Sunday
After finishing the last of the packing we called in our cat Stitch and took her to stay with her aunty Phyllis at the local cattery where we knew she would be spoilt rotten for the next few days.
Then after a quick lunch we caught the train from our village station into London. We find it much easier to travel down to London on a Sunday afternoon and stay overnight than having to struggle with bags and suitcases on a packed Monday morning commuter train.
After arriving at Kings Cross we took the tube over to Waterloo to check into the Waterloo Travelodge for our overnight stay. We chose this one as it is one of the newer Travelodges in London and it only cost us £35 to book. Our room was nice and large and was on the 4th floor and was nice and quiet even though we were next to the lift. The room was at the back of the hotel and we did not suffer from any street noise overnight.
Our plan that evening was to have a walk around London looking at the Christmas lights in Oxford Street and Regent Street and also to see the Christmas tree in Trafalgar Square. But after dumping our bags in our room and popping outside we changed our minds. It was a freezing -2 so we decided to have dinner in the hotel and went beack to our room to have an early night and we watched the Dad's Army movie on TV.
