Journey back to ME!!- I'm getting bugged!!

How is your journaling going. When I did WW that was the hardest thing for me to do. I did better if I wrote it down right before I ate or right after. I was less likely to binge if I wrote it down quick.
Hope today is great for you!

Hi Julie
Did you get your swim in??
Your exercise is going great :)
Hope the coughs cleared up!

Hi Julie,

I wanted to stop by and say hello. I made a post on your commitment to journaling thread and wanted you to know you inspired me! I started journaling again on Monday and was worried that I would give up on it even though I was so successful in the past when I journaled everyday but your thread gives me encouragement and hope! I'll try to post to it daily. Having the support from you and other gals on that thread will definitely help me to keep journaling and be successful.

You are a swimmer, huh? It sounds like a fun way to get in your exercise. Good for you! Take care and I'll be stopping back by again soon.

Thanks for stopping in, Lisa! A swimmer?? Well, I wouldn't exactly say that! I simply discovered that when I go to the gym and to Stair machine, TM, bike, weights, etc., I'm constantly thinking about whatever else I need to get done, life problems, etc. But, when I swim, I have to concentrate so hard on not drowning that I can actually relax my mind. Thus, I try to swim about 3x/week. I'm really not sure how good it is as exercise, but I'm finding I enjoy it.

This morning I started the transition from winter to summer clothes - everything I could reach. Sadly, not too much is too big to put back for next fall. But it WILL be when I transition again (won't it??)

Yesterday I finally bit the bullet and sent DH an email asking if he wants to do anything for our 25th anniversary in May. Despite getting emails from him about paying for his ebay auction, DS20 ebay auction, his RX and other issues and a couple of phone calls, he did not mention it. So, I take that as a 'no'. He's definitely not the type to plan something on his own, and if he planned a trip it would cost at least double what I could get it for, so...... Anyway, I'm not surprised, but I did need to know.

3/7 - Day 3/108 -

Slimfast(6)
1" cube of gingerbread(1)
48.9 oz propel(0)
ham(2)
fiber cake(1)
60 oz decaf green tea(0)
2 meringue cookies(1)
15 ls pb pretzels(3)
ff string cheese(1)

I'm about to leave to take the pups for a walk in their stroller as the weather is finally warm enough for them. I won't be walking very fast, but I'm going to be pushing the dogs so that has to account for something, especially with the hills.

Just back. I did 3.1 mi in 45:44. (Love the Garmin even though I really haven't learned how to use it!) Faster than I thought given all the hills. The last .25 is a VERY steep hill. And for about .5 mile I was going into a headwind, slightly uphill. I could barely stand & my hair is full of sand. I had to stop once to detangle a tumbleweed from the stroller! UGH!!

Hi Julie, next fall those clothes will all be too big I am sure! Glad spring is arriving out your way, we are warm too but I think its just a tease before more snow hits! As for your 25th, maybe you should just plan something on your own and if dh isn't interested, take a friend or your sister? Some men just don't know how to celebrate life enough so you have to do it for you! Keep up your hard work, your swimming is awesome.

Hi Julie, Thanks for starting the journaling thread! It really is a wonderful to stay accountable.I've read a few of your recent posts about swimming. I keep toying with the idea of joining a local co-ed gym that has a pool, but that's as far as it goes. Right now I go to Curves, but I really need more variety as I get bored very easily. Do you combine your swimming with other workouts, or do different exercises on different days? I'm alway curious to learn about what type of workouts "work" for other Wishers.

Thanks for posting on my journal! I really appreciate it when someone takes the time to post. Denise

You are doing a great job Julie! Keep up the good work!:cheer2:

I am sending some :wizard: your way for your 25th anniversary celebration... If you were to book everything, would he go along with it? Twenty five years together is a long time... You should celebrate! party:

Hope you have a great day!

Amy, I sure hope at least some of those clothes are too big by fall! I pulled down the spring summer clothes & so far a few that I couldn't wear, I can. I buy mostly at a thrift store (by choice) when it's $1 day, so I have quite a variety of sizes. If I see Liz jeans w/ tags on them for $1 in the next size down, I buy them!

Denise, I'm really liking the swimming, but not sure how much of a workout it is - I figure it must be pretty good since it gets my heart rate up & moves a lot of muscles, but don't really know. I do a pattern of 9 lengths over & over - kickboard, breast, back, kickboard, water run forward, water run backward, kickboard, crawl, back..... When I first started, I could barely breathe when I finished the crawl length, & now it's much easier & I'm going quicker. I figure keeping moving is the key! I really don't have a pattern. Ideally, I'd swim every other day & do my 'gym' workout - 15 - 20 min on stairs, 30 - 45 min TM, then weights on the other days. Unfortunately, life gets in the way & sometimes, the gym or pool are just too busy. With the weather warming up, I'll probably do a lot more walking outside as I'm REALLY treadmill challenged! I thought about curves, too, but decided for the same money I needed variety, plus now my DD goes a bunch - even without me! (Probably to check out hot guys with her friend, but at least she's exercising!)

Yep, Tracy, 25 years is a long time! I find myself thinking of the Fiddler on the Roof lines - "For 25 years I've lived with him, fought with him, starved with him. For 25 years my bed is his, if that's not love, what is?" Then she concludes "Maybe it's indigestion!". And sometimes, that is what marriage feels like, doesn't it?? If I plan something without his ok, there's no telling his reaction - maybe Ok, maybe not. Plus, he is going to be having to do a lot of work travel the 2nd 1/2 of the year & a bit before, but noone knows exactly when/where/how long yet & it will be travel he can't back out on.

So, Confession time.......

I'm not making WW WI today as I have to take DS20 to the dentist (hoping & praying he doesn't need 8 more fillings this year!), and he got called into work besides, so more running. And on my kitchen counter are 3 blueberry cream scones from Trader Joes. Scones are my weakness & I've been avoiding them like the plague. So, this little demon inside tells me I won't weigh in until next week, I can eat them, ALL of them! Then the little angel peeps in & tells me NO  So, I took a small bite, decided they really weren't the best (which I had decided when I first bought them) and marched out to the trash can outside & deposited them! No one else here will eat them and they aren't worth the points!

3/8 - Day 4/108 - a day of the munchies!!!

1 BITE of scone(1)
egg beaters(1)
banana peppers(0)
ff cheese(.5)
fiber cake(1) - apple cranberry is OK but won't buy again - just blueberry
2 FF hot dogs(2)
1 lt bun(1)
sm bag chips(3)
1 -yes ONE McD french Fry (and I'm not adding a point since the sm scone bite wasn't a full point)
2 sf blue raspberry lollies from the dentist office
2 bags baked chips(4)
ham(1)
ff string cheese(1)
chocolate(6)
2 meringue cookies(2)

DS17 just reminded me we needed to buy the spray for license plates that blocks the red light cameras from working. $30 is worth the investment here as they are all over & are new & VERY innacurate. Plus, half the time, the people aren't getting their fines in the mail & are getting arrested for non-payment. In 6 months it has generated over $6 MILLION for the city & so far no one can account for what it is being spent on! Scandal time!

I need to finish going thru closet clothes today, help DS17 get some school submitted, do the running with DS20 & a couple loads of laundry. Then EBAY needs some attention. I may surf vacation sites again.

It was REALLY tempting to book the May med repo cruise - if only I didn't have to deal with DD & School! Right now 3 & 4th person are $99. Sigh......

Off to get things done! And NO scones to tempt me!

Almost finished the hanging clothes. Took DS20 to dentist, No cavities. Dropped 2 ebay pkgs at post office. Picked up McD for the DSs. Made sure I had a sf lolly in my mouth so I wasn't tempted to munch. Had ONE fry & got my need for taste out of the way. YEAH!!!!

DH finally, sort of , responded about anniversary, but I'll put that in it's own post. OMG it is almost so pathetic it's hilarious!

Do tell what his resonse was, the suspense is killing me!

So glad ds didn't need any more fillings. And VERY GREAT JOB throwing out thoe scones! You are right, who needs the points?

That is great that some of those formerly too tight clothes fit now. That is a nice, concrete reminder of how far you have come!

Ok, let me give some background. Wednesday night DH got home from work a bit late - not bad. Complained he wasn't feeling well - tired, run down. A bit before 9, he was already in bed when DS20 came in & needed a ride. DH said he was "Too Old" to be getting up in the "middle of the night" like this & that I needed to run DS20 (10 min away). OOOOOOOKKKKKKKKKK.

So, Thursday I emailed him (he reads email, he doesn't listen to me - typical) to let him know I bought the license plate spray. Since he had not responded to my earlier "do you want to do anything for our anniversary email", I added - "Bekah says we need to go to Disney World for our anniversary 'cuz that's where we went for our honeymoon. Or Austrailia so she can go to the Barrier reef. Or Europe.
John says we need to put in a pool! Or go to Japan!" Thinking maybe this would get a response.

His return email told me I could have gotten some similar license plate stuff in town. No mention of anything else.

So I tried again. Asked him if he wanted me to cancel the plate spray order. Told him I had ordered for 2 others, so actually 2 of the 3 I bought were going to be free to us. Then said " Bekah says you want to go to Hawaii. Says you would hate a cruise. John says the Pool we could enjoy forever!"

His answer had DS17 & I almost rolling on the floor laughing.

"I told Bekah about Hawaii once and said it would be a neat place to vacation (and expensive, I'm sure). I like cruises. No pool. I'm too old for more things to maintain, fix, keep clean, etc.
I don't know about the anniversary and I don't know about spending a fortune, especially since I'm almost 50 and have to work until I drop dead on the job.
If Bekah wants to see marine life, we should go to South Padre Island for Spring Break"

#1 - he doesn't maintain, fix or keep clean anything but his nightstand. DS17 & I do all the fix, maintain stuff.
#2 - 48 is SO OLD!!!!!! He has retirement from 3 different companies - savings? Not really, we chose 1 income, 3 kids - need I say more!?!?!?
#3 - South padres Island - Spring Break???? It's worse that Ft Lauderdale!!!!

Then DS17 said next time we go anywhere via plane we need to be sure to get him a wheelchair for in the airport. This sent us giggling more.

Then he really sent us over the edge by picturing what DH would do if he were retired. Lie across the foot of the bed, watch Andy Griffith, MASH, Star Trek & Poker & do Sudoku! Exactly what he does every hour he is at home now! Except then he would complain he never gets out of the house.

So, I can't leave it & responded: "You make it sound like 50 is old! Personally, I intend to stay as active as possible until I'm at least 80! You do have retirement - or I think you do, and I think there is something from the other 2 as well. Maybe you need to check into those so we have an idea where we stand. Isn't official retirement age (soc. security, etc. now 67.5 US? that would also be good to know - I know they keep raising it as people live longer & are healthier because they are staying active)

I agree on the pool. It would be nice if we lived in Florida where we could use it year round, but a pain here especially with the wind & sand."

Then I included the quote from someone's journal about the thumping in your chest during exercise being your heart applauding.

Needless to say he didn't respond.

Then he got home & I mentioned I had found a really good deal for Turtle Bay on Oahu - 6 nights/7 days. He informed me that that was WAY TOO SHORT! If we were going to Hawaii it would need to be for at least 2.5 - 3 weeks as he would have to see EVERYTHING on EVERY island and would need at least a "full day" of rest in between. (His parents did this for their 25th as his sister was at the time living at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki with the son of the owner & they went for FREE. And my DH was their only child not married or on their own)

PATHETIC!!!!!!!

Friday - At last? or Already??? Depends on how you look at it!!

Took DD to school, DS20 to work. Now I'm putzing on the computer avoiding a bill paying session. This weekend I MUST DO TAXES!!! (but probably won't!)

Tonight DD has a choir concert which means we have to go out to dinner after - late - at a pizza place. I WILL HAVE ONLY a small SALAD!!!!!!

Today I need to go the the gym as I never made it yesterday. A day off is good, but I actually missed not doing any exercise. And I need to get some Ebay done. I still have piles to sort & take pics of in my Living Room!

3/9 - Day 5/108

Egg Beaters(1)
cheese(2)
obrien potatoes(.5)
banana peppers(0)
veggie sausage(2)
peach mango salsa(.5)
4 meringue cookies(2)
tomato(0)
turkey(1)
ff string cheese(1)
chicken caesar salad(6)

Ok, I had to edit breakfast as my fiber Cake had some mold on it & the coffee was too strong. So, I turned it into brunch as the morning was flying away.

Sounds like you had a busy day today, Julie.... Any chance for some relaxation this weekend?

How is eBay going for you? I think I am going to list a few more things this weekend and then be done for awhile. It seems like when the weather starts to break, people are out and about and doing more and not bidding as much. If the fees weren't so high, I think I might eBay every month.

Have a great weekend!:cool1:

Hi Julie
Looks like DH wants to go to Hawai for 3 weeks then!!
GET IT BOOKED :)
I never ask DH, he only moans but then loves everything when hes there, I;m sure your DH will too ;)
Swimming is supposed to be one of the best forms of exercise!
Have a great weekend :)

Tracey, I'd LOVE to go for 3 weeks, but I think I'd have to mortgage my house, again, to do it!

Tracy - I just started up on Ebay again - it's very fickle, that's for sure! And fees are getting outrageous!

Yesterday I got in an hour of walking. This morning I got up earlier than I wanted after a night of not being able to fall asleep for hours, & decided I had just enough time to get in a swim before the morning water aerobics class started. Nuts, but I did it! 68 minutes for 2 miles + 2 lengths. I really want to go to the Bosque (trail by the Rio Grande (means forest - which it's not, just the only trees in NM!) and walk about 4 miles. Not sure if that will happen.

Other than that, I have tons of house cleaning plus TAXES to work on. I will Ebay some later today as well.

After the concert I called in the pizza order so I wouldn't change my mind. I got a large pizza to go for the boys, but it was in a box, so not so tempting!

3/10 - Day 6/108

ff string cheese(before swim)(1)
fiber cake(1) - yes, they were fine after freezing!
egg beaters(1)
ff cheese(.5)
peach mango salsa(.5)

hostess 100 cal pk(2)
baked tostitos(4)
cheese(2)
sf nf decaf cinn. dolce(4)

I tried swimming not long ago but had to conclude the TM was my venue. I kept gulping water instead of oxegen. Now I remember why I like diving better than swimming. I kept my mouth closed under water. lol. I admire you more coordinated people.

Great job on the steady weight loss and increasing exercise time!

Julie,

Just trying to catch up with your journal-scanned the last 10 pages or so--and I have to say that I'm SO impressed with how you keep so many balls in the air. You're so incredibly busy that I'm out of breath just reading about your days. :rotfl:

I loved hearing about the Garmin--makes me want one--and the swimming. I always admire swimmers because I'm (irrationally) terrified of water. It seems like the perfect exercise for you. Good job with the food restraint, too!

As for your family, wow! Your Dbro sounds fascinating. And your children quick-witted and, and both DD and DS17 have a lot of things going on in their lives...just like you. Oh, and this might sound weird, but I thought DS20 sounds a little bit like you--not in terms of needing to gain some financial maturity, etc., but your posts keep noting how long and hard he works. Just like you! :) I think he'll come round nicely, with a little tough love from you.

It sounds like both you and your DH need a good vacation/anniversary. He needs to get over the age/health/work thing. But it also sounds a little depressed, so he's resisting taking better care of himself. Not that you should need to put up with that. Tell him to "buck up, camper!" (Not that I know what that means, exactly.) I say, YOU choose the place, book the trip, and DH will love it!

Anyway, it's great to read your journal and see the progress. I look forward to reading more.

Went walking in the bosque -

Mile 1 - 13:58
Mile 2 - 13:37
Mile 3 - 13:05
Mile 4 - 14:35 - I walked about 1/2 of this with DH at a much slower pace

At the 5K mark I was 42:06

Total was 59:48 as when I got done I went back to DH.

I really didn't think I would be walking a sub 14 mile and was pleasantly surprised. Makes a difference with gentle hills, not steep ones, and also it's at about 1000' lower altitude - right around 5000'.

Carole, I'm afraid of TMs! There, I've said it! I have a rebuilt ankle and I feel like if I drag a foot at all, stumble, etc. I'm going to get hurt on it. I'll walk fast, but I have to hold on!!

DKP, DS20 is a CLONE of DH. He is working the hours he has to because he likes it, for once! But is totally a couch potato, nerd, geek. He can sit & watch Simpson's for hours - an entire SEASON in one sitting, repeatedly. He can tell you every line from every star trek movie & episode. But don't ask him to drive from here to the grocery! It's rather scary! I'd think DH is depressed as well, but he has been like this as long as I've known him. His dad was the same way for years & years, as his paternal uncle & brother. DH mom always said they come out of it around 55 - 60 and turn human! So does his aunt, so maybe there's hope!

Finished yesterday ok. DH ended up going into work. DD was holed up in her room reading 'To Kill A Mockingbird' as she was supposed to be reading it over the last 2 weeks and hadn't started. Has 3 short papers to write today on it. DS20 worked the Hockey Game last night & DS17 went out playing Hide & Seek w/ youth group in a park, then in WalMart. Ended up here playing Wii. So, did I work on taxes while I had quiet? Of course not! I did some ebay, and gave the pups a MUCH needed bath - Mia had a problem - long hair that hasn't been trimmed in certain areas got a bit disgusting - I think you get the picture. Tried to get to bed early, but it didn't work out, again, due to interruptions. Oh well....

DD apparently has a bad ear infection or something. Her sinuses have been bad & now she is complaining about her jaw & ear really hurting bad on one side - to the point she won't eat on that side, so I'm sure there is a Dr. visit on tomorrow's agenda.

DS20 is at work - they have to change from Hockey to set up for Willie Nelson tonight. He says even if he doesn't have to work it, he is going to show up as he can then be backstage. DS17 is heading to play drums for church for the first time. DH went back to bed, DD is sleeping & sick, so I'm going to skip church & go do TAXES! ICK!!!!!!!

3/11 - Day 7/108

decaf(0)
fibercake(1)
ww em(1)
lt pb(1)
lt j(1)
baked tostitos(4)
32 oz water(0)
cheese(3)
2 ff hd(2)
2 lt buns(2)
1.5 cheese hot dogs(7.5)
chocolate(1)

34 oz diet orange, 34 oz decaf tea

I'm not sure what food will be today, but I'm planning to have DH grill up meat for a few days. I probably need to do a quick WalMart run at some point as we're out of Robitussen for DS20 who just can't get rid of the crud and I should pick up a few other things for the week.

I'd like to spend the day planning an anniversary trip, but I can't get DH to commit to anything & with his 'mood' I'm not sure if I can safely book something without his OK. My plan is to go to the gym later this afternoon & do bike & weights. If I get energetic, or frustrated enough from taxes, I may walk up to the grocery & get a paper.

Off to taxes.....

I'll visit some journals later in between doing Ebay.....

Have a Blessed Sunday!

Hey Julie, You sound like me with the taxes. I've been organizing our filing system for 2 weeks now and getting all the documents together. Next weekend I will have to bite the bullet and get 'er done.

Have yourself a great week! Denise

Yep, taxes are figured, but now I have to go back & doublecheck, fill out all the blanks, etc. It's not hard, just don't like doing it.
