Ha Ha, I drive through Ridgecrest all the time heading up to Lake Isabella area to go camping. We normally stop there for gas on the way home because it is cheaper there than in the Lake Isabella area.
I'm currently stationed at Ft. Irwin, about 40 miles north of Barstow, out in the middle of nowhere. We jokingly say that we live on the longest cul de sac in the world. That's because when you get off the interstate to head up here there is nowhere to go past Ft. Irwin. You can turn around and go back, that is about it. LOL.
I love the area out by Ridgecrest and Inyokern. I don't mind living here at all, I just don't like the isolation that we have on the base. At least Ridgecrest has a Walmart. I have to drive 40 minutes to get to any shopping (actually the only shopping in Barstow is the Walmart). But, I do enjoy the weather, at least it isn't humid like Florida. I grew up in Pinellas Park (St. Pete), and have only been back there to visit since I left in 1983. Except for the 5 years we lived in Tampa in the 90s. It is just to humid to live there, when I retire from the military we are going to live in Georgia which isn't much better, but at least we will actually get to enjoy all 4 seasons, instead of hot, hotter, and hottest in Florida.
Really can't wait to go on a real vacation again. When I was stationed in Europe we did a lot of traveling. Since we've been here the only vacation we have had is going to Orlando back in December for Christmas so we could visit family. Not bad, but we've been there done that so many times and I got the travelling bug over in Europe. Now all I want to do is experience new things.
See you soon.
Cindy
