July 30, 2010 Mickey's Adventures England to Espana Cruise

Now that all of the DIS excursions are listed, I would love to hear from people what they think -- and what they are planning. Also, if anyone is considering doing private tours - I would love to hear that information too. The information on the Dis Boards was great for planning excursions on the Med Cruise two years ago (actually made changes to plans which turned out great).

Thanks.:cheer2:

Hi All,

Congratulations to Olivia for scoring the goal, shame they lost the game but as you explained it is only a game and she should be very proud for her part in it.

Re the Universities - My understanding of the GPA system is limited so not sure what this equates to but the universities list their entry requirements for each course - now usually these are published using the British A Levels system however I am sure if you contact them direct before he needs to apply they will give you entry requirements for international students.

Both have good reputations, my understanding is that in the US certain "schools" have great reputations and others are just okay. Over here apart from the very traditional Oxford and Cambridge the reputation of a university tends to be judged differently according to the faculty you are looking at so for example some have a great reputation for law course, other are thought to be excellent for the arts etc...

I am sure studying at university overseas would be a great experience and of course selecting a UK one would give all those overseas, away from home experiences but with the advantage of no language barrier and a balance between cultural familiarity and some differences.

Manchester is a great city for students, I am studying at the other Manchester university just down the road from University of Manchester. I must say we are all very envious of the facilities they have. There is a thriving student community in Manchester and plenty to see and do while studying here. We have plenty of US students studying in our university- it is obviously a popular city to chose! Sorry I can't offer any help with Birmingham but if you want to know anything specifically about Manchester just let me know and I will see what I can find out.

Well he will be on the cruise feel free to fill him in on the school & thanx!

MVAN,

We were also on the Med cruise in 2007. The schedule on that trip was hectic with a shore excursion every day to visit one of the fabulous icons or to explore a city. We are taking a different approach on this cruise and are going to only do excursions in Normandy and Vigo. We have selected the Beaches of Normandy Trip to visit the sights of D-Day and in Vigo, the trip to the Capitol city of Santiago. Really wanted to go rafting or kayaking, but the prices are why too high for such a short time on the river.

The other ports we are going to explore on our own. My family lived in Sevilla for several years in the 1960s and we have visited there before, so we are going to stay in Cadiz for the day.

Looking forward to meeting everyone on the trip. Happy Planning!

I'm interested in private tours too... DCL tours are too expensive for us - since this is a little unexpected holiday extra for us (due to the great price offer).
Interested in sharing ideas and possibly in making up numbers if anyone needs some extra people to bring down costs.

Hopefully I'll have a bit more time in the next few months ...I feel I have been neglecting this trip, since we are only just over the last one :)!

:cheer2: :cheer2: 19 WEEKS TO GO :cheer2: :cheer2:

:yay::cool1: UNTIL THE ENGLAND TO ESPANA CRUISE :cool1::yay::banana:

:thumbsup2  :woohoo:DCL HERE WE COME!!! :woohoo:  :thumbsup2

Can believe we are in to the teens in terms of number of weeks left...

So, I was just wondering how many DCL cruises you each have done. i see from the thread that there are a few first time DCLers and a few first time cruisers.

This will be our third DCL cruise and our fourth cruise vacation. I know already I will rebook onboard for another trip, right now it suits our family perfectly and whilst i can't say that I wouldn't sail on another line I know that we are happy with everything we have experienced so far on DCL. We will probably book a dummy date for sometime in 2011 with a view to moving it to a 2012 cruise. I am not keen on the short trips they have planned for 2011 and we will probably take a year doing a more budget vacation in 2011 to save up hopefully for either a Baltic or Eastern Med which are my hopes for DCL in 2012!

Anyone else planning to rebook, I would love to sail on the Dream but living in the UK even though they are more expensive the European trips avoid the long transatlantic flight and the expense.

Hope everyone has a great weekend,
Mel

This will be our fourth DCL cruise ...and we have already re-booked on our last trip with a view to a Feb 2012 cruise on the Dream (hopefully).

Personally, I would not normally have chosen a Med. cruise, or a mid Summer vacation for that matter (we like to go away somewhere warm in October & Feb, to make the British winter shorter !) but at the price it was offered, it was irresistable !!!! :yay:

Hi everyone,

Just to say hello and we are all days busy with work, so we also haven't planned anything yet. But it's coming closer, so i'll start lookin' for wich shore excursions we should do.

and yes: the excursions on the Med cruise was worth it! we saw great things in a very short, but perfect organised way!

We (family of four me, DH, DD-14 and DD-10) finally have booked our air so it is official! We have had the cruise ressie since December at the great rate but have been in sticker shock on the flight costs. We finally found a decent (not great) one so we can begin all of the additional planning. Paris and London hotels and excursions (pre cruise) and Barcelona (post cruise). We didn't want to get too excited about the trip until we knew we wouldn't cancel. Let the planning begin - all tips and suggestions are welcome especially for Paris and London!

Is it me or are all the excursions fairly underwhelming!:confused3

I like Seville but not with 2 hours of travel each way?:headache:

& Lisbon is an interesting city, I will have to invest in Rick Steves guide because the tours listed for Lisbon were Blah!

Hi Mel

I cancelled the Dream last week :sad2::sad:

We are going to Florida next year for my special birthday and my husband boss refused to give us 2 half week times off as only two weeks... we booked Royal Caribbean FOS for a week and one week with villa...

I don't think we will go back to Florida after that unless Dream come to UK, that would be great....but when - will Dream come to UK? maybe 10 years time??

We made it back from spring break on the Wonder, had a great time, but 4 days is way too short.

Had a beautiful at Castaway Cay, and my oldest even got to try Pelican Plunge as it was a test run the day we were there, so we will miss that on this cruise, but 8 days will be great.

Someone asked about Fish extender exchange, I am keeping a list and I will post what I have later.

Awww sorry you had to cancel the Dream Scottishwee - we won't be going back to Florida for a while, probably not until 2013 or 2014 but I am really hoping that with 3 and then 4 ships in service there are frequent European cruises for us.

Put me down for two of the lanyards, didn't see how much they were but we will take two (just for me and DH the little ones are too small for them at the moment!)

MKMommy - wow you got to try Pelican Plunge - it looks great, I will miss Castaway Cay as this will be my first DCL cruise that hasn't stopped there but I am just really looking forward to 8 nights onboard so even without CC I can't wait!

Agree totally about the underwhelming excursions, to be honest we have booked this sailing because the dates fitted for us and it involved only one short flight - the ports are not that imporant to us really although they are growing on me. We are going to do our own thing at each one I just wanted some inspiration from DCLs excursions but I am not finding their offerings that exciting! (Probably a good thing as it could lead to a lot of extra spending if I loved their offerings!)

I copy herewith from Andrew UK...

"UK SUMMER WEATHER

A small alternative to the Met Office who generally predict the weather long term very well, (unlike the Met Office) has said, we are going to have a heatwave in the UK this summer, its going to be long and very hot and the first two weeks in August will break all records.

They predicted our wet summer, against the Met offices, barbecue summer for 2009, and they also predicted a long cold winter to March 2010, when the Met office said it would be mild. So they have done well..

Its to do with the jet stream, El Nino factor and Atlantic ocean sea temperatures."

that is our cruise start off end of July and will we get the lovely weather:beach:
