July 2010 Check-In

 I will gladly except any good thoughts that can be mustered my direction!

I am determined to find a way to make this work. I just get very very nervous whenever I remember the laundry list of things I need to pay for now that my car loan is paid in full (tune up :sad2:, new tires , tax payment :scared1:). I keep trying to talk myself into the fact that now that my car is paid off that's an extra $213 a month so anything I spend I can save back up a touch faster, but I was looking forward to doing this trip without touching a penny in my savings.

Think happy thoughts! Think happy thoughts!

So, enough of my problems! Everyone doing OK?

I'm also thinking happy thoughts for you! :dance3:

I've just now finalised our itinerary, and the price has gone up a bit from my last summarisation! :scared1: Just hoping that the exchange rate may improve a bit before we go, it's only around 1.50 at the moment, that's a bit change from when it was nearer to 2.00! I have told myself no more changing of dates, as it was doing my head in, lol, so have cancelled all my 'back up' dates and it's now there in black and white, just need to keep saving hard! :rotfl:

I'm doing ok...but still only in a premium room at Hojo...really really really want a suite. So...we haven't booked flights yet and are hoping something opens up. I do have a kids suite booked July 30-August 5 so are thinking of pushing our trip back 2 weeks. Although, I'd rather go around the 20-29th of July so will keep checking rooms with Hojo. A thread on the all-star game got me nervous...not so much about Disneyland...but about other things like transportation and restaurants being crazy so I don't think we'll go with our original plans. My poor husband is going to kill me...he has already booked holidays and needs to change them again!

Well our first two days are the last two days of the all star game, but hopefully we will survive, lol, we are there for 5 nights so should have time to fit it all in and hoping the crowds ease off later in the week. :rotfl2:

 It's been a rather disappointing couple of days. I'll jump back in here later this evening or tomorrow lunch after breakfast with the bestie who I am still trying to talk back into Disneyland.

BUT if you haven't already heard (and haven't puchased your tickets yet) keep in mind that the summer ticket promotion running from May to about September 26 (I think, can't remember for sure) is 5 days for the price of 3! So that's 2 free days with the purchase of a 3 (which would give you 5) or 4 (which would give you 6) day Park Hoppers!

It's a step in the right direction for me. I just have to wait for my Credit Union to announce what they'll be selling the PH for, which is usually $15-$20 cheaper than what they list online.

Oh thanks for that, that will save us $50 on two tickets! A little bit more to spend in the Disney shops now! :rotfl:

Changed my reservation yesterday! Instead of staying at HoJos's we will now be at Paradise Pier. Same dates, arriving 7/24 & leaving 8/1. We did the 5 day package and then added 3 days room only using the 30% off Getaway rate. Very happy! :cloud9:

Can I ask, price wise, how the two compared?

We're booked at Hojo in a kids suite for July 30-August 6...and aren't sure if we should just stay there or move to a Disney hotel. What would you guys do?

:)

:rotfl: That's exactly how I see it as well! Well, that and confident that it might do a little good in the convincing of my friend to go with me. It doesn't make much of a difference if I were going by myself since at most I'll be ther4 days unless we leave early on the 14th and get there in time to still do the parks. And I'll have my handy-dandy GAD voucher!

:cool1:

Now c'mon HoJo!

I am now green with envy, lol. I would love to stay on site, but alas, it will not be happening anytime soon.

It actually ends up being about $600 more for us to stay at Paradise Pier than at HoJos. But part of our trip is a package due in June and the room only is due upon check-in which works better for us budget-wise. And we are used to WDW packages so this is still less than what we paid to go there last December! :) Couldn't justify the full price costs but with the discounts, we can make it work.

That's what I thought as well! Lovin' the summer discounts! This is probably our one and only trip out West so I am happy it worked out this way! Hoping your trip comes together for you as well! Sending much pixie dust! :wizard:

I really want to book a vacation to DL for my DDs 13th birthday. But I am so worried about the crowds and heat. We lived in CA in 2007 and went to DL in May and December but JUly:scared1:
My DH (really stressing the Dear right now) says just book it and we will worry about the heat later. SHe only becomes a teenager once and since she still likes us:laughing: we should do it! I am really loving that man right now!

So anyway we are military so I was looking for a deal there:confused3 Still hoping HOJO adds and ent. rate. We really liked HOJO the last time we went. Anyone know any good deals to save some money PLEASE dish!!!

What are the crowds like around the 17-? Not sure how long we will be able to stay since DH will need to get back to work
I am so excited but a little nervous too!!:dance3:

Can anyone else believe that March is already halfway over? Soon we'll be one month closer to July. That's just crazy. My trip should be 120 days away. At least it's getting closer to being double digits. I'm going to get started on a countdown of some kind in the near future. Last March I made this awesome calendar using those mickey mouse head paint chips from Home Depot that counted down the final month to departure. I'm thinking of doing something similar or taking a page from one of my fellow TR-addicts book and doing a paper chain including some awesome quotes from Disney movies.

Decisions, decisions. I may want to get a head start on it, either way.

I know there are military discounts that go around, and I found this:

Military Discounts: Active duty, Reserve, National Guard, Retired, and DOD employees can buy Disneyland discount tickets, with the amount depending on the time of year. Check with your base MWR for information. Bring your military ID to show at the gate.

Hopefully they'll have something for this summer for you. I never get too concerned over the heat. I'm a California-Summer-lover :lmao: I'm used to the heat although it's a little different from where I love. But I prefer a hot day to a warm or cool day. I think as long as you all stay hydrated, the heat should be OK. And there are lots of things to do that take you out of the heat at least for a little while, not to mention the beloved pool at the hotel!

I haven't been to DL in July since before they started the SoCal AP's (which will be blocked out) which my understanding has impacted the summer crowds. :confused3

I wish I knew more!

We used the MWR tickets last time we went and that helped with saving! We are looking into a move to Portland this summer and won't be near a base so I need to get moving if we are going to do this!! THANKS!!

Let me be the first to welcome you to Oregon!!! (ok, I know you're not here yet....lol)
Hopefully you can find something for the military discount!!!

Okay add us to the July list!! I didn't want to post until we paid the deposit. Now it feels real. We will be there July 9th - July 17th. We are staying at the Best Western Park Place Inn for the first 5 days and then moving to Paradise Pier for the last 3 days. We have 4 day park hoppers and we'll be celebrating DD's 11th b-day while we're there. This will be our first trip to DLR as a family. I was there about 23 years ago and once before that when I was 6 but this feels like the first time. We're open for any advice on meals and excursions. There will be 4 of us: me, DH, DD10-11, and DS9. Can't wait!

:banana: Exciting!! We're you planning on doing any character meals? Those are my absolute favorite (or tied with me usual BB meal since a trip doesn't feel complete to me without it). Too bad I may have to scrimp on those due to budget concerns this time around.

Prices have also gone down if you are booking with any of the three Disney Hotels. With the new prices, we are now staying at the GCH for $100 less than what it was going to cost at DLH. I can't wait! :yay:

Aw, how that makes me wish I could afford to stay on site. Too bad my friend will only be going if I can make this trip dirt cheap. Sigh.

Got your info changed though!

We will ber at DL July 19-22, staying at the GCH. I just made my final payment this morning. It feels good to have that taken care of! I'll be taking my DD, 14 and DS, 7. Her 4th time and his 2nd.

Looking forward to using our GAD fastpasses! Thanks Belle Ella for keeping track of all this! I hope you get to go.
