T-Shirts are done.

I tried both the traditional iron-on and the new Avery iron-ons (Dark T-Shirt Transfers), and I like the traditional ones much more - much easier to do (no need for close trimming, no tricky backing to remove, etc.)

The results may not match the professional ones people are having done at shops, but they'll be quite satisfactory for the trip.

It was a tough decision, but for me it came down to concerns about luggage capacity, not wanting the extra "responsibility" of having to go around and distribute stuff, and the sure knowledge that others in my group would probably die of embarassment if I actually put one up.

I did come up with a pretty decent door magnet I think - got that printed out yesterday. Today I'm trying my hand at ironing on T-Shirts. Will report once I have results....

And you don't think anyone will laugh at my paper bag one?

I really want to thank Julie for suggesting the luggage scale. I ordered it from Magellan's along with the Jet Lag pills on Thursday and they arrived today.

Now here's the problem--my large suitcase weighs nearly 10# empty! , so I thought maybe I could wear six pair of underwear, three bras, stuff two pair of shoes in my pockets and wear about six pair of sox of course then I would have to wear bedroom slippers because shoes would not fit! I guess we are fortunate that we are packing summer clothes which are lighter in weight to begin with!

Maybe I had just better plan on having money in hand for extra fees at the airport. We used to have a really large suitcase that was always overweight and the porter's at the airport would always tell me "It's a good thing you are flying USAirway because they don't charge you for that extra weight", of course that was not going out of the country, well the Caribbean, but on the ship, but we never paid extra---this time is a little bit different!!

Oohh, can you send me the link to the luggage scale. I need to get one.

Well, I just got back from a private audience with the pope!!!!! I wanted to explain my hot flashes and my deep concern about the high temperatures in Rome. I asked for special dispensation concerning the use of his beautiful fountains. He was very sympathetic and quite friendly. He couldn't believe how red my face got and the amount of steam pouring through my clothing during one of my flashes. Sooooooo... He granted me a special dispensation- and I now I CAN-COOL OFF IN THE FOUNTAINS WITHOUT GETTING ARRESTED!!!!!!
And guess what?????? He loved my propellor hat so much that he sent his pope shopper out to get him and his whole entourage one !!!!
Wait.. Im not done..... the best part was when he asked if I would like to go for a ride in his POPE mobile!!!!!!!! I thought I would faint!!! I quickly said 10 Hail Mary's, 5 Our Fathers and a quick Glory be!!!!!!
I didn't think any of you would believe me... so here is a picture me and my Pope !!!!!!! What a great guy!!!!!

Hi everyone.

I have missed you all.

My life with my mom has been very difficult. On Thursday, I decided not to go on this trip. I am travelling with 21 and several were encouraging to me to try and work it out. I was able to get some new anti-depressants from my mom's doctor and they seem to have calmed her down...

She has been staying with my oldest brother this past week (I think that might have been part of the problem) as we are trying to get her used to someone else besides me taking care of her. I have been with her all day today and I will be with her all day tomorrow and she has told me she does want me to go and she is sorry...(Not exactly the word she used.....but I know that is what she meant). So as of right now, I am going. The seesaw has taken the "wind out of my sails" watching all of you being so excited and planning. I have not taken out a suitcase, bought 1 thing, or given much thought to this vacation over the last several weeks.

Being part of the sandwich generation is not much fun. My 10 year old told me she misses me and that broke my heart. I have been only taking care of mom and my DH has been working with the kids more right now.

I'm glad you're coming and I know how you feel. We had this discussion last week because our mother has not been well (it's been touch-and-go for the last 2.5 years) and she's agreed to have someone stay with her while we are gone. I'm the one staying home if things turn bad before we leave.
Don't worry about not being ready - just get here. you get picks stuff up along the way. We'll have lots of books on us if you want to borrow ;-)

Sorry if I missed this already - but my clothing is busy wrinkling and I'm wondering if there are strategies for un-wrinkling clothing after we get on the ship. Not that I'm meticulous about that stuff - but it would be nice not to look like a crumpled paper bag every night!

OH! My dog is going to boot-camp while we're gone! I'm excited to find a productive stimulating environment for her instead of just a kennel. She's my empty-nest dog - and my sweet buddy.
