Oops. Somehow I messed up the regular quote thing. Ughhhhhhh... I'm a slow learner.

Don't worry, I'll get it all sorted out eventually..........:dance3:

I have a few q's.. (I have *never* cruised before.. so it's not really in comparison to other cruise lines but more of a 'cruising for dummies' ;) )

What is really the difference between formal/semi-formal nights? I read it somewhere awhile ago in an old post and now I'm not finding what I'm looking for. Do men *have* to wear tuxes on formal nights? (no idea where I'd find that in the middle of nowhere, Sicily..). Dark dressy suit and tie okay? For formal is it actual super fancy ballgowns or something you'd almost wear as a bridesmaid dress or is it dressed down? If you don't what to go that route can you just eat elsewhere that night?
And for semi-formal.. then is it more cocktail dresses, etc.? Do most people do the formal/semi-formals.. esp being a long cruise?
ETA: We love dressing up.. my main concern is the cruise is only 8 weeks away (hooray!) and we live out in the country where we don't really have access to shops for gowns/tuxes. Might be able to order cocktail dresses and that type online for atleast the semi-formal.. but if not many do it I wouldn't want to waste my time, kwim? It sounds so fun!!!

I'm sure I'll have more Q's soon. Thanks for letting me ask! :flower1:

What we are doing is ordering DH's tux on board the Disney Magic. The web site is Cruiselineformal.com You just click on Disney cruise lines and up comes a menu that you can order whatever package DH needs. They will deliver right to your stateroom and pickup from your room at the end of the cruise. Quick and easy!!!!

As a quick fix for you, maybe you can find a long black skirt. You can then wear a beaded or sparkly top and viola- evening attire!!!!

Honestly, you won't look misplaced if you don't decide to go formal. You'll see all types of attire that night. It's just that we want this cruise to be special for us.
Good luck!

Mrs G-- Thanks so much for the tip! I had no idea you could get a tux to go on board (solves that prob!). I've found a few dressy dresses I love online.. just wanted to make sure it didn't have to basically be a huge ball gown!

thanks for you kind welcome that includes everyone. I'm really enjoying reading everyones post I'm concerned it may get addictive and that will mean I'll never get enything done at home. The weather here in the UK is typical for a bank holiday weekend, rain, wind, rain and more wind so at least it is giving me something to do today.
I'm sure my older girls would love to hear about the lab from your daughter, they didn't even last and hour in the clubs on our last cruise

PM me and I'll give you her email after letting her know she may get an email from your daughters!

i'm wearing a bridesmaid dress for formal night, a long strapless dress for semi formal, and a short halter dress for evening casino:woohoo:

This is a slideshow posted by another DIS personality AKA Captain Crash. These shots are from the 11 Night Southern Caribbean Cruise that left on the Wonder back in Sept of '06.

There are 121 images but the ones of importance are towards the back um I think after image 60 or something like that. The first ones are probably taken at one of our stops - probably St. Thomas as I think he was going on his own and renting a car since they've been there before. Don't know since I didn't go. However, I know its long but there are shots of 'fish extenders' AKA mail pouches which are attached to the fish outside the door and some shots of some decorated doors.

Oh yeah - forgot to mention - there is a decent picture (for once 1 I like) of DH and me. HINT: I'm wearing a red tank top with a patriotic Mickey pin on it.

Have fun and hope this works.

OK Apparently its not working will have to have Tom post himself. Sorry folks will ask him later. Sorry.

To all of our serice men and women and their families ...THANK YOU
You are in our thoughts and prayers always but especially today.

We concur!!! Thank you.! (My husband is a Vietnam Vet)

Happy Memorial Day everyone!... Have a great day!!

Lisa, Dale, Alex (11) and Meredith (5) all of whom are very happy to be joining you on this cruise!!!

Hi everyone!!! :cheer2:

My name is Lindsay.. married to Derrick and we have 2 little girls, Valerie and Eleanor (or sometimes Ellie). My husband is in the US Navy and I am currently a stay at home mom. We are stationed in Sicily for the next couple years and are enjoying it, although my husband has been deployed pretty much since we got here. We're getting super excited though as he's due home a couple weeks before the cruise! He has yet to meet our youngest, Ellie as well!

We've never cruised before.. so I'm hoping to learn a lot from you all! I just booked us today.. I had to wait because we weren't sure on homecoming dates until this week for my Dh. I am *so* thrilled and already seemingly addicted to reading posts on here (i'm a message board lady at heart.. usually read parenting boards and the like). I just cannot wait!! We've already seen almost all of Sicily.. so if you have any Q's on that feel free to ask!

I'll ttyl!!!

:welcome: :welcome: :welcome: So happy you have found us!!! Dont forget to go to page 1- Andrew- our DIS God, had put all the pertinent info there, and it has a wealth of info!! I love your daughter's names!!!! Cant wait till we all meet. Mt father's family is from Caltinesetta (sp?)Sicily.
Please tell your husband how very proud and thankful we are to him and to all his fellow Navy and Army men and women. We pray for each of them each and every night

Hi there

I've just popped back on to catch up with the chat and it seems if you're not quick I'll be getting myself 2 pirates on my first day

not that I'm competitive or anything
pirate:

I'm reading this on my brand spanking new computer:banana:
Now I just have to upload all my pics and I'm ready to go again.

Only joking

I would of course have to stay up all night as it is 21.24 here in the UK and most of you still have hours of time to reach the next 00 before bedtime.

Anyway I just wanted to say I've had a great first day popping in and out of this forum and I'm wondering if I will actually get any work done over the coming weeks. It really is a great way to make the build up to the cruise even more exciting,

night night

Wow maria you're going to get on just fine, helen will find she has competiition when she gets back from holiday...but it doesn't matter to me you are both Brits.

Some of us are not at all competitive and wouldn't ever worry about catching up:rolleyes1

Thank you for the list of shows they all sound fab
Got too nervous about flying into Barcelona on day of sailing and have changed flights to Friday, just hope my manager understands,

Happy new computer

You can make it as formal or informal as you wish. Most, dress up for dinner. If you don't want to, you can always go to Topsiders for the buffet. The main thing people do is get their family portrait on the formal nights. If you want to dress up, military usually wear their dress uniforms....you can wear a long dress for formal night and a cocktail dress for semi-formal. Hope that helps!

We never do tuxes.....we dress for Formal and Semi Formal like we were going to church.....Suits are fine.

Usually, about 10% have tuxes...10% have jeans with diamond studs.....and the other 80% are somewhere in between. As we are coming from the US, we do not have much luggage space.....we will be doubling up a lot!!

This is a good assessment of what actually happens!
