I always have the passport panic no matter how organised i think I have been. i have to check they are there lots of times before we leave and the periodically on the journey!

Lovely that your daughter is going to be a flower girl before the cruise, that should sort out the formal night dilemna!

PS I got an email from DCL telling that I could log onto their site and start looking at excursions etc... so I was a bit disappointed to see no excursions up still for Vigo or Cherbourg.I supposed they will have to be up in the next 5 weeks as that will be when the gold \ platinum and suite cabins can start booking.

I am not worry about excursions if full booked etc same with Palo, or brunch palo because half of it keep on the Cruise...

If palo or excursions sold out on internet, better go to Palo first day when you arrive the ship, same with excursions too..

Why, because I went on PC which was sold out, then on internet some sold out and no palo left then I went to Palo on first day seem plenty there...

My friend did it twice at Palo...which we were on the cruise...

don't panic if you see Palo sold out, you know plenty there on the cruise...

Scottishwee35

I am not bothered about actually booking the excursions as we are pretty much DIYing all the ones we do but I like to see what is on offer so I can get ideas.

Palo is the only thing i will TRY to book but as we are only Silver I suspect most of the online bookable slots will have gone. Last time we cruised the only people booking at 105 days were the suites and there were plenty of slots left at 90 days. This time I suspect I will be off to Rockin Bar D when we embark to get our Palo Ressies.

14lb = 1 stone - i forget that you guys use pounds only, where as we use stones and pounds so I weigh 143 pounds at the moment but here i would say 10 stone 3 pounds.

Well I think I like the stone thing -- I may have to start using that weight -- 9 stone 5 pounds sounds better than 131!!:rotfl2:

My packing strategy is I usually start packing that stuff that I know I won't be using before the cruise (formal and evening wear) and pack the rest starting a month before. I can't wait until the last minute!! I to pack each suitcase with both my son and my clothes (day, swim, and evening) so I will always have somthing to wear. I don't pack lightly so I am concerned with the baggage fees:scared1: Hopefully since we are going oversees we get at least one bag free, maybe two.

I can hardly wait!:yay:

To All My British Disser Friends

My son who is currently a Junior In High School handed me his top 20 list of colleges & I need some Info!:confused3

He has included 2 schools in England, University of Manchester & University of Birmingham? Dont ask me why I do not know?

Now he is a good student who takes Honors & AP classes & has a 3.5 GPA, so how are these schools, would you recommend something else?:teacher:

Depends what he is studying/teaching / researching... ...University of Manchester and Birmingham both have good reputation for engineering and sciences. Also Manchester has a good reputation for Business Studies and also for Art. Both are very established institutions and rate highly in the UK.
Of the two Manchester is the higher ranked - about 25th in the world..... whereas Birmingham is in & around the top 50-60, I think.

These are both Universities ...not 'schools' as described in the UK...places of higher education would be a more apropriate term...ages of students are predominantly (though certainly not exclusively) 18 - 22years for ordinary degrees.

I could probably find out more, if you know what he is interested specifically to learn about these places .:goodvibes

I went to Edinburgh University myself, so can tell you alot more about this place (top University of Scotland, top five in the UK and consistently in the top 20 in the world rankings)...if he is interested ?:confused3

Good Rainy Morning All

Only 7 inche s of rain so far & it is supposed to end by tomorrow!:sad2:

Can't believe it is March already!! I too have started the diet. I lost about 40 pounds (don't know how that equates to stones) about 6 years ago but have since gained about 15 back. I have been doing good though and only have 5 to lose to get back to where I was 6 years ago!

Have been doing some cruise shopping! Do you think it is too early to start packing???:rotfl:

Take care. Sheryl

I have been buying a few things here and there. I am using our closet in the spare bedroom as a place to hang clothes just for the cruise. I still need a few shirts to wear to dinner. We try to pack light, so I strive to be able to mix and match.

I am in my second week of the Couch to 5K program that I learned from the WISH board. I am walking all the segments. Trying to build up my cardio for a hiking trip to Rocky Mountain National Park in June. We have also been trying to eat healthier.

Hi All,

Congratulations to Olivia for scoring the goal, shame they lost the game but as you explained it is only a game and she should be very proud for her part in it.

Re the Universities - My understanding of the GPA system is limited so not sure what this equates to but the universities list their entry requirements for each course - now usually these are published using the British A Levels system however I am sure if you contact them direct before he needs to apply they will give you entry requirements for international students.

Both have good reputations, my understanding is that in the US certain "schools" have great reputations and others are just okay. Over here apart from the very traditional Oxford and Cambridge the reputation of a university tends to be judged differently according to the faculty you are looking at so for example some have a great reputation for law course, other are thought to be excellent for the arts etc...

I am sure studying at university overseas would be a great experience and of course selecting a UK one would give all those overseas, away from home experiences but with the advantage of no language barrier and a balance between cultural familiarity and some differences.

Manchester is a great city for students, I am studying at the other Manchester university just down the road from University of Manchester. I must say we are all very envious of the facilities they have. There is a thriving student community in Manchester and plenty to see and do while studying here. We have plenty of US students studying in our university- it is obviously a popular city to chose! Sorry I can't offer any help with Birmingham but if you want to know anything specifically about Manchester just let me know and I will see what I can find out.
