July 2011:Calling all planners-Post your dates & Resort

*insert happy dance here*

THIRTY DAYS! ONE MONTH!!!

 :woohoo: :yay: :dance3: :cheer2: :cool1:

Hehehehe!

++

That said, I spoke with my parents last night. My dad managed to lose (or cancel) the car reservation he and I made in November. Unfortunately, NEITHER of us remember what company it was with! :headache::headache: He said "that's okay, I suspect whatever car we rented wouldn't fit your wheelchair, anyway!"

:headache::mad::headache:

But, he's got a point. And we are one month out. I am getting better (refresher: two torn muscles in March, one leg, 3-6 month recovery time... 12 week mark just reached), but I'm just starting to doubt that I can walk.

-I have done almost 0 walking since I got injured; including malls/shopping, crossing campus, catching a bus, anything of the sort.
-However, before my injury it was a long cold snowy winter, so I wasn't outside much anyway.
-Before the bad weather started, I was on crutches for six weeks for knee surgery.

This pushes us back to early November before I was walking anywhere, really, for anything. And I'm a month out from Disney... while I'm in less pain (I can sit without pain, but sleeping and walking aren't there yet!), I'm not pain-free. Even if that were to happen in another week, I still have, per the doctor's orders, a few more months of recovery where my healed tears are REALLY fragile.

Plus, all the walking one does around Disney...

...I should rent a wheelchair, shouldn't I?

I know what YOU are getting for Christmas! Does that answer your question? :santa:

:lmao:

Ha!! I knew it!! :love::dance3::littleangel:

I would definitely rent a wheelchair. If you aren't really walking yet, there is no way you'll be able to walk the distances you need to in WDW. IF you rent one, you can walk some of the day and it's there when you need it. Go to the DISabilities board and you can get a ton of info on renting :goodvibes

Hey guys! Sorry I've been MIA - I can't believe in one month I'll be back home from my trip! We're still hashing out dining, can you believe it? Dh's work decided last week to shut down the week BEFORE the 4th, not the week of. GREAT. But, thanks to DVC points, we got to add a night! Now we are checking in on July 1, for 1 night, at AKL before heading to BLT on the 2nd! Totally excited, because I've always wanted to stay there, and now I have a day to explore! We didn't add a day to parks, so just hanging out at AKL and recovering from teh 12 hour drive!! Going to try to hop in on the planning when I can.

Taking 3 Master's Classes right now, and trying to finish 2 early that are supposed to finish up the week I'm in WDW, so going slightly crazy!

...I should rent a wheelchair, shouldn't I?

I think so too.

I'm actually thinking about renting one for myself. I had a pretty tame bout of pancreatitis a week ago but I'm still feeling a little weak. I'm worried that I can get through the mornings but may not make it too far later in the day. If I wait until I'm tired, there might not be any wheelchairs or ECVs left. We're not sure what to do. :confused3

I am still in and got keychains! If no one else wants to do that, it's fine:love:

I am planning on bringing something, just need to find it!

Hey all!! 29 sleeps!!! :banana::banana::banana:

I think my mission for this week is to try on my shorts and decide if I'm buying new stuff that fits!!

I think I will be buying shorts too - just need to time it right, still trying to lose a few first.

39 days! Finally into the 30's. So close and yet so far away!!! We really need this vacation.

You probably should. We are debating the same thing with DH right now. He had knee surgery at the end of March, had complications which delayed PT. Is doing ok but his abnormal walking put pressure on the neuromas in his feet, so he just had surgery last week to remove a neuroma. He is pretty sore. We still have a month though. Lots of good information on the DISabilities board.

So glad to hear from you, I can understand why things have been crazy with your classes. That is great news about AKL - we went over there last trip just to walk around, it is very peaceful and beautiful. I cannot believe you don't have ADRs yet - that is so not you!!! When you do make them I can add them to the list on page 86.........hang in there!

Check the DISabilities board - I think you would be able to get one from an outside company fairly easily....but it might be good to have one on hand.

Well, that's pretty unanimous! I appear to be the only person who is going "well, maybe not...?" Hee!!

I did read the DISabilities forum and, uh, it was this HUGE weight off my shoulders when I did, since it's aimed for people with life-long disabilities and those of us who float in and out of being too injured or sick for this particular trip. :goodvibes I'm always worried that I'm a fraud for (needing or) using a wheelchair and the forum really made me realize that I'm not... especially as Disney's all about the "if you don't have the stamina, then get a chair."

juliebug1997, I'd say that you may not have the stamina, like me. Like we might be fine on day #1, but how is day #2 going to be? Plus, it's going to be hot, humid, and crowded, which really makes it that much harder.

tinkerbell60, yeah, my calf muscle tears are the result of my knee surgery, so I feel for your husband. If he's limping, at all, he should consider it - that's always been my showstopper. I am still limping and if I am, the week before we go, then it's wheelchair time. It's a vacation not a "make things worse."

(Why can I say it and why is it so hard to live it?!)

My travel agent said she'd arrange one, for me, with an outside company. It's about the same price as Disney, but it would be mine, 24/7 and it would go with me from park to park. Plus, on the nights I'm going to a different resort for dinner, I can leave it behind!

I think I just need to realize that it's okay and no one's going to judge me for using a wheelchair. Or, alternately, if they do, I think that says more about them than it does about me, right?

Thanks, ladies!! :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

Hi everyone! Been subscribing for awhile, just rarely post. Wanted to give you a heads up in case anyone is a touring plans subscriber. I got a notification this morning that they had changed the numbers on several of the parks during my stay as well as recommended parks. Honestly didn't change enough for me to modify my plans, but still worth noting. So you guys may want to double check your dates. They've also added Fantasmic to be 5 nights per week for the most part (that was posted 5/31)

Hope this info helps! Can't believe we're getting so close to our trips!!! :yay:

We are leaving for WL on July 16th to the 24th. All our dinner reservations are made and now the wait! We just have to get a list together of the stuff we are going to need during our days in the park. This is the first summer trip with the baby (18 months old) so we don't really know what to expect. I assume our days in the parks are going to be short and then spend the afternoons at the pool and lounging. We'll spend the nights out to dinner at the various resorts we eat at and then head back to the parks for some night time fun!

Thanks for the heads up! They did add Fantasmic to our DHS day AND they extended the hours by two hours! Hmmm not sure how I feel about that.

For us, it is Me, DH, DD-6 and DS-3

Shall we bring a little something per family though?

I was thinking one per family.

Hey all!! 29 sleeps!!! :banana::banana::banana:

I am trying to find something Scottish and not tacky to bring over for you all!! LOL! I will be successful!

I think my mission for this week is to try on my shorts and decide if I'm buying new stuff that fits!!

mo x

I haven't tried on my shorts yet either, but I did pick up a pair last night at Walmart.

...I should rent a wheelchair, shouldn't I?

Yes, you should!!!!

You should probably rent one too. It is cheaper when renting from an outside company.

You should not feel like a fraud. When my parents came with us a couple of years ago, we rented one for my dad, because of his knee and we knew we would not be able to do all that walking. We did not feel bad about it at all, it made his experience a pleasant one. If he did have one, he would not have been able to do everything that we did.

Welcome!! If you have any ADRs you would like to share we have a list going currently on page 86.....just post them and I will add them on. We also have a DisMeet at Epcot on July 20th at 4pm if you would like to join us. Some of us a bringing a small trinket for each family from our home towns, but that is totally optional.

Ugh...we still don't have a place to stay. :( My family cannot make a decision even though I've given them all of their possible options and we need to book no later than a week from tomorrow.
I hope your Aunt and Uncle make up their mind's soon!
I realize that I am WAY late since there's only like 3 more weeks left but my dd (14) and I will be at the Pop from July 3rd thru July 8th.

We have ADRs at the following-
July 2nd-Wolfgang Puck Cafe in DTD at 9pm
July 3rd-Tomorrowland Terrace Fireworks Dessert Party
July 4th-Mama Melrose's at 4:55pm
July 5th-Les Chefs de France at 7:40pm
July 6th-The Wave at 9:20pm
July 7th-'Ohana at 8:30am
July 8th-The Crystal Palace at 7:25pm

Please stop by and say hello! :)
Hey it's NEVER to late! WELCOME!~
would it be weird to do a rehearsal packing ?
I think I've been doing one of those for a long time now so nope, not weird at all :thumbsup2
We can't have a designated photographer for the 20th, but if we see one wandering around, we can ask him to come and take a pic of us.
Ok then I will keep an eye out for one and flag em down to come take pictures of us!
Not sure if I ever asked to be added to the DISmeet. Unfortunately I have been real busy with work and home and haven't been on in a while. Trying to catch up on all posts and everyone's PTR / TRs...my goodness what you can miss in a couple of days.....pages upon pages.

But anyway I babble. Going back through the posts I missed on this thread I couldn't find the list for the DISmeet on the 20th so I wasn't sure if I was on it. We will be in Epcot that day and would like to be included.

There will probably be 5 of us - -me, my sis, my BFF, my dad and BFF's Dad. The 2 moms and 1 aunt will have the 6 kids this day so the adults can enjoy the Worldshow Case :drinking1

I know there was talk back and forth about bringing trinkets...was anything ever decided on?

Sorry for all of the questions and goinging on and on....btw, we are from New Jersey!:Pinkbounc
Hey! We will get to run into each other 2x on our trip.
Just read that ticket prices are going up on Sunday June 12th - if anyone was thinking about ordering them, now would be a good time......here is the link....

Are we still planning on giving a little keepsake to each family?

I'm still looking for something to bring. The Army is a REALLY big thing here so I hope no one is upset if what I bring has "10th Mountian Division" on it. One per family right? Not one per each person?

I got a reply from my TA about our trip packet..she said that normally they mail them when the trip is 3 weeks out :scared1: But she will send me an email to let me know when it's been shipped out :woohoo: I honestly cannot wait to get my Disney Mail!

Thought I better move this up in the list - here is the current ADR list - if anyone would like to add theirs, just post and I will update the list.

Didn't I run into you outside the Laugh Floor in July 2009? I think it was you...

Well, that's pretty unanimous! I appear to be the only person who is going "well, maybe not...?" Hee!!

I think I just need to realize that it's okay and no one's going to judge me for using a wheelchair. Or, alternately, if they do, I think that says more about them than it does about me, right?

Thanks, ladies!! :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes
I wouldn't worry about anyone judging your need to use a wheelchair. You'll never see those people again, anyway. Do what you need to do to make your trip good for you:)

I think I've been doing one of those for a long time now so nope, not weird at all :thumbsup2
I like rehersal packing:worship:
Ok then I will keep an eye out for one and flag em down to come take pictures of us!

I'm still looking for something to bring. The Army is a REALLY big thing here so I hope no one is upset if what I bring has "10th Mountian Division" on it. One per family right? Not one per each person?

One per family. Whatever you do is fine with me!

This is going to be so fun. I can't wait until it's here already.
I broke down and got some shorts and a couple of shirts with my bd money and gift cards. I was trying to wait until I lost a few, but it's getting too close for me not to be ready. I get too nervous not having everything I need now LOL:rotfl2:

You should not feel like a fraud. When my parents came with us a couple of years ago, we rented one for my dad, because of his knee and we knew we would not be able to do all that walking. We did not feel bad about it at all, it made his experience a pleasant one. If he did have one, he would not have been able to do everything that we did.

I plan to rent a scooter when we are at EPCOT because of my medical issues. I'm usually pretty good about knowing how to take breaks and keep myself from getting too tired out at other places. EPCOT is just too big though, so the scooter will help. I will never feel like a fraud. If anyone wants to tell me I am.... well, whoa to them... lol. :) I would much rather be able to enjoy myself by whatever means I can as opposed to being uncomfortable, overly tired, in pain, and miserable just to please those around me.

At 29, I had to use a walker for almost an entire summer. At 30, I used wheelchairs and scooters many times. Since then, I have no pride where that comes. It's no ones business but mine why I am doing what I am doing. As many have said, there are so many invisible medical issues that people have that it is just plain unfair to judge people. So, for those who are judging, let them be miserable. Enjoy yourself! And, remember, I told you that you get the extra breeze from being in the wheelchair. Anything to help the heat in July is good! :thumbsup2

Thank you for saying this. I was thinking this about myself because I'm just not sure yet.

I don't see why you couldn'T bring something from the army or navy, if it's what is unique to your area. Feel free to bring whatever you want ;)
