The coast of France, Spain and Portugal have been hit with a severe storm recently. These waves could be the tail end of that storm as it passed across the Med. It is a large sea and can be quite rough. It was when we sailed in 2007 and this was the last sea day back to Barcelona. There is a wind/weather front called the Mistral which can affect the French coast too. This boat was nearer to Marseille so it could have been a combination of effects. As with everything it is freak accident and is sad for those involved. The Med is traditionally a 'mill pond' for most of the year.

Just saying hi again...having read the entire thread from start to finish.

We are just back from the not so magic, Magic cruise of the 13th Feb that was delayed by one day....and so I able to think about this cruise now !

I'm Judy, and my kids are DS Joe 13 and DD Vyrnwy 9, from Cheshire England.

The kids don't know we are going on the Magic AT ALL. They think we are taking the car ferry over the channel to Barcelona !!! I've told them we are meeting an "old friend", 'Madge', in Dover (alias The Magic of course). I can't wait to see their faces on the morning of the cruise ! We are staying at the Premier Inn near the terminal, but I'm unsure whether to meet with others staying there as the secret is bound to be out before the morning if we do....but I might creep over and say hi (I don't suppose there's anyone really called Madge going to be there is there ???....that would be soo funny !)
It was strange getting off The Magic a fortnight ago, thinking that we were soon going to be back on it again...especially as we normally only cruise every two years !
The kids were very upset to say goodbye to their server Jayson...but little do they know that I have requested him again in July. He was teasing them the last night of the cruise saying they would all be grown up next time he saw them !!!

This time, I will be sailing with my friend also a Judy (she is Judy Tarrant - I note there is/was another Tarrrant family on board from the UK !). It will be my friend's first cruise !...but our 4th Disney cruise. DH has to work that week but he is meeting us in Barcelona ....ANOTHER surprise for the kids !! He'll be knocking on our apartment door a little after noon on the day we get into Barcelona...we are staying till Tuesday then flying back to Liverpool.

Note to Scuba Mickey - we went to St Augustine after the cruise a few weeks ago for the first time - we absolutely loved it !!!!! We were staying at Hammock Beach and had some time to kill before we could check in. We went to St Augustine and rode the Red Trolley all around the town. FABULOUS place !!!!!!so much to see and do. It reminded me a little of Key West (probably the trolley bus ride !) We had fantastic pizzas at Cosmic Bluz - such a great host there, so helpful & friendly..... We are definitely going back to St Augustine next trip !!!! The only downside was I tripped over a ramp in the street and went flying - taking half my suntan off my right leg ...my leg is still a mess now...not quite the souvenir you want to take home with you !LOL !!

It sound FUN for your kids in July It will be lovely surprise for them... awww...

My kids always upset when departed times as my son always crying so this time I will tell him that we will be on Disney cruise Dream next year in April... but my kids don't know about RCCI, we think to surprise them after disney cruise??? and our in law know that we are going to RCCI but in law don't know that we booked Disney Dream before RCCI sound we are mad

We cannot decide which one as we felt 3 days is not enough that why we booked 10 days with two different ship as these ships are leaving in cape carnerval...

Anyway, your story sound fabulous for kids and I am sorry to hear that you fall and your tan came off

That is great you can keep a secret, something you will all remember.

Things have been crazy we leave Friday for spring break on the Wonder and I am so unprepared, my train of thought is if I forget something we will have to buy it or live with out it, and that is not me.

Yes, I'll be putting them on the cases on the day of departure...I am assuming the hotel (being on the harbour front) will be giving a very good view of the Magic in the morning ...so I guess the game will be up when the kids draw those curtains !!!!

I am looking for Barcelona hotel ideas! We are going to stay in Barcelona one night after the cruise. I have spent the afternoon on the computer looking at hotels and I just can't decide.

I think I want to be near Ramblas ... but not right on it, maybe 2-3 blocks away. I would like to stay $225 (US) for the night.

Does anyone have hotel recommendations?

Also, how easy is the Aerobus for getting back to the airport ... sounds easy, but want to make sure?

Glad to hear that you enjoyed visiting St. Augustine. The historic downtown is fun to explore and our beaches are very pretty. I volunteer at the Castillo on Saturdays when my schedule permits. I hope you had time to tour the Fort. Sorry that you tripped and scraped your leg. We do have a lot of oddly shaped curbs and bumps in the City. Let me know when you plan to visit in the future.

just a quick 'check in'...its been a while
Cant beleive its only 4 months + to go....and I havent done a thing

Remind me...who is organising the FE list?

