WELCOME!

So is anyone doing anything special for Memorial Day? We are going to Maine for a few days so I won't be able to post until I get back. There is no internet service but we do have cable now so that is a bonus:happytv:
So Happy Memorial Day everyone!!!!

Not doing much here, it's expected to rain but we were invited to a neighbors house for a cook out and she wants me to bake a cake. I was thinking lemon, she was thinking pineapple upside down cake. I really wish I could bake a batch of cupcakes like I've seen on the resturant thread...our kids would be in a sugar coma though :rotfl:
Have fun in Maine! I've never been there, only to Vermont once in the summer, we went to the Ben and Jerry's factory.

I always tell my kids when they're excited on snow days that they'll regret it once it's time for Summer vacation! My kids are now realizing (again...its the same every year) I was telling them the truth! 10 of them this year! It was a baaaad weather year....Wednesday was supposed to have been their last day, but they're now in school til June 6th! Perhaps they'll remember that next year....but I think probably not ;)

Carrie6466 is right on the money. I spent half my life in Florida, spent many, many summers there! It's hot and extremely humid! Light colored clothing is definately best, absorbs less heat. Definately recommend hats & sandals! Light weight hats....my mom always used to get us the fishermen type hats for Disney. Sunscreen & moleskin is a must too.

Well! My in-laws were supposed to come. They have their own little plane they fly in. But the weather is so bad that they're just not going to be able to make it (it's a 6hr plane trip or a 13hr car ride).

Which is okay. Because almost all of the servers my husband works with have been hacked, so he really needs to get those fixed. Now, without his parents, he can work on them and get them taken care of without worrying about it all weekend.

I think it's going to be me, my cats, and my knitting this weekend!

Anyone have any good places to suggest getting mister fans from? :)

Can't offer anything you probably haven't thought of but I will say it anyway. Lots of sunscreen, umbrella or some other protection from the rain, extra shoes in case the ones you are wearing get soaked and won't dry overnight, something to flavor the free cups of water with (I think the water there is awful), patience and a good attitude. Have a great summer trip!

If your shoes get soaked, stuff them tightly with newspaper. Sounds odd - but we had to use this tip one time. I was amazed - overnight they dried completely - we had been on the verge of shoe shopping!

I think it will just be Dh and me for Memorial Day. That is how it usually is. My parents go away and my brothers are busy.

The two of us will probably have a cookout, but then I believe we are going to see Pirates 4! Movies on summer holidays are really cool because the theater is normally empty. pirate:

We will be staying June 30-July 8th at BLT. Can't wait!:cool1:

Ok, just paid off my balance!!:banana::banana::banana::banana:

Not doing much this weekend. The weather is supposed to be really nice on Sunday and Monday so we will probably swim and we are having my sister and her family over for a picnic on Monday. My kids both have homework and finals to start studying for. June 8th is the last day of school and it cannot get here fast enough!

Sunscreen, sunglasses and or hats/visors, and aloe vera gel if you burn easily!
Lots of deodorant, extra shoes, sunscreen, cheap ponchos, and multiple ponytail holders are musts for me in the summer weather at Disney. But, I absolutely love it!!
Thinks I learned from my last trip in July:
light clothing, both in weight and in color.
Tank tops & sandals, because we found we got too hot in t-shirts and sneakers.
lots of sunscreen
rain ponchos
hats (either buy or bring). I always said hats make you hotter. I didn't believe, but I was wrong. A hat helped soooo much.
if you are wearing sneakers, moisture wicking socks!
A mister fan

That's all I can think of at the moment

Thank you all:goodvibes, this is great, I honestly hadn't thought of alot o this since this trip is very impromptu! I didn't even think about the shoes/sock vs. sandals, and the fan, I have alot to get working on over the next month or so!!! But I know it will be a great time, always is:woohoo:

DD is marching in the local parade on Monday and I have conned ds and his gf into marching with her so dh and/or I don't have to :rotfl:. After that, we'll probably have a bbq and a birthday cake for ds if the family can come. His birthday is actually Tuesday, but if I can scare up the family on Monday, he'll be okay with that.

Tomorrow will be only 6 weeks til Disney!!!:banana::banana:

This morning in the shower I found myself whistling every disney tune I could think of... absolutely the best time to get back on track.

Back when Star Tours first closed for refurbishment, I was talking to my brother in law Darren about it. He was in a hospital bed at the time, and we chatted a bit about how it would be great to take all the kids down to FL and he was really interested in going too. I was thinking about this today, I see that the ride is open now, and I plan to go and ride it in memory of Darren, he passed away on May 3rd ( which is also my parent's anniversary) and now my sister is left to bring up her two girls. I know its sad, overwhelmingly so at times, but I choose on this day to think how happy he would be to know that I will ride that ride for him in July. ( Star Wars is so NOT my thing).

and I hope to take his girls with us next year.

now I am off to look at creative things people do for their kids at Disney LOL.

janprincess:

I'm so sorry for your loss. That is a great way to remember him.

It was actually very scary. I, of course, couldn't sleep til the storms passed us. Turns out it was a good thing, there was "rotation" just west of the town we live in, sirens went off, and thankfully kids were already in the hall, woke DH up, at which point he helped calm ME down, and we just waited. It sounded horrible outside. Sirens went off for like 10 mins straight, but thankfully we kept electricity, internet, etc....so I was able to follow online to see when the threat had passed. I don't ever want to go through that again. I can't wait to sell our house and buy one with a BASEMENT!!

One thing I can say, is miraculously, there was NO damage. We didn't even have a bunch of limbs down in our yard like we normally do with really bad storms. We are blessed, that's for sure.

Have I mentioned I'm ready for VACATION!?!?!?! 42 days....can't wait to get outa here! :cool1:

That is really scary. I'm glad everyone/thing is OK.

Not sure if you have one close by or not, but Hobby Lobby has had them in their seasonal section the past few times I've been there, and they're only a buck. Not a bad idea to get a few extra at that price, just in case one turns out to be a dud! Walmart usually has them this time of year too, but I know they're not quite that cheap.

We will be at Disney July 9-16 and are staying at Bonnet Creek.
It will be me, DH, our 3 kids, my older sister, and my 11 year old niece (my younger sister's DD). This will be my niece's first trip. She's had a rough year so we asked my sister if we could take her and she said yes!!

We are only doing one ADR and that is at Chef Mickey's on July 11th @ 10:50am :goodvibes

One dd is down with a bad head cold so I duno if were leaving the house this weekend for a cook out or anything in general..even getting my Sunday paper. At least they are getting sick now though and not right before we leave.

can't wait to enjoy the weather and fun times.:cool1:

I hear this! I am getting another sinus infection. (I am the official queen of them). It has a lot to do with the area I live in. sooooo... I love being in Disney because I'm always healthy!! :thumbsup2

Thank you everyone for your thoughts re: my brother in law Darren. He is so dearly missed, it catches me at the oddest moments. I talked with my sister and she has agreed that we will all go to WDW next year. I can't wait to start planning that trip LOL. Wait though. I need to keep planning this trip that is coming up in 32 days... 32 DAYS! Oh my gosh.
I have confirmed the hotel, the YES program for my littles, the car rental, ordered the gift cards for Walmart from our Best Western rewards points, cash from another card's rewards points. Too bad our Carnival card doesn't offer anything but discounted cruises ( LOL ) .
I bought white shorts yesterday, have some tank tops ready to go. Going to get sandals and moisture wicking socks. My girls have new short sets and hats etc. Just need to get a few things for DH. Luggage is out where I can see it LOL and I am ready to pack.
