July 13, 2008 - Cruisin' the Mexican Riviera

Hi Fun in the Sun. We are from Ladera Ranch. We have an 11 year old DD who just finished up at Chaparral this week. Where does your DS go to school?

Hi all! We are very excited that the cruise is now less than 4 weeks away. I finished DD's pirate costume, and her princess costume is hanging up ready to be packed. (I have had to hide it because she wants to wear it constantly!) Question for everybody: Is anyone worried about the weather? I keep reading on the trip reports that it is cold at sea, and not really very nice weather in port. Anyone hear anything else?
Also wanted to give everyone a tip about pirate hats. I wanted a pink pirate hat for DD's costume, I know- not very piratey, but anyway, all of the pirate hats I found online were $20 or more. As I didn't want to pay that much, I went to Michael's to see what I could come up with. I found a pink foam cowboy hat for around $2. If you staple the sides into a tricorn shape it looks like a pirate hat. I, of course, had to add some embellishments, ribbon, etc, but it is very cute and didn't cost very much. Now I just have to figure out what DH & I will wear.

See everyone soon!:hyper:

Haven't seen many posts on the Princess thread. My daiughter was on there the other day and put a message on there. We are from Orange County. It is VERY HOT right now out here!! 104 degrees today. We have decided to do the Dolphin Swim in PV. We have been to Cabo many times as my parents have a time share just down from The Office( a resturant on the beach). So we are planning on going there and eating at some of our favorite spots. I must be honest with you all. Since we found this site, we are on it ALL THE TIME!!!! I need this vacation so I can get my mind off of the Lakers disaster against the Celtics:furious: Get the Princesses posting on the thread so they all have friends to look forward to meeting. We are so close!!!!

Hey, Crazy Coach, we are from the OC, too! We are in Orange...way hot right now, isn't it?

We have a 10 yr old niece and 12 year old DD going on the cruise. I will let them know about the princess thread.

Hello Fellow Cruisers!

I'm thrilled to announce that we currently have 18 families participating in our Fish Extender Gift Exchange during the cruise! :woohoo: I know many of you are working hard on the gifts you're bringing to share! :goodvibes

So, if you're thinking about joining in on the fun, let me know as soon as possible. I'll need your names, ages of the kids, and cabin number. You can either post the information on this thread or by sending me a private message (by clicking on my DIS name). :) I'll send out the latest update by private message on Sunday afternoon!

See you all SOON!!! :hyper:

Hello everyone,
This seems to be quite an active thead. We booked this cruise over a year ago when we on our last Disney Cruise and then cancelled it in May (we pushed it off to Christmas 2008.) Now all of a sudden we are talking about doing it again. We didn't have any other plans- we were thinking maybe a New York, Boston, Maine trip, but of course that would take lots of planning and we just didn't really get our act together. So yesterday my husband said why don't we just go ahead with the cruise. My daughters (12 and 14) went crazy! They just can't stop talking about it.
There are just the four of us but my 14 year olds best friend is going with her family. This is the second time we will cruise with them. It will be our 6th Disney Cruise (3 on the Magic and 2 on the Wonder) as once you start we just can't seem to stop.
We live in the western suburbs of Chicago and have not been on a cruise leaving from CA yet. This is part of the appeal for us-something new.
I am going back over the boards to see about some of the excursions (not even sure what will be available) but I have typically found that excursions are a let down.

That is so awesome, how do you make those? I am leaving in one week from today and I want one of those. Sorry I busted in on your thread, ours is boring and I am looking for Navigators.

Welcome back onboard! I remember you posting quite a while ago that you were undecided. I can totally understand why your girls went crazy! :) A Disney cruise is SO MUCH FUN! :woohoo: Please be sure to let me know if you want to participate in the Fish Extender Gift Exchange. And also, we're having a quick DIS Meet the day of embarkation between the 3pm Lifeboat Drill and the 4pm Sail Away Party at Topsider's outdoor tables (at the very back of the ship). Since you've cruised several times already, you probably know that you can easily get there without going through the inside of Topsiders by walking around the starboard side of the ship, past Goofy's Galley and Scoops. It will be a fairly quick meet - starting immediately after the Lifeboat Drill, so that everyone can get to Goofy's Pool by the 4pm Sail Away Party. pirate:

Hi Kay! Yes, we were on the same cruise! I remember you had quite an extended family traveling with you! HawaiianMickey comes to mind. :) That truly was a fabulous time. I'm hoping DCL will head out that way again!

That's so cool you remember us, we are all the same crew going again, this time we have 3 more children going and a couple in-laws. I can't believe we leave in one week. I miss the ship and all the great meals. Have always wanted to visit the mexican riviera too. Remind me who you are, I'm terrible at names but great with faces and events. I'm sure we met at the dis-meet.

Kay, I'll PM you so we don't end up hijacking this thread. ;)

I just read the thread on the Cruise Line Forum where someone asked if people are dressing up for Pirate Night during the West Coast Cruises:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1861226

Just wondering...are any of you planning on dressing up in pirate gear? In just pirate-themed t-shirts? Or not doing anything at all?

Our family will be dressing up... :)

I "hope" my family is dressing up at least a little bit. When my daughter, my mom, and I went on our first Disney cruise, my daughter had a pirate outfit complete with a parrot on her shoulder (she was 11 at the time). I wore a puffy shirt and accessorized as a pirate. But that was 2 years ago and now at 13 years old I'm not sure if my daughter will want to dress up or not. I'm hoping to at least get her to do a little something piratey so I don't have to be alone in our family (my husband will probably only wear a pirate t-shirt if I get him one).

Is the princess thread working? Can someone post the link again?
