Jon and Kate Plus 8 Official Thread - Part 8

I don't want to "beat a dead dog" but, I am not talking about her personality during the DWTS show. I have watched Jon and Kate with much attention to detail and I can name a number of times where she was very stand offish during her show, even after she was comfortable. In Hawaii when she was going to the wedding planners about the food, no smile, no hi how are you, no wow this is great. NOTHING. except the attitude that well yes you are here to serve me. On the giving back episode in TN while shopping at K-mart, the greeter said something and she just barely could squeak our a hi, didn't even hardly look at the guy.it wouldn't have killed her to give a little smile and say hi how are you.

We just have differences of opinions, like I said I am shy myself. I think most times you can tell if someone is shy versus her entitlement attitude. I just know that if I acted like she did, my mother would have slapped me silly and asked me where my manners were.

I don't think you are trying to be a celebrity and make your living on TV and have proclaimed yourself to have the gift of gab. (I am not making that up...that is why she wanted a talk show).

Hi Madge!

Thanks, good point, I forgot about that.

I agree with this. TLC and their marketing of Jon & Kate was brilliant. I don't know if there's another word to describe it. Was it Jon who commented on how TLC showed them? The unresolved fights, they way they (both Jon & Kate) treated each other, etc.

Having said that, there have been many reports over time describing Kate's personality in a very unflattering way. Accounts written by people who saw Kate at a personal appearances, sources (named and unnamed) behind the scenes at events, and most recently, the hype surrounding Kate's behavior on DWTS. TLC had little to nothing to do with how Kate was seen by those who made those comments.

There are also people who have had a positive reaction when meeting Kate -- I'm aware of one that met her when she was here, and I've read others over the last 18 months.

When I was at the height of my JK8 fascination in the summer of 2008, I loved reading the accounts of meeting Jon and/or Kate, whether they were good or bad. And if it was a blog that didn't get a lot of traffic, even better. Chances are, it was a pretty accurate view (at least by the writer) of what happened.

Just like this board and hundreds like it in cyberspace, the cast & crew are at odds about Kate:

I recall Jon saying that too, that TLC only showed them fighting but not them resolving their issues. Which of course makes sense from a marketing standpoint, drama and controversy sells better than happiness!

I've read such conflicting reports as well that it's hard to know what's true or false. You know, I don't rememeber hearing about a celebrity who was either so loved or so disliked as Kate is. Which is why I'm sure ABC came knocking with an offer to be on DWTS.

I still think she and Jon did a disservice by chronicling their children's lives on TV. I can't fault her for DWTS though. Lots of other celeb moms have done it too, Mel B. (Spice Girl) did when her daughter was only a few months old and I was hoping she'd win! So it doesn't bother me in the least that she's on the show. Her partner's comments about her not being a diva make sense...they've spent the bulk of her training at her home in PA so when did she have time to alienate everyone and display her diva attitude?

It was a stroke of genius on ABC's part to have Kate on, look at all the chatter because of it? She's like a marketing dream I'm sure!

I've followed very little of the DWTS stuff. Did ABC make Kate an offer or did her reps work to get her on the show? Anyone know? Either way, it's a win for ABC .. but I'm interested in knowing who worked the deal.

I have no idea. Although, isn't TLC somehow linked to Disney? Which is part of ABC, right? But you're correct, either way ABC is going to profit from the controversial Kate Gosselin!

I'm sure in general that some stars are directly "invited" while others have their agents working like a crazy person to score an "invitation".

Which one Kate falls under--not sure. I'm leaning towards "agent working like a crazy person".

I recall interviews in the past with some celebs saying they have been trying to get on the show. And like any other--there is some kind of "audition" process--even if it is just strickly interviews and an agent pitching at what a particular celeb will bring by way of ratings to the show.

I just can't believe the twins weren't there. You'd think they would love to have a outing and meet the celebs. I hope they get to go next week.

that's sort of what I was thinking .. I'm not an avid watcher of DWTS (Kate or no Kate, LOL), but I've seen it enough to have a general idea of how someone makes it on there.

I'm sure the producers of the show have a long wish list of people they'd love to have just as much as there are many stars that would love to be considered!

I apologize if this was already addressed -- I haven't read all of the posts regarding Kate and DWTS.

I watched the first DWTS episode and when they showed Kate with her professional dancer, it really looked like they have no chemistry and it seemed as though the prof dancer (sorry, don't know his name) didn't think she should be there. He even said something to the effect -- like if she isn't having fun she shouldn't be doing it -- something like that. While they showed the other couples goofing off and having a good time or at least rehearsing, they were shown as the prof dancer kind of confronting her, no smiles at all, etc. It just felt weird to me.

It seems like Kate is totally out of her element, more so than even Buzz because Buzz at least seemed to be having fun. I'm not so sure HOllywood is the place for Kate. I don't think she is the type -- either you have it or you don't. I liked watching her just being herself on J&K+8, raising her kids, but the DWTS doesn't feel right -- it's kind of uncomfortable to watch.

I've heard that too, that certain celebs have said they'd love to be on DWTS. I wonder how the audition process would work since it's obvious that some of them cannot dance at all! There are seasons where I'd never even heard of some of the celebs they had on. Kate's agent (I'm sure TLC appointed) was probably involved. Geez, all they'd have to do is hand them a couple of tabloid mags and watch the end of season 4 to know that Kate will bring in the ratings.:rotfl:

I think when the spotlight was on her and her family she was quite different that the woman we saw her as on the View. If we were guessing from her actions/talk on J&K+8 about what she'd be like on the View, we'd have guessed "outspoken, opinionated, bold." But the truth was, on the View, she had trouble even speaking up--just as they warned her about (because it so easily happens with guest hosts). It was like she she couldn't seem to jump into the conversations but, on her show, she had no trouble taking over.

It reminds me of how I am with my sisters. I'm a big talker with people I know well when I'm with, say, a client. I know them, we talk etc. etc. but if one of my sisters came in, they'd more or less take over and I'm be like the outsider trying to figure out when and what to say. I've noticed this happening more than once and it is strange.

Wow. I just go back to all the times I have said, I just can't hate (or intensly dislike) someone I don't know. I can't even hate those I do. And I too will stop.

I can't hate anyone that I don't know either (I am still working very hard on my soul to try to love some people that I do have some extreme dislike toward that I do know) but I can comment on personality that I have seen displayed over and over and over and over in someone on TV. Eventually, if it walks, talks, acts like a narcissist, it's a narcissist. Just because many of us have picked up on unattractive qualities she displays, doesn't mean we hate her. She has made herself a public figure and put herself out in the public to be talked about and dicussed. She accepts money for this public exposure. We are just discussing what we see, not hating.

No idea. I think it often works both ways. I assume whoever does her scouting has come up with lots of ideas for Kate and DWTS went for it, or DWTS went after Kate and her rep went for it :rotfl:.
In any case, they made a good call. People, if they love her or hate her, are talking about her.

I do have to add Madge, that I do wish those who know Kate (really know her, not know of her) and are her friends would come forward, but they just won't, for their and her own personal reasons. Some of her friends have sent out prayer requests, so I know they are out there.

I've followed very little of the DWTS stuff. Did ABC make Kate an offer or did her reps work to get her on the show? Anyone know? Either way, it's a win for ABC .. but I'm interested in knowing who worked the deal.

I'm the one who keeps calling her Marge. But she said she was going to change it to Marge, instead of Madge LOL.

:rotfl: Marge. It's Marge, thankyouverymuch.

Hey. I had to come back. It was darn near turning into a lovefest around here. Where's the fun in that?! :upsidedow

Lovefest? Where have you been LOL. I will say though that I think this is one of the few non fan club sites (for or against) where most of us are still on-line friends (so to speak) in spite of how we feel about Kate. We've had a lot of discussions, that's for sure, and so far no one has been tossed from the dis, and the thread is still going strong. Good for all of us!
