Jon and Kate Plus 8. Official Thread!!

As someone who used to be a fan of the show, but slowly started not liking it, I can truly say after last night's episode I think I am done. First sign was that I found myself way too often yelling at Kate and having to change the channel because I could not stand her behavior. DH came in and was like "Why are you watching this? You're YELLING at the TV!" I told him it was one of those things where you don't want to watch but you can't help it.

For me, the final straw was the whole Joel/cake thing. Just listening to his little voice, asking what was going on and could he help, and Kate's reply to him, I wanted to slap the woman. The look on that poor kids face as he was getting ready to go down the stairs was heartbreaking. So, let's see. If he was a girl, he would have been allowed at the table to help decorate. But for the simple fact that he's a boy he was immediately dismissed. I know that Kate-lovers don't think this is a big deal, but this was it for me. I agree with the previous poster that she definately seems to favor the girls and that drives me nuts. Also, if I have to watch Mady have one more tantrum I think I'll have to gouge my own eyes out.

The bottom line is that this show now causes me more angst than enjoyment so I think I'm going to take a break from it. Good luck to the Gosselins.

You would think.

But then again, I remember when I was that age I got in trouble for ripping out my sister's (who is 3 years younger than I am) strawberry-shaped earrings. And for hitting her in the head with things.

When I was in HS and my brother was in upper elem/middle school, he'd come into our room in the morning and wake us up by throwing shoes at us.

The stuff we did makes these kids look tame by comparison.:lmao:
:lmao: OK that is NOT a nice way to get woke up in the morning!!!

I used to defend Kate a bit, way back in this thread. Now I think she needs to take a major chill pill. I still watch it tho. I never thought of the fact that she favors the girls, but more like she favors Hannah. For some reason I can't feel sorry for Mady? (Maddie, Maddi..gosh I have been spelling her name many ways today  )

I feel for Maddie. First she has a "unique" mother, she is a twin to an athletic and successful sister, and overnight gets 6 siblings. In come the notariety and the cameras. I don't know if my DDs would be able to handle all that without blowing a gasket on occasion.

I agree with you. And I'm sure you wouldn't put her struggles on tv for all to see. When my kids watch the show, they always think Mady must get teased in school for what is shown on tv.

My 7 year old (8 tomorrow) would be mortified if someone saw her crying on tv.

Exactly. Happy birthday to your dd! Will your girls be the same age now for a short time? :)
OT and if this is too personal just ignore it-I remember when I was little I always thought it would be fun to have a twin sister, and my youngest dd recently told me the same thing! Maybe your girls have it good-not really twins, but almost! :)

ewwww just realized I used there instead of their, I hate that

OK, leave the thread. ;)

Did you mean twin girls? ;)

I have an 8 year old dd, and believe me, she can be a challenge. BUT she doesn't even come close to acting like Maddie does. I am wondernig why they keep showing Maddie and her tantrums?! I know the kids watch their own episodes.........

I remember them saying the camera acts as her physical conscience or something to that effect. She saw herself on the show and was upset by her own behavior. Maybe not a 100% bad thing.

I don't really consider Mady and Cara tweens though? Do you guys?

I have a 12yr.old - that's what I consider a tween. (and no, she doesn't pitch a fit at the drop of a hat. She's perfect.;) ) I was a little surprised at the twins' behavior throughout the episode last night. What are they now - 7 or 8?

And how about trying to get that family picture on July 4th? I was stressed just watching them trying to do it!

I think of Tweens as, maybe, 10-12.

I have 7 & 8 year old DDs, and there is drama, even hitting in our house. My kids are both in the same grade, and are often treated like twins. I think that type of dynamic (same gender, same age) has a lot more challenges than many people think.

I know they mentioned that each of the girls succeeds in different areas. Mady isn't "the unsuccessful twin." I think they mentioned she was better in Math, more outgoing, etc.

I also remember them saying that Cara succeeds at whatever she tries - maybe they meant more in a physical sense.

They've said a few times that Cara's very good at sports and more physical things while Mady's good at school and socializing. I don't think they ever put Mady down.

I know this has probably been hashed out and re-hashed out here...but I have skimmed through the thread, and even clicked on Jodi's sisters blog, and I still don't understand what happened that caused Jodi to break off....I didn't see the episode with the gum...but read about it...was it over that? was she hurt by how they acted about that on the show?

Can someone link me to the info...or give me the short version? So no Jodi now? The are estranged from the grandparents and families, so are they down to camermen , a nanny (that puts laundry away on the side), and the neighbor that they use and abuse to fold ALL of their laundry? Are their any other people in their lives? Or have they used them all up and spit them out when they couldn't get anything anymore?

From what I've heard the production crew offered to start paying Jodi for watching the kids and being on the show, but Kate had a fit since she doesn't want anyone making money off the show but her. It makes absolutely no sense to me because if a big business/production company was willing to pay not only me but also my family, I'd make sure we milked it for all it was worth  So after that Kate got mad and said that Jodi wasn't allowed to see the kids anymore, even after Jodi had already been watching the kids for free since they were born. Supposedly Kate's done this to several other family members and friends, which again is insane to me because who doesn't let their own family see their kids because of petty arguments? It's all very, very weird... and sad.

so would my 6 year old - she would have refused to wear a bib at 4, too. Because bibs are for babies ... she really would have been embarrassed if anyone saw her.

My DD is starting the drama llama more than I'd like these days, too. I'd say Cara & Mady's behavior is age-appropriate, especially in light of their family dynamic.

This is the link to Aunt Jodi's sister's blog telling what happened. The most recent entry of this blog is a video from Aunt Jodi, telling everyone that what is posted on this blog is true.
