans, no water to flush, no phone service. If I didn't get some chocolate, somebody was going to get hurt)
7/4 - 0
7/5 $1, vending machine with Snickers bars got me.

7/12 - $2, snack
7-13, 14, 15 - $150? (weekend on Lake Geneva)

The poof fairy was so appalled at my spending that she ate the post I tried to do last night...

Budgeting saves lives. I now have proof...

I was very virtuously tracking my spending online with my banking software, and I saw a post for rite-aid that was for some bungee cords I bought to defeat the evil possum (I call him "Grendel") who murdered three of my chickens (but only ate one, talk about wasteful!!!) Well, Grendel has learned to open the side door of our little coop, but the bungees have kept him out the last few nights since his most recent murder.

Well, tracking that made me realize I hadn't locked up the coop tonight because I'd left the roof cracked all day with a fan blowing in (hey, it was really hot today, and they're walking around wearing down jackets!) I got to them in time and they are all tucked in and bungeed-up safe as houses... no chicken dinner for Grendel tonight!!!

Now, so help me, if I ever catch that little bugger, I'll be pinging the budget board asking for recipes for possum stew!

---
So as for my "appalling spending" confessional. Last week I travelled for work... that was necessary and reimbursable--the facial at the airport spa during a long layover? Notsomuch...

New chickens? "Necessary," because I'm picky about my egg-sources and organics are expensive. Materials to build a bigger coop play-yard since I am overprotective now? Necessary. Bungee cords to secure current coop until Fort Clucks is complete? Necessary... Big giant inflatable ball that the kids can climb inside and roll around the house that I bought at rite aid when I went for the bungees? Yeah... not so necessary... but keeps them busy...

Lots of sodas here and snacks there... but also lots of meals at home, so there is some improvement there... and at least I'm using those coupons McD's sent out, so I'm wasting a LITTLE less money than usual... sort of... :lmao:

Man,this last weekend was really spendy. I'm going to try not to buy anything for the rest of the week. I'm no where near my goal of $0 days and we're already halfway through the month!

Over the weekend, a new Michael's opened up RIGHT NEXT to DBF's apartment. They're having a huge sale and it was the perfect oppurtunity for me to bulk up. Great deals, but I spent over my budget...

This month isn't looking very good at all. :sad2:
