July 2011:Calling all planners-Post your dates & Resort

Eeek guys...we hit 9 days today!

Tomorrow we are starting with the cleaning/organizing/errand running, etc that has to be done before a trip.

We are also toying with adding a day and coming down on the second, but we won't know until Thursday after my mom pays bills and checks her budget.

We'll, I'm here! Sadly, my husband is not. His flight was canceled due to mechanical failure. What gets me the most is that we live in DFW, their corporate HQs! He won't be here until close to noon tomorrow and is going to miss the Cape May breakfast that I scheduled just for him. I'm a little upset because I don't know where we'll be able to fit this in later in.

The new meet and greets for the princesses and Mickey and Minnie are awesome though and I've already seen several t-shirts I want. They have some shirts now for Philharmagic and I now DH will want one.

Thanks for sharing!

I am glad to hear that the new M&Gs are awesome. The news about your DH's flight sucks though. I'm sorry.

hehe you are not helping my procrastinating!!!

We have never seen ANY of the POTC movies! Crazy huh? Are they all appropriate for kiddos? Is it like the fighting scenes in Hook, no blood or anything? My duaghter is a bit of a scaredy cat .... we don't really let her watch anything too out there ...

We had them, but dd and I had never seen any of them. She's kind of a scaredy cat, too and did the whole 'watch with a blanket to pull over my face' method of watching some parts. But she watched them all and loved them all. There was not much blood or anything, but there were ghosts and a few pirates get killed...that's where the bit of blood came in. When it happend now and then. It wasn't they whole movie or anything. Mostly you didn't see it happen.

Awww...that's terrible :( Do you have any other breakfasts you can cancel to do Cape May or not really. I know if we missed it, we had a few days with no scheduled breakfasts that we could try to squeeze it into.

I'm sure you will have a fantastic time, regardless of the bumps in the road. It will work out.

Glad to hear about the new meet and greets, I can not wait to see how that works with the fast pass.

I didn't need the FP--even with the rain, the waits were 15 for the princesses and 10 minutes for Mickey and Minnie!!!

I forgot ! I could see the new castle in Fantasyland off in the distance.

I don't know if we'll be able to reschedule or not. We like breakfast and I already changed CP so I could make the Tangled m&g.

Yay you are there! Booo your husband isn't. Hopefully things will work out in the end!

I look forward to some of the info you have to share about your trip. It gets me all the more excited for my trip! :cheer2:

Sorry to hear this. The best advice I can give you is to enjoy it the best you can and make the best of things when your hubby gets there. I've been trying to give my son the same advice. He's 19 and away at Air Force tech school. He'll be there until this fall, when he leaves for Korea. He sometimes dwells on the activites he's missing, like his sister's graduation, other holidays, even our upcoming Disney trip. I've tried to explain to him that over a lifetime, you do miss some important dates, but as long as you make the best of the time you do have together, those are the memories you should keep.

If all goes well, you guys should have a great vacation together. Concentrate on those good times. Let the rest slide. In the grand scheme of things, there are much greater tragedies. I hope you guys have a great rest of your trip!

Ohh... I love Philharmagic. I'll have to look for that one! So sorry about your DH, that totally stinks!

We had them, but dd and I had never seen any of them. She's kind of a scaredy cat, too and did the whole 'watch with a blanket to pull over my face' method of watching some parts..
I've never watched any of them either! DH and DD1 have, DD2 is still kind of on the fence about pirates, I'm afraid it would send her over the edge!

I didn't need the FP--even with the rain, the waits were 15 for the princesses and 10 minutes for Mickey and Minnie!!!

Too exciting about the M&Gs and castle. Did you read on Theme Parks that Flynn is leaving Tangled on July 3? Get that one in early if you want to see him. So is Naveen. :sad2:

That is my dilemma, too. I did it last time and it worked except I didn't get my requests. This time I don't have any requests but am secretly hoping for some magic because I did note on our reservation that it is our 20th.
I've just about decided that for us, a few hours later for room ready is worth the chance for a better view. It seems like online gets you in quicker, but not necessarily in the best rooms. I think they take it to mean you are in a hurry to get your room if you do online, but we always get to WDW really early (6 or 7) after driving all night, and tell them we'll wait for the view we want.
Okay.. today was a "Disney day".
With the package I booked I was supposed to get a $25 gift card and a Disney Carry on luggage. I did not get these. Boooo.... I felt bad bothering this TA because she was just filling in for mine. But, she did find out that I get the GC at check in.
So glad you'll still get your GC, too bad about the carry on, but if you don't need it for this trip, ITA, small snag! You're going to Disney World!

Ok, this is the response I got from my TA about my Mickey mail on the 22nd"No worries, I actually checked on it yesterday and it shipped to me Monday, so expect to receive it today or tomorrow! DH is certainly deserving of the R&R, glad you are able to make it happen!"I found a friend to bring my garbage can into my garage the day we arrive @ my mom's house But I found out that the lid to my cooler is now missing so I get to buy a new one of those on the first. I feel like I'm forgetting something but I'm not sure what
Maybe it will be there tomorrow, which I guess is today now. :rotfl: Glad you got your trash taken care of. As for forgetting something, I'll share some of the stuff I have done/need to do maybe it will trip your memory: scheduled USPS to hold mail, paid bills due while we're gone, pet sitting, charge camera and video camera batteries, check and dump memory cards, get small bills for tipping, fill up gas tank, give our cell and my father-in-law's phone number to next door neighbors and alert them about being gone, call CC and debit card co. to let them know we'll be using the cards in WDW, and on the way down, start drinking extra water, ;). Double check park times and ADRs and print everything out, send those docs to phones and itouches. That's just some of it. I have a HUGE list I need to accomplish! Don't know how many electronics that need charging you are taking, but we always take a power strip to plug them all into.

I have done it and it was fine, but when I have not, it did not seem to matter much. I do not think I am doing it this year, because I am worried about our room location. DH is still having a hard time walking and I would like a room close to the elevators......so in case we have to change it. I also want to have our park tickets removed from our room key so we can upgrade to APs..........
I agree totally with you. Seems like it helps to get room early, but it might not be where you want. How exciting that you are getting AP's!

Watched Hook with my daughter Anyway my daughter LOVED it! I am so happy because I love that movie!!!! PS I have nothing else I can really do to get ready and it is bugging me ... ok well I could clean more ... but I much prefer to procrastinate on that one
When does your DH get in? I've never seen Hook either. :confused3 I have sooo much to do, I am starting to stress a bit. Well, a lot! Speaking of cleaning, I feel the need for my house to look it's best when I leave. Why is that? I'm not worried about how it looks now. AND, the last thing I do before hugging my dogs goodbye is put pine sol in the toilets so the house smells better.

1 more assignment done!:dance3: Just one more stands between me and packing and getting ready! Still no DVD player. DH is off until we leave next Thursday, so he can help. Hopefully. He worked on the SUV yesterday, deemed it okay to drive, so that's settled. I keep having this sense of impending doom, and I know it's the OCD me that feels the least prepared for this trip. I'm usually packed by now, and I don't even have a clue what clothes anyone is wearing! :scared1: In fact, I'm not even sure how much:laundy: needs to be done! Any extra time I have, I feel like I am cramming for a test and trying to learn all the stuff I've missed out on here, like I didn't even know HM had a new queue????? Oh well. In a week, I will have spent my first night there, and will hopefully be sitting on my laptop looking at giraffes before heading over to BLT to look at my castle! So I'd better get it done!!!

Hey guys, I'll be updating this in my PTR but I thought I'd post here as well since I've gotten to know some of you ladies and ... well ... it's news.

If you have not read my PTR, that's okay, I'll give you some back story:
My grammy is battling cancer, she had it once before, beat it and it came back about 3 years later. I wanted to take my grammy on a cruise, as it was a lifelong dream, but all times we've tried (3 now, one we actually had it paid for already), we had to cancel or postpone due to tests and Chemo.
With the money we were going to use for her cruise, we used to go to Europe for Spring Break. We documented EVERYTHING ... including the Mona Lisa ^_^ She loved it, it was like she was there with us :)
Well now, on this trip (again, money we would have used as her cruise), we are doing the same, as grammy has never been to WDW.

The news is this: My grammy is dying. I've known this since fall of last year, but we didn't know when. Today I just found out that they are moving my Grammy out of testing and into 'Quality of Life'.
This means they will be stopping her Chemo after 3 months ... at the latest. After Chemo is done, my grammy will not last long.

I just wanted to share this as she is my last living grandparent and has really been the only one I've grown up with.

If I may ask; please send my grammy prayers, or well wishes.

Thank you.

Aw.. sending so many prayers your way. I lost my Daddy 2 months after my girls' first trip to WDW. He put off his surgery to remove his remaining kidney bc of cancer b/c he wanted his girls to see the Mouse without worries.. Turns out, his body couldnt' handle post-op dialysis, and he never left the hospital in Sept. Last year, we went back to WDW on Father's Day, I just didn't want to be anywhere near home, and it was bittersweet. There is a sweet wishing tree outside of Y&Y in AK that my oldest DD had wished on... last year she cried when she saw it b/c her wish didn't come true. But in a way, mine did. I prayed for healing at the tree, and while the answer wasn't in the form I wanted, he's all better now. I'm not, but he is. Point being, enjoy your trip, the memories will last forever. Take some special pictures, do something to celebrate her life. Find the tree, throw a coin in a well, buy a kid a balloon, buy a picture frame, take a picture with Mickey and ask him to hold a sign that says Love You Grammy to give her, I'm sure lots of things will be bittersweet, but try your best to enjoy it!

Amunet,
I'm sorry about your grandmother. I'll be thinking about your family during this time.

I read that last night and I think I'm going to try to fit this in much earlier. I got DH and I Tangled shirts. His says "She got the smolder." Mine says, "I fell for the smolder.". We've got 1900 for breakfast tomorrow so I think we'll get in line for them then. I've got my little hand written fast pass so I'm going to see if that we'll get us anywhere. It says July 4th but we can't miss Flynn with her. PS: the only reason I got this was because the day we left for our cruise, we ran over specifically for this. Well, there were some issues (people were really rude but I found that using honey worked pretty well). A manager type was giving everyone handwritten notes and I said that we were leaving and could he put on there for use on July 4th. Well, he did and I held on to it. The worst they can say is no and I wait in line for hours and we miss our reservation for lunch at Tony's.

 I'm so sorry. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. My grandma raised me and the end of Feb. we found out she had cancer. A few days later they found out it had spread throughout her body and moved her to Hospice. She passed away 10 days later. She took me to Disney for the first time when I was in high school and then we took her in 2001. Our spring break trip the end of March was a healing/remembrance trip. It has been almost 4 months and I still miss her everyday. If you need to vent or talk, please feel free to contact me. Everyday is a gift.

So sorry to hear that your husbands arrival was delayed. Hopefully you can make up that Cape May breakfast, but I am sure you will have fun no matter what even with this hiccup. Thanks so much for posting - I appreciate the live report!!!

Too exciting about the M&Gs and castle. Did you read on Theme Parks that Flynn is leaving Tangled on July 3? Get that one in early if you want to see him. So is Naveen. :sad2:

That is such a bummer about Flynn and Naveen - WHY???????

I agree - waiting for the room you want is worth it. Back in 2005, bunk beds were a request only at WL - we had done a split stay at the CR and were ready to check in at 10 am......well, there were "maintenance issues" and we were offered another room. We ended up waiting till 7pm that night (went over to Epcot and just enjoyed the day) but got our bunk beds AND the exact room we had on our wish list - which was the room we had the previous trip. It was well worth the wait.

We will not be getting there till afternoon this time, I had them note on the ressie that DH just had knee surgery, I hope that helps with our location request. I am not planning on on-line check in at this point. We do APs every other year - since we usually do 2 weeks, it really is cheaper. That is why we are later in July this year, next summer we will go late June/early July.

You are getting so close! All will get done and you will be there so soon!!!

Yeah I looked it up and saw it was rated PG - 13 so that is a no go for now... I may try and get the first one to watch though (from Netflix) ... I need to see what all the fuss is about LOL

Great advice! We miss a LOT of 'important' days together with my hubby being in the Army ... but when he is home we try and live it up and celebrate all the things we missed ... it is hard but it is doable.

When does your DH get in? I've never seen Hook either. :confused3 I have sooo much to do, I am starting to stress a bit. Well, a lot! Hook is awesome! I really love it! My hubby *should* be home on the 30th... not holding my breath because it IS the military ;) But if all goes perfect he should be. Hoping no sand storms or anything like that hold him up.... but we don't leave for Disney until the 5th, so we have wiggle room as far as the trip. If he gets in later than the 30th, they just tack on dates on the end of his R&R.

Thank you.
So sorry to hear this and will be praying for you and your family. My grandfather lost his battle with cancer in June 2010 after going through treatments and chemo for almost
4 years.

Well I'm done with my 7 goody bags. Now I'm off to create the "flag".
Maybe there should be a black Mickey Head in the center so you don't get confused with the BTG's?
hehe you are not helping my procrastinating!!!

We have never seen ANY of the POTC movies! Crazy huh? Are they all appropriate for kiddos? Is it like the fighting scenes in Hook, no blood or anything? My duaghter is a bit of a scaredy cat .... we don't really let her watch anything too out there ...

We own all 3 of these (well at least the one's that are on DVD) and the last one had the most blood IMO. All were exciting with lots of sword fighting.

Sorry that your DH's flight got delayed. :sad1:

Aww sweetie :hug: I lost my DFIL almost 3 year's ago to cancer. I will keep both your Grammy and you in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Flipflopmom~ I went through the list of thing's you had done so far and kept going "yep, done that, did that." I know I have the items for the DISmeet to make and get going, I have to take my cat's to the vet for shots on the first, make sure my house is clean, drag the garbage can to the curb along with my recycling bags, make sure all my light's are turned off, make sure to pack my cell charger. I have my camera charger and a good sized memory card (I might buy an extra one in VA before I leave my mom's house). I know I need to buy some Hershey bar's before we get on the plane (I so plan on doing the camp fire sing a long @ FW), sunglasses for DH. I put in a request to stop the mail though, told the leasing office the dates I would be gone till.

Khokhonutt~We too are a Military family and are all to familiar with missing dates that happen in life (Birthday's, Christmas, Thanksgiving, ect.) We realize that this is part of the life DH signed up for and although we do miss him during those times, when he get's home we move forward and keep on going. That's all we can do.
