Hello fellow WISHER's! I am a CB regular but was pointed this way because I posted a thread about running the Disney 1/2 Marathon in January 2011. My motivation: Getting to go to Disney! DBF really doen'st care for it much but we seemed to have bribed each other...me getting him to Disney and him getting me to run.

I realize my motivation should be more than just a trip to Disney. However, as I told DBF, if this is what it takes to get me started then it will have to do for now. Hopefully once I start training it will become a fun challenge and I will actually enjoy running. My DD is a huge part of my motivation. She runs atleast a mile every day. Yesterday she went running twice. The second time because she said she was stressed.

We have decided to follow the 5K training program on Hal Higdon's site. It is an 8 week program which is perfect for us. It will take 56 days to complete this program and we leave for a 2 week Scandinavian Vacation in 58 days. It couldn't have worked out better. Training starts TONIGHT!

In addition to running, we are going to seriously start eating better. We had been trying but not really trying, kwim? Yesterday we went to the store and 1/2 of our cart was fresh fruits and veggies. Usually when I buy them they just rot in the fridge, but this time I washed and cut up EVERYTHING last night. I have a baggie of cucumbers, green peppers and strawberrys for snacking today.

I hope to lose about 50lbs, get in shape, be healthy and complete a 1/2 marathon!

I am excited about my new journey!

:wave2:. Found it.

Good luck getting ready for the race. Once you are up to a 5K I would recommend signing up for a local race. Crossing a finish line is a very motivating experience and it is what got me hooked on running.

Hi, FireDancer! :) I thought I was going to be talking to myself. lol I'm used to the CB where people post, and post and post. Its a little slower over here. lol

Ok, I thought I was going to use Hal's program but I found information on the C25K program. Now I'm not so sure. :confused3

This is a slower moving board because there are less people. A thread will stall for a few days and then get 2 pages in an hour. If is a very different dynamic then the CB because it is a bit more focused.

I think they can be used together really well. Use the C25K to get up to finishing a 5K and you can then jump to the beginning half marathon program from Hal.

Copied from the CB

We decided to start with the C25K program until we go to Europe. Timing is perfect. It takes 56 days, we leave in 57 (we started yesterday). Last night was strength training. Tonight was supposed to be the first run but rain has spoiled our plans so we will do lower body strength training then run tomorrow.

Here's this weeks' plan:

Monday - upper body
Tuesday - lower body
Wednesday - workout run1
Thursday - off (I have a hair appointment and it is eat out night)
Friday - workout run 2
Saturday - off
Sunday - workout run 3

Next week will be normal.

Monday - upper body
Tuesday - workout run 1
Wednesday - lower body
Thursday - workout run 2
Friday - off
Saturday - workout run 3
Sunday - off

I'm actually disappointed that I don't get to start actually running tonight. I never thought I would say that.

Before you ask - I'm afraid to run on a treadmill at the gym. Walking is ok, running is not.

When we return from Europe we will do the 12 Week Half Marathon training. Run for fun for a month or so along with our regular gym routine then pick it back up in preparation for the marathon. Waaahooo!

I can't believe I am actually excited for this. I guess Disney bribes do work. ;)

Good for you guys! :thumbsup2 That's awesome about the timing of your trip and training. I'm hoping to lose about 50lbs, too, and have considered doing the C25k program. You'll have to report back after your first day and say how it went - I think I just need a liiiittle more motivation before I talk myself into it, haha. :goodvibes

I start running TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!

W1D1 - 60 sec run; 90 sec walk, repeat 8 times.
