I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but do you pay child support if you don't have an income? I thought it was based on income of the person paying it, not on the the lifestyle of the primary care giver (who in this case in the higher wage earner).

I though Jon already put back the money he took out, so did he have to pay twice?

I would assume that you pay child support based on the number of your children. Why should it have anything to do with whether or not you have an income?

IMO you have children, you help raise them, pay for their needs. And if you can't pay for anything for your children then you are a deadbeat dad/mom.

From TMZ:

We've learned under the arbitrator's award, Jon must make huge child support payments -- we're told 5 figures a month. And here's the problem. TLC has now shut down Jon's ability to take outside jobs. The irony -- he did himself in.

We've also learned Jon was charged every penny of the $235,000 that he withdrew from their joint account. That amount was deducted from his piece of the settlement.

As for Jon's claim that Kate should be docked for money she withdrew ... we've learned Jon struck out. The arbitrator determined every penny she withdrew was for the benefit of the kids.
Under the terms of the divorce decree, Kate has primary custody and Jon gets visitation -- both Jon and Kate agreed to that in advance. And, they agreed, neither party would get spousal support.

Score a big one for Mark Momjian, Kate's lawyer.

Maybe I watch too much CSI, but it freaks me out that he has these financial problems, will owe 5 figures a month in child support and he has a gun!!!!

Wait. TLC took away his ability to...what? Get a regular job too? Or do they mean just TV and interviews and bikini party things? I mean come on. If people think Kate should go back to being a nure to support her family, why can't Jon do a regular job also.

And yes, I think as a dad he'll have to pay child support or be a deadbeat dad. I mean, there's a lot of men out there who are so lazy that they'd rather not work than pay child support. Jon needs to get some type of job and contribute to raising his kids.

And to think that jon may be overwhelmed and unhappy that he has lost so much in the past year that he'd buy a gun and kill himself is just, well, I don't know what! Would he go that far to get out of the hole he's dug for himself? Leave his kids w/o a dad? Punish Kate so she could be blamed for his death?

I'm over them but Jon just keeps delivering, doesn't he? He needs to put the gun away (lock it away or sell it) and move on in a positive way. I hope in 2010 he can find himself, his God and his purpose again and things look up for the guy. Right now, he's at a low point and I really do hope he can't pull out of it.

same here... although I'm wondering if you mean that you hope he can pull out of it. :upsidedow

I really hope he can pull out of it to. For everyone's sake.

He can't do anymore interviews or "bikini party things"...lol. So, his only option would be to get a regular job...maybe in IT. But I was reading somewhere that he is basically un-hirable for a regular job. He just should've done something more productive with that TLC money. He could've invested it and had it grow for him or something. I wonder where his income is gonna come from...because he HAS to pay for those children.

Yes, that IS what I meant, I dropped typing in HS. Did I ever mention that? LOL (and proof reading too, obviously!)

Yes, I hope Jon and pick himself and do something productive with his life!

Now that the house is officially Kate's ~ Do you think Jon will still be having his visits there?

I know if it were my house, he wouldn't be. Too much of a liability.

This is the first I heard Kate got the house in the settlement.

It one thing if Kate doesn't want guns at her houjse. I don't see how a judge can ban them. I didn't realize a judge how that power.

I did not either. I was wondering if the judge knows he is unstable or something like that. I'm waiting to hear he is bi polar or something like that.

You pay child support even if you are not working.

Remember when you would read the Enquirer and the other rags to see what the aliens were up to? (the ones from other planets, not other countries) Now you read them to see what is going on with Jon & Kate. Jon owes Hailey $90,000.00 and Kate is interested in one of Paula Deen's sons.

Hey, we were at the supermarket today before the big storm and the lines were long and there was nothing else to do.. :rolleyes1

Jill

She seemed interested in McDreamy last night on Leno. hehe

I thought the aliens in the papers were only a UK thing.

Well we all are:love:

Doesn't Kate have primary custody and will live in the house?

yes, but Jon and Kate have always (and consistently) said that the house was bought for the children. it's never been portrayed as Jon's house or Kate's house .. it was bought in a trust. That's just always how I've understood how it goes.

Hey Madge, you do realize you are being sucked back in, right LOL?
I thought one of the judge's rulings was that Kate would live in the house with the kids as the primary custodial parent. I don't know if that means she 'got' the house, or the right to live there. We only had their (K & J) words that it was in trust for the kids. Did they actually say that, or say that they bought it for the kids? Perhpas Kate was able to show she put most of the money into the house.

I only caught a little bit on ET tonite, did they say Kate is doing a "real" Reality show?

nope. I'm not. Just chiming in on the house thing.

The judge did make that ruling about the custody. No idea what it means with regards to the ownership of the house.

One of the blogs tracked down that the house was bought in trust, and it was later confirmed.

mentioned in this article: http://www.myfoxphilly.com/dpp/news/local_news/100509_Gosselin_mortgage

The deed to the house is:
William R. Blumer, Trustee under the CWM Revocable Trust Agreement dated October 17, 2008

Good Morning Everyone! Just checking in to see that latest news. Jon's freaking crazy with a gun and just walking around shooting it at nothing?? That screams CRAZY to me! I hate to over react, but PLEASE someone keep an eye on those kids and that gun! Only bad things can happen with this situation I have a feeling. Where did Jon get money for a gun if he's not working?? What the heck? I'm starting to get fired up about this family again and I was doing so well!!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone if I don't make it back before Christmas!!! :santa: I hope Santa brings each of you what you're wishing for.

Yeah, but in trust for who (or is that whom?). And did you catch that it was a 'revocable' trust? So I assume if the judge wanted to make it Kate's he could.

I'm in between cookie batches right now ... don't have time to Google :upsidedow

I've always been of the understanding that Jon & Kate pay the mortgage, but they've said repeatedly (at the very least, on the show) that they bought the house for the children. Now what that means in regards to the trust and outright ownership, I don't know.