Weight loss...omg...getting nowhere fast.
2009 was my year too...lost 4 stone before our holiday last year...but sadly lost the plot and have regained almost 2 of it...ahhhhh....still going to Slimming world every week...but its one on ,half off...etc etc...really need to get my a** in gear. Infact, should be at the gym right now instead of on the laptop....
22 weeks....22lbs...easy

We are staying at the Premier the night before...but our flights home have 'fallen through'..with BMI cancelling their flights into birmingham...so its back to the drawing board. Probably end up coming back into Gatwick or something, cant say we are loosing too much sleep yet, should have known it was all going a bit smoothly

We are staying in Barca for one night, at the novatel, then off to Port Adventura...for a bit of a theme park fix...for 3 nights, back to Barca...then hopefully fly back to the UK on the thursday. we dont need to be back at work until the following Monday...so we can always walk if we cant get flights

anyway...back to not going to the Gym......

Aye, I know 4 months now as I am organising lanyards today...

as it is a bit problem for mickey head as they need permission for it... I contacted one of my friend in usa, She had organising for PC cruise in May 08 and told me that no more mickey head on lanyards so i make the picture for pocket which is allow to use mickey head

Oh dear about flights as it is really annoying as same happen with us with Flyglobespan went bust... but good news we got a letter to tell us that we get the refunds back this month

I am same as you that I went back to Weight Watchers in Janauary and my weight is yo yo!! but I managed to lose weight so far around one stone 2 lbs so far and find it harder...

also I cannot be bother to go to gym or swimming recently... maybe now as the weather get better so I need move on

At Barcelona, my husband have to go back to work on Monday so mean he flight out on Sunday, leave me with 2 kids and in law

Ah well, I try to work out about Port Adventura on Monday for the day but I hope hotel have bus pick up? if not, Olivia and I will do the train or find the bus... We went there 5 years ago,, when Olivia was little and she was not get on any rides because just inch missed, not tall enough...

Glad to hear that you enjoyed visiting St. Augustine. The historic downtown is fun to explore and our beaches are very pretty. I volunteer at the Castillo on Saturdays when my schedule permits. Can't believe its only a few weeks now ...I really must start my diet too ...presently I am the heaviest I have ever been .....I stopped weighing mself a long time ago but I am well into a UK size 14 ...when I used to be a 10-12 !

The kids still have not a clue ...though they have loads of questions about Barcelona, luckily they do not seem very curious about how we are actually getting there !! It helps that my DS has a school trip to France and is going by car ferry from Dover...I asked him to tell me how the ferry compares to The Magic when he goes LOL !!! He is really missing the cruise as he made alot of (girl) friends who were attracted by his his British accent....there was a whole possey that used to follow him round the ship !...oh the delights of being a teenage boy !

14lb = 1 stone - i forget that you guys use pounds only, where as we use stones and pounds so I weigh 143 pounds at the moment but here i would say 10 stone 3 pounds.

You asked if it was too early to start packing - I was just reading a thread on the main forum about packing so let's talk packing over here.

As our kids are still small they are still growing rapidly out of clothes so as soon as the summer clothes start appearing in the shops I buy little by little. If i buy something specifically with the cruise in mind or it is something that I don't want to risk them trashing before the cruise (two girls aged 4 and 2 who love to paint, run around outside and eat spaghetti by twirling it like real Italiens trash a lot of clothes even when they are TRYING to be good!) I put it in my wardrobe. Around three weeks before the cases come out into one of the spare bedrooms and I start assembling clothing with actual final packing in the last week before the trip.

When we are flying i always split everyones clothing between the cases in case one or more goes missing - that way we will all have something assuming at least one case arrives ok! This time as we are driving to the Port I am going to just pack the clothes however they fit best. We will try to take only 2 cases and a carry on plus eldest DDs Trunki (Ride on kids suitcase thing) That way on the way home we will have less lugguage to contend with at Barcelona and Stansted airports. When I get to the actual packing I may try to further condense it but not sure if that will be do-able when you take into account formal wear.

oooohhhh so excited, even just posting on here is getting me in the holiday \ vacation mood!
