Also, another idea - most DISsers put some kind of decorations on their doors - how about a door decorating contest? Judging to be held someway at the end of the cruise? That way those of us that are held to weight restrictions have a few days to gather door decorations? The slideshow I want to post also has pictures of some door decorations. BTW, the people with the advantage here are those that scrapbook. ;)

Lisa - do you by any chance have some other pictures of any door decorations? In all my infinite wisdom - I keep forgetting to take some pictures. Oh well, color me brainless.

Good Idea I'll be in a door comp

thanks, it seems i should be pleased with myself for getting a pirate especially as it's my first day on the board,

You most certainly should be pleased with yourself, Congratulations
I have a few q's.. (I have *never* cruised before.. so it's not really in comparison to other cruise lines but more of a 'cruising for dummies' ;) )

What is really the difference between formal/semi-formal nights? I read it somewhere awhile ago in an old post and now I'm not finding what I'm looking for. Do men *have* to wear tuxes on formal nights? (no idea where I'd find that in the middle of nowhere, Sicily..). Dark dressy suit and tie okay? For formal is it actual super fancy ballgowns or something you'd almost wear as a bridesmaid dress or is it dressed down? If you don't what to go that route can you just eat elsewhere that night?
And for semi-formal.. then is it more cocktail dresses, etc.? Do most people do the formal/semi-formals.. esp being a long cruise?
ETA: We love dressing up.. my main concern is the cruise is only 8 weeks away (hooray!) and we live out in the country where we don't really have access to shops for gowns/tuxes. Might be able to order cocktail dresses and that type online for atleast the semi-formal.. but if not many do it I wouldn't want to waste my time, kwim? It sounds so fun!!!

I'm sure I'll have more Q's soon. Thanks for letting me ask! :flower1:

I was going to tell you about hiring a tux but I think that's been done now

We concur!!! Thank you.! (My husband is a Vietnam Vet)

Happy Memorial Day everyone!... Have a great day!!

Lisa, Dale, Alex (11) and Meredith (5) all of whom are very happy to be joining you on this cruise!!!

Wecome!

Sallie,
I'd like to send you the thread for scrapbooking but have no clue how. Also, have not been able to post pictures on the board either. I'll try again later.

It's been a difficult weekend and hopping in to see what's going on the Dis has helped to keep my mind busy and give me something to look forward to.

My son's 16 year old friend was killed in a car accident and I had to take him to the wake today and the funeral is tomorrow. WHat do you say to a Mom or Dad who has lost their 16 year old daughter?

I don't mean to bring the board down but please give your kids a big hug tonight and tell them how much you love them. I'm so glad we have booked a cruise with the kids for next February. Making those memories just seems so much more important now.

THanks for the diversion and for listening.

Sandra

Sandra so sorry! Love and hugs:grouphug:

I've become obvious huh?

Hope everyone had a great few days off - we didn't go away, but it was quiet. Kind of a practice weekend for having the kids home all of the time - only 7 1/2 more days of school here.

Dear Sandra,

My DD17 had three similar instances and she lost her granddad in the last few months........she attended all the wakes and was strongly affected by it. All I can say is that the normal routines of high school seemed to help her get through it and staying busy..........sorry to hear of your news.....:grouphug:
