July 8th 2013 Wonder Alaska Cruise!

Working on our FEs and I have a few questions:

Twinddaddy, do you have a cabin number yet or are you sharing the life boat with us? Also, is Grandma Marcie in your cabin/lifeboat or a separate cabin number?

Friends of goingsouth, Karen & John, can you give me an idea of what age group son Brian is in?

Graviela, Cabin number yet or lifeboat too?

Dustermom02 - If you give me the names and ages of your crew I'll add them to my FE list (not the overall group list)

Graviela--6614

Welcome, I am sure you and your family will have a wonderful time.

A number of fellow cruisers have provided a lot of great info about our upcoming cruise. You might want to look at the first page of this thread. You'll note Dopeyfan1966 has a link to her website, http://8july2013-dclalaskacruise.weebly.com/. It has a lot of useful info.

TwinglemomFL posted a link to navigators (the daily news letter you will receive each night in your cabin) from the May 27, 2013 Alaska cruise. You may wish to look over these to give you an idea of the activities you have awaiting you. We bring a highlighter to mark the activities we don't want to miss. Also, a magnetic clip to post the daily navigator by our door, we always seem to miss place it otherwise. http://disneycruiselineblog.com/2013...e-may-27-2013/

The first day of the cruise, at about 2:30 or so, DCL has a tour of the ship. You might want to meet up with that group and explore the areas of the Wonder with a cast member. It is free and I don't think you need to reserve a spot, just meet up on deck 10, the top deck, near the bow of the ship.

If you have any questions, feel free to post them. Val

Welcome!! Twindaddy started this thread over a year ago. DopeyFan1966 created a beautiful website and organized and maintained the FE list starting as far back as October and didn't close it until the end of May. Thanks to both of them.

Every DIS cruise group I have participated in had to have a close date so people who were buying, making and packing their FEs could do so in a reasonable time. Also, people often start their travels a week or more before the cruise.

Bob and I came late to this cruise, a few days after the FE group was closed. DopeyFan1966 allowed us to add our name to the list, with the understanding and notation that it was after the close date. That was very kind of her. Those other cruisers who have come late I have offered to add to my personal FE list but I certainly can't add you to the group FE. To add your family to MY list, could you tell me how many adults are in your group and confirm your three children are all Darling Daughters (DD). Thanks val & bob

You ask about what to pack. There are packing lists on the DCL website and other sites. We have been on 15+ DCL cruises, a couple as short as 3 days and our last B2B we were on the ship over 20 days so have had different packing experiences. There is no real limit to the number of cases DCL will let you bring on board. We met one family of 4 that had 16 checked cases and 8 carry-ons (I have no idea were they put them all in their inside cabin). Other people bring only a carry-on (I guess they use the laundry alot). It really is up to you, do what works for you. Most people find they bring more then they need.

I can tell you DCL cruises are more casual then say Celebrity, and the Alaska cruise even more so. That is not to say people don't dress up on formal night, but if you decide not to don't worry about it. If you wear formal wear every night, no one will question you, they'll think your going to Palos. If you wear slacks and a top, even on formal night, no one will question you. We have done both. Only at Palo do they really care what you wear. I always bring a sweater to wear in the theater and a jacket to wear on deck in the evening.

If you have specific questions, feel free to ask.

WOW, is it really HOT up in Alaska right now!!!!!

We packed a week ago, mostly because I'm way to busy with work right now and won't have any time off until 4 July. Now I'm wondering if I need to rethink what we packed. :confused3

Is anyone dressing up on Pixar Night? We normally dress up on Pirate Night, but this cruise is doing Pixar Night. :sad2: :sad1:

My daughter is going to dress up as Merida, but I don't know if I want to wear my Queen Elinor costume. :confused3

While it is warm inland it looks pretty normal for the inland passage, 63 in Juneau, and in the high 50's the other two - and of course rain. We have been there in May when it was hot and then for the 4th of July and froze, so who knows.

I haven't read if people are dressing on Pixar night but we were on a Pixar cruise in October and only a few kids dressed up. I say go for it if you want. Good luck with the packing.

I spoke to some in Skagway this morning and they have been having a heat wave of 82-83 and the tourists were upset cause they packed all wintery clothes.:)

Will you let me know how many things I should make?

I really can't tell you that. As I explained, I've added you to our FE list but the group list was closed. So it really is up to you if you want to give out any or none at all. You might want to bring little surprises for your girls and put them in when they aren't looking.

Are you going to decorate you door for them?

I ordered a FE hanger from Etsy for my girls, you think it better I pack little trinkets for my kids, where do I find the website for the list?

It was so great to see that other people are so organized! Thanks for posting the navigators and the art work and the port information- it is so helpful. I've been doing the bare minimum. I knew what day to book port excursions and that kind of thing, but I just haven't been able to do the kind of planning I really like to do.

I finally bought a suitcase last weekend that is carry on size b/c we are flying on airlines that pay to check bags this time. For a family of 5 that is not cheap for 3 separate legs, so I started trying to pack for 14 days in a little 22" suitcase. It is not going well. We are going to Denali first and Seattle after. It's sending me into a bit of a panic.

We're a group of 9 - 4 grandparents. Me & dh, & 3 kids. We all cruised the Med together 3 summers ago, 11 days, and mil really wanted to see Alaska, so here we are again and I can't wait.

The kids realized that they will get to see the new Monsters Inc movie on the ship and are very excited about that - I'm like -guys - Alaska - glaciers....

We are booked for mostly Disney excursions because of traveling with the grandparents - they can't stand the stress of worrying about a private car breaking down and them missing the ship. There is one that we are doing the last day - one of those amphibious duck boats - and I booked it straight through the company because the Disney times didn't work. My dad is making noises like he wants to skip, but we'll see.

Are there any plans for this group to meet up?

You and our family will LOVE Denali, I so wish DCL had a Anchorage to Anchorage cruise. We saw so many animals in the first hour we were there.

In fact, we stopped to use the rest room and had to get back into the vehicle fast because this guy was very interested in visiting.
