My documents arrived at my old home in NY... LOL My folks will be forwarding to me...

Does it allow for international service? If yes, the SIM card should have come with the phone. A Verizon store should be able to help.

Sadly, the phone is very old and the UK is not one of the countries that VZW will work in for this device...

There are a couple of options that you can consider with Verizon. There is a service by Verizon where you can rent a global phone and keep the same number. I have heard that this may no longer be available but it be worth checking it out.

The other option that you have is to look to buy a non contract phone (ebay has a few) is is GSM and CDMA for Verizon. Your choice range from Blackberry or a regular phone. Once you get the phone you can activate the ESN number for US use (you can change back to your old phone after your return if you like) and visit the store to have a SIM card put in and activated global use. This will allow you to switch between phones and keep the same number.

The only downside to this is that as mentioned, US carriers are expensive for global roaming unlike our friends in Europe. So text message will take a big hit (not like it is that cheap in the US anyway). However it does allow for you to keep the same number for contact as needed.

Hope this helps.

This is referring to the Fish Extender Gift Exchange that we're doing during the cruise! People have signed up to participate by contacting "goingsouth" with their cabin number, names of everyone, and ages of the kids. She is in the final stages of putting the list of participants together. Here's my best explanation of what this is about:

Beside every cabin door is a large silver fish with an indentation in the back for cruise personnel to leave information, invitations, etc. Teenagers receive invitations to Teen Club activities and we've also received "rebooking onboard" price quotes tucked in our fish.

DISboarders have taken the silver fish one step further... by creating hanging pockets (much like cloth letter holders) to hang from the fish - thus the name, "Fish Extender". The Fish Extenders (FEs) can be made of practically anything (cloth, plastic, paper gift bags, etc.), as long as they have at least one pocket that can hold surprises. My FE is just a plain old canvas bag on which I've added a tropical scene, the names of the Disney ships, and our names. I'd love to have a "real" FE like some of the creative DISers have sewn, but I've never taken the time to attempt to make one.

Then, each "Cruise Meets" thread (such as this 7-6-10 Baltic one) organizes a little gift exchange during the cruise. People sign up by giving their cabin number, names of everyone in their cabin, and ages of the kids so that everyone will know how many goodies to bring and where to deliver them. Some people give one gift per family, some people give a little gift to each person. It's totally up to the giver to decide what to give and when to give it during the cruise.

There are several threads on the main cruise boards that discuss ideas for FE gifts. Some gifts are from Dollar Stores, some are handmade, some are bought in bulk from websites that sell trinkets like the Oriental Trading Company, and some are quite elaborate. Often, they are stickers, candy, glow sticks, lanyards, photo albums, luggage tags, bracelets etc., with themes such as pirates, beach, cruise, tropical, hometown, holiday, etc. The main idea is just to have fun finding little goodies in your FE throughout the cruise. Kids LOVE running back to their cabin to see if anything's been left in their FE. As an adult, I have to admit that I love it, too!!!

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Also, this thread has tons of info and ideas about FE Gift Exchanges: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1219607

If you want to join in on the fun, contact goingsouth now because she's closing the list in order to give everyone time to gather their FE gifts before leaving for the trip.

Anyone been upgrdaed?

I did some investigating on the DCL site and there seem to be a decent number of staterooms still avaialble... Can even still get a verandah...

Is there an FE (so far) list posted?

Goingsouth is putting a list of everyone who is taking part in the FE exchange. I think the list closed on the 1st for those who wanted to take part, but if you PM her she may add you to the list.

We are just 2adults/no kids-does that matter?

So we are at 20-22 staterooms now for the FE? I still need to get on that and get our stuff to give :upsidedow

I also have to find our FE! We have a great one that someone made for us here on the DIS 2 years ago for our last cruise. I had all our cruise stuff in one suitcase but DH took it all out to use said suitcase about a year ago. I didn't realize it until I went to go through it the other day. Not sure why he had to use THAT one since we have several others. Now I just have to find out what the heck happened to everything!
