Jon & Kate Confusion

the part where the kids are eating ice cream and kate is freaking out bc , omg, they're making a mess!! oh no!!

That's one freakout I don't blame her for. They were getting ready to have a special photo shoot with all the characters on the lawn in front of the castle. Those photos will be used over and over to show her family and somebody hands six three-year-olds cups with already melted chocolate ice cream and spoons???

I think I'd have lost my mind as well and I only know what what a mess it would be with TWO three-year-olds. After the photos were done and we could sit quietly, sure, give 'em the ice cream. But not BEFORE the photo shoot!

I don't know what the deal is with Jon's mother, but I have this feeling that for Kate's parents, that it is racial. There have been little comments here and there that made be feel that is the case. Recently she said something about certain family members refusing to get to know the kids until the kids were in the lime light. Basically she said it was too little too late.

i don't think that's the case at all. if you read the press releases and newspaper articles when kate was pregnant with the babies her mom was designated as a spokesman for the family-and i think it was the church kate's dad is pastor of or at least associated with by virtue of his pastoral status that spearheaded the fund raising and collections of donations.

i've always thought that it had to be very embarrassing to her family to have asked their church and physical community to help provide for these babies then to have kate turn around and publicly refuse many of the donations because they were'nt what she wanted (in particular all matching items-i mean it's great if someone wants to donate 6 of one item, but when it's individuals who don't even know you and out of the kindness of their own hearts donate a crib or other item and you refuse it because it does'nt match the other ones already donated:sad2: ). there was also an issue where the one church did as the family requested and solicited volunteers to help round the clock only to have kate then say she did'nt want a bunch of strangers in her home because they were a very private family (that sure changed when it became a financial situation with tlc:rolleyes: millions of us strangers watch them constantly )-but these 'strangers' were members of the church family the family was associated with (this was brought up in kate's state medical appeal when she claimed she could'nt care for the kids alone and because jon worked outside the home she did'nt have anyone available to help out).

she very much strikes me as the kind of person who could easily cut off family or friends if they were'nt doing for her what she felt she was entitled to. you notice that the people you see most interacting with the kids are those that do a great deal for the family-the 'nana's' one who does the laundry and the other who does the ironing, beth and her dh who babysit and have the family over weekly for a meal, the sitter and her dd (who fills in as a sitter)-we realy never saw aunt jody until she began taking the kids more for childcare (we saw jody's dh when he came over and helped jon install the storage stuff for the garage, we've seen a couple of other friend's of jon when they've helped install the carpet or do other home repairs).

i dunno, i know the show is highly edited but i would think that you'de see some interaction with other people-you never see other kids at the house (except the one girl cousin), they never seem to mention maddy or cara going to play at a friends-they just strike me as a family with a very small circle of supporters vs. what i would think of as traditional 'friends'.

They've also said several times that he works with Beth's husband. Just because hes "gone into business for himself" doesn't mean he can't have a busniess partner or can't work with someone.

Yes. When he first mentioned working with Beth's husband he said that he will be in charge of his own schedule so he will have the fexibility to be home more often to get the girls off the bus etc.

I wasn't really speaking to the 'throwing a fit' aspect. ElleBelle said that Kate, "snubbed everyone." I've also seen other people say she is abrasive. I just know, from experience, that it's easy to come off that way when you're working very hard to watch your kids in a hectic environment. Even the post about Disney. Sure they're kids and it's ice cream. As mom, though, sometimes you lose sight of that and think, "I don't have 8 new shirts with me. I'll never get these stains out. They're going to be sticky, and uncomfortable for the rest of the day" etc. That doesn't make the tantrum right, but it is a little understandable. Combining stress, and then some fancy editting, I'm sure, I am willing to cut Kate a little slack.

And to add to that, it's easy to mistake an introverted personality as snobby. I've always been like that. I'm not a super social person. Not that I completely curl up into a hole, but I prefer flying under the radar rather than being the life of the party. She's said before on episodes that she's the introvert while Jon is the extravert. Kids used to think I was SUCH a snob in school, that I thought I was better than everyone. That wasn't it at all. I just wasn't comfortable going person to person around a room and chatting with everyone.

Not saying that's the whole reason she comes off like that in public, but it could be at least part of it.

Simple solution and you mentioned it.... do the common sense thing and wait to give them their ice cream until after the photo shoot.

barkley--I didn't know all that. How very interesting....I wonder if Kate's ever heard the phrase "Cut off your nose to spite your face'.

It certainely seems to apply to her at times, don't you think?

It's been awhile since I've seen that episode, but ISTR some Disney CM walking up with cups of ice cream on a tray and handing them out to kids without really asking J & K if it was okay... something sorta like my mom would do

Ever notice when Jon and Kate are being interviewed sitting in that big comfy chair that Kate is always leaning away from Jon...never toward him? Sometimes Jon will even have his arm around her or at least over the back of the chair but she just kind of curls up away from him. :confused3

I don't know what the deal is with the grandparents, but I did hear that out of all of her siblings, only the youngest has much of a relationship with their parents.

Kate's bothering me more than she used to. I really didn't like it when she threatened to throw away the gummed up lovey.

That was my inpression, but the show is very heavily edited, and they often show things out of order.
My impression was that the CM's brought the icecream over while the kids were waiting to meet the characters.

I remember hearing that too.

----------------------------

Since day one I have had a "gut" feeling that the estrangement from the grandparents was due to Kate's attitude and if what you are saying is correct, I was right all along.. How sad for the grandparents.. :(

Hmmm, I didn't know that background part of the story...I did notice though how she has someone to fold the laundry and another person to put it away! I would love that myself!

Teeth bleaching, someone folding her laundry, someone putting it away, 3 people to travel to WDW to "help" them, tummy tuck, Sara Snow coming to their house, buying 1/2 an organic cow, 8 kids....hummmmmmmmm
adds up to a big pay check that Jon's IT job couldn't afford!

They have become a real turn off to me lately. :headache:

Tummy tuck was donated by a viewer.
The people who fold and put of the laundry are volunteers, they are not paid employees

It is specualted that they get a big discount for their dental services because the dentist is the former partner of Jon's late father.

It is also speculated that a lot of what they get is comp'ed for free advertising, such as Sarah Snow, WDW etc.

As for the 1/2 a cow, we buy local grass fed nearly organic beef by the 1/4 or side. buying in bulk is cheaper than buying from the grocery store.

luvmy2sams;25121860]Wasn't it announced that the kids' college education is being funded as well?
I don't know but I'm sure money is being put into a trust or something for them. Afterall, the money is coming in because of them and they deserve it. IMO

Yeah - but that kinda makes it more 'real'. KWIM?

As for the donations and volunteers:

Last year I gave birth to twin girls. At that time, my older 3 kids were 7, 8 and 10. I had gotten rid of all my baby stuff. I, too, turned down an offer for a crib because I wanted to get matching cribs. I figured the girls were going to share a room and I planned on getting cribs that converted to toddler beds. So these cribs were going to be in the shared bedroom for around 5 yrs. I wasn't snotty about it (not sure if Kate was) but I wanted them to match. I did, happily accept a swing, maternity clothes and other odds and ends.

Also...I was on bedrest a few times during the twin pregnancy. I had offers from people to come in and help with some of the housework. I knew these people and I still didn't feel comfortable having them in the house working. At that point in time I felt so out of control of everything in my life...I couldn't handle having people over. On the other hand, God Bless everyone that brought us dinners.
