I just have to say one off topic thing. Why would Gov Palin join TLC and have her family be on a reality show. Has the world gone nuts LOL?

money. exposure. political agenda... among other reasons?

TLC -- home of Kate Gosselin and Sarah Palin. Wow.

hmmmm... this is an interesting article... the information is from a "source", so take it for what it's worth:

After stumbling through the first broadcast of "Dancing with the Stars," Kate Gosselin is one nervous mother of eight.
An ABC insider tells Fox411 that the reality TV mom is shaking in her high heels after this week's first show, in which she gave one of the program's worst performances.
"Kate is terrified that she'll be the first person voted off and she is determined not to let that happen," a network source told Fox411. "She is a lot more focused than she was leading up to the first show. Kate finally realized how hard 'DWTS' is going to be for her and she needs [her partner] Toni [Davolini]'s help."
SLIDESHOW: The stars on the 'DWTS' season premiere.
The source said Gosselin thought she could charm he way through the contest. Not anymore.
"There was a time when she cared more about her nails and tanning and continuing her regular workouts. Now, it's all about the kids first and dancing second."
Monday night's DWTS debut was almost more than Kate could bear, the source said.
"Kate struggled to get through the show. She knew the producers planned for her to go towards the end of the show, but it only served to make her so much more nervous that by the time she was set to dance," said our insider. "She's trying to get her mindset prepared for next week. It is harder than she imagined."
Our insider added that rumors of on-set tensions between Gosselin and the rest of the cast - especially Shannen Doherty - are overblown.
"[Kate]'s not unfriendly. She is quiet and keeps to herself and her small team," the source explained. "Kate and Shannen have talked and there's no rift - everyone is friendly and cordial onset. The competitors are trying to remember their routines so there isn't a lot of time for socializing."
So how does Gosselin plan to turn her fortunes around on Monday?
"She told [her partner] Toni she will listen to every single thing he says. She wants to stay in the competition."
And if she can't improve her performance?
"She will play the mom card," said our insider. "She hopes that her great support system of moms everywhere will help vote to keep her in."

the bolded are all things that have been discussed here before, which is why I bolded them. LOL... especially the part about being quiet and keeping to her group.

was she really that bad? bad enough to be voted off this week? I know I've read some harsh comments from Us Weekly, but having not seen the show puts me at a disadvantage here.

and I wonder if Kate realizes that, while she has a support system of moms, not all moms are fans? If I was Kate, I would certainly make that appeal, I don't think she's got any other option .. since that is what got her on the show in the first place. LOL.

IMO the only one who did worse was Buzz. He's a tad older and I think remembering the steps was hard for him. Shannen, in my opinion was right us there with them.

Many of the people who have been on DWTS has some sort of support..people who call in for them. It would not be unusual for Kate to continue to have a rough time with the dancing, get poor marks from the judges, and yet to stay longer and beat out those who dance better. It's just the way the show is. The only dancer I remember being worse than Buzz, was the mailman (Cliff) from cheers. That was painful to watch LOL. There may have been others, but I remember his dancing well..ouch!

I'm no dancing expert, but she was pretty bad. She was better than Buzz, but I given his age, I'm not sure the expectations were all that high for him.

I agree. Kate was pretty bad; very stiff, not fluid, weird kicks and of course no real expression on her face. To me it looked like she hadn't practiced much at all. I expected Buzz to be stiff, he's 80 (and has had a few too many procedures himself)!

She expected to charm her way through?...now that is funny and likely true!

I hadn't really thought about it until reading this reply, but American Idol (and any show that relies on votes, really) is like that, with the support. That one kid a few years ago was so bad, but the little girls loved him and kept voting him through, even though he was terrible. LOLOL... in fact, there's a website devoted to keeping the worst performer on American Idol.

has the voting closed already this week for DWTS?

You're right, I forgot about the fans voting part. I'm surprised tlc hasn't released any "good" press for Kate to get her name out there to remind the fans to vote for her.

Your following post is more accurate. :) It is not a reality show with her family. It is a travel show about Alaska according to The Today Show. :)

It was in today's paper. The maker's fo surivor are the producers, and they signed up for 8 shows so far. I found this:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/03/25/sarah-palins-tlc-reality_n_512785.html

It appears to be more about travel in Alaska. We'll see.

That is what the Today Show said. I think they showed her family riding in a boat but it is not about her family like J&K+8. It is about traveling Alaska. I'll probably watch because I hear Alaska is beautiful but I have no desire to go there.

I watched the show about hour and a half after it aired. I tried to vote and recieved the text message that voteing closed 30 minutes after the show aired. Strange.....since Hawaii is two hours behind pacific time. So people in Alaska, 1 hour later and Hawaii don't get to vote??

Guess I'm used to the MAGA votes on Americal Idol with their two hour window. :rotfl:

you know how these reality shows are, though .. they start out one way, and end up another. (and I'm not speaking specifically about JK8)

Who knows what a travel show about Alaska could turn into? :happytv:

I think she is hoping it ends with the Presidency. :rotfl:

Hey, that'd be cool, a reality show IN the White House. Why haven't they thought of this before. Oh wait, somehow Bill in the Oval office would not work for G rated TV but otherwise it'd be interesting to know what goes on in there.

Threads and Reality shows...you never know how they'll end up. :rotfl2:

I'm having a hard time deciding if you all are really happy to see me back or if there's some sort of inside joke going on here :lmao:

I'm really, truly, happy to see you back! No inside jokes or sarcasm involved. You did the research, attended a Kate-fest, and have always come over as very objective.

Thanks also Buckalew11 for the :flower3:.

So, should I make a point of watching DWTS next week? Just so that I can join the discussion again rather than just read? :)

:laughing:There's no inside joke! I'm glad to see you're here with the rest of us. Honestly, last summer was so enjoyable when we were all here posting, even though it was at J&K's expense!

Ok Madge, come clean...have you watched any clips of Kate dancing yet??;)
