Jon & Kate plus 8 budget?

well maybe we would all act a bit different, over the top, stressed, whatever if we had 6 kids, all the same age, a set of twins, one that seems to have issues of her own, a production crew, a time schedule for the production, etc...I love watching the show because it's fasinating how they operate. I try not to judge her too much.;)

On a more positive note:

I did notice on the show last night (Hawaiian Vacation episode) John and Kate seem to be doing a lot better handling Maddies' behavior problems. Setting limits and such. It appears perhaps they have sought professional help. Good for them to identify and address these issues. And whether or not they paid for the therapy, or had it "donated" by some child therapsit watching the show is of little consequence. Bravo for them recognizing that Maddies problems were way deeper than simple sibling rivalry and thinking outside their own little boxes.

If you listen to Kate talking in the promo clip for their new season she does say, " The kids have a great life and we have a great life because of them."
I always had the impreesion she meant more than just the usual parental reward thing. LOL.

Well, y'know, if she's got issues with the production crew and everyone else being there, she could always just stop filming. They chose to open their family life to the universe, and sadly, that means the good and the bad. There was one interview given that J & K said what you see is what happens in their life...so I don't believe that it's "creative editing" making them appear different than they really are.

I have often seen them react in situations with the kids in similar ways that I have with my own child, so I'm trying not to harp on her too much, but really, I think what you see is what you get with them.

For me, the real turn off these days is the fact that the show is billed, (at least in the description on MY cable guide..LOL) is "following Jon & Kate Gosselin as they try to raise their sextuplets and twins in the most NORMAL way possible" (or something to that effect). I'm sorry, but this is no longer the case. NORMAL families do not have all of the free opportunites that they do, NORMAL families do not have two stay at home parents...I mean, I could go on and on. They are far from normal now, and quite honestly, I get a very noveau-riche, "we're sooooooooo much better than everyone else" vibe now. Not at all like the show was in the beginning when they seemed to be more genuine. Now it's all product placement and trips and whatnot. Feels like a giant commercial anymore.

I don't have a link, but I remember reading some explanations about their parents, some of which came out of interviews on the show. I know Jon's dad is deceased and they were very close and Kate also said he was very supportive. Not sure about his mom. I have read that Kate's family lives close by but are religious zealots and were very harsh with discipline when Kate was younger. I also read that they disapproved of Kate having fertility treatment. The article pretty much said they were hicks. I will try to find it on google. Kate has also mentioned on the show when discussing discipline (putting kids in the corner for timeout) that her parents were very harsh in their discipline style and that she didn't want that for her kids. Not that there aren't other issues--just thought I'd chime in on this one.

ETA: I cant find that link, although I didn't look very hard! I found a lot more speculation--that Kate's parents are strict Mennonite or PA Dutch & disapproved of her marrying a Korean & someone of a diff religion and having IVF. But like all the rest, it's just speculation and we probably won't know what the facts are.

honestly? I've read a lot baout JK8 and haven't seen some of that information related to her family. I'm not saying it isn't true... I'm just saying I haven't seen anything like that connected to Kate's distance from her family.

I've always read that Kate claims the family "didn't know how to help" when she had the sextuplets. And that is what caused the rift. Until recently, Kate's brother Kevin and his wife Jodi were involved with the kids and seen on the show. There are rumors that suggest Kate didn't want Jodi involved anymore (for money, or whatever reason) and now they are not in contact with them, either.

I hope you can find a link to your information ~ I'd love to read it!

Statements like that are disgusting. You don't know what happens to those clothes after the kids outgrow them. Maybe she donates them to her church's clothes closet, maybe she gives them to others at her church, maybe she sells them in a church yard sale that benefits the church or one of their charities, maybe she gives them to Goodwill, maybe she sells them, maybe she throws them out, maybe she saves them for the memories or in case they do adopt a child like some ppl have said they heard them thinking of doing, etc.

Kate consigns. It's been mentioned on the show before.

Thank you, Thank you , Thank you!! I have been so disappointed lately in all of the bad publicity Kate has been getting lately. The show is one of my favorites! I really feel that unless we are living her life, we have no right to judge. It really gets me that some people seem to look down on them for excepting free gifts! Really!?!? Here on the budget board, we are all about getting things for free! I say good for them! The companies/vacation resorts, are getting free advertising and the kids are getting things they otherwise would not be able to. I also don't understand why some people feel they are "using" the kids. I'm sure as older children, they would love to hear "Kids, we could have taken you here and there, and let you have this and that, but we didn't want to exploit you, so instead we both worked full time and struggled to make ends meet!" I believe the kids will understand even if there is a permanent record of potty training, temper tantrums and the like.

Well, like I said, I didn't look hard--it was just rumors I had read in the past, coupled with snippets of things they've said on the show (i.e., when Kate said she was disciplined too harshly growing up). Also, I guess Im not interested enough and don't have enough time to search the pages of google since I have 3 kids 6 and under vying for my attention right now. But if you do a google search like this one: http://www.google.com/search?q=jon+...microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&rlz=1I7ADBS&sa=2 and start reading, you will catch bits and pieces. I looked at the 1st & 3rd hit, and it has some if it. Like I said, though, it is all rumors, so trying to hash out the truth is pointless. :flower3:

the show is their life ... their life is the show

For better or for worse, they made the choice to put it all out there for people to see ... and comment on.

I guess if people don't like the show or Kate or the kids or whaever, they can certainly stop watching!
It is the highest rated show on TLC if that tells you anything!

stop watching or keep complaining ... given the choice, I think a lot of people are still watching. It's like a train wreck, sometimes.

I remember when Trading Spaces was TLC's number one show and how quickly it got that way. I also remember how short-lived that popularity was, too. I hope Jon & Kate are getting good advice. I hope they're enjoying their success, but keeping an eye on the future.

Hate to tell, but she does say that she has yard sales and gives the items to consignment shops. Trust me she would love to be saint if she gave to charity, but kate is all about kate.
And proceeds from the yard sales have gone to charity(pediatric cancer research I believe). So, sometimes Kate is not all about Kate. But some just see that as damage control.

EXACTLY!!!! But to sit here and go on and on about their parenting skills, their marriage, consigning their kids clothes is ridiculous. I like the show I think it is entertaining. I know that the producers want to develop characters and get the best most sensational parts on air, but for me to pretend like I know them and can make an fair assesment about their character without knowing them is insane.

The Hawaii show last night did what it was suppose to do get everyone buzzing about the Grand Waleila Resort that they stayed in. I am sure as of yesterday for peoplewho can afford it, there reservations went way up. Pure entertainment, nice show. Wish I could sit and watch more shows with my children that are pure and innocent.

I've read one rumor about her parents that was quickly proven false. It was linked here on the DIS on another board. It talked about how impoverished and ignorant her parents were and were also had many missing teeth. It was crazy. It also listed her parents occupations incorrectly and got most other stuff wrong. From more credible looking rumors I've seen just say that Kate has basically cut her family out of her life and I have also read news clippings about her not being very appreciative of the fundraisers her parents church did, furniture didn't match, etc....

And as for help look at the dilleys and the mccoughs, they had help in the begining, but now both parents work full time jobs to keep there families going.

You stole my answer!! Damage control seems to be the catch-all for everything nice, loving, giving the Gosselins do. The naysayers whined when they weren't giving to charity then accused them of "damage control" when they did.

On another note, a lot of the people who want them to stop getting freebies, perks and payment for the show also want them to give away their things? Where's the logic there? If they stop accepting things and give away the things they have accepted, they won't end up with much. Yes, Jon and Kate can go back to work, but not (both of them, at least) until the six are in full-time school. They'd also have to find some stellar paying jobs to be able to provide for a family of ten and still spend time with their kids.

I don't think they need a budget. I think they get most of their things paid for by making special appearances, magazine articles, and of course the television show they do. :happytv:

I just watched the trip to Hawaii they took. Not sure if that was a repeat or not. Okay, I am a little jealous. I would love to go to Hawaii and have it get paid for by someone else! And the boat they rented to go sailing and snorkeling?! How much do you think that cost? :scared1:

Granted, I would not want to have that many little kids all at once. We have five. The last two were twins and that was plenty for me at one time! :rotfl:

Just wondering why the latter is more "credible looking."

I have actually read blogs written in 2005 before any fame about how they turned down many gifts (cars, furniture etc) because it wasn't perfect and had lists of things they did want (matching cribs). About how they demanded to keep the state-paid baby nurse b/c 6 babies were too much to handle. (which of course they are! LOL). People really had no reason then, in 2005, to make all this stuff up. It was well known in their town and in their church how they were 'entitled' when the 6 were born. It was pretty clear to me and lots was documented at that time.

That's why those 'rumors' are more believable.

Now, I had read that they wanted new cribs. I would want a new crib, too. With all the recalls, etc., I'd want all the info on my crib and hand-me-downs don't tend to come with that. I've read the article about the nurse. I've never seen anything about turning down cars or furniture.

ditto. I'd love to see a link about that. (I'm all about the links, LOLOL)
