Think I heard somewhere that they had an agreement that Kate would keep the house because the kids would be with her for the most part.

I wonder if the in trust was just to protect the house from being touched if they were ever sued or if the IRS ever came after them.

In PA I think Kate can live the house until the kids are 18 but she would not just get it unless Jon agreed. Most of the time the house is sold after the kids are out of school & them it is split 50/50. Thats just one way I've seen it done.

Apparently Hailey moved her things out of Jon's apartment Christmas Eve day, but someone destroyed Jon's apartment. Hailey apparently has gotten a lawyer, but if she left the door open, anyone could of done it.

Sounds a bit too staged for me....? Doom and gloom seems to follow Jon around like a black cloud or a publicity stunt.

NEW YORK— Jon Gosselin's apartment was ransacked by someone who slashed furniture, stole his TV and left a note pinned to his dresser with a butcher knife while he visited his children for Christmas, his lawyer said Sunday.

The reality show star was "devastated" by the destruction he found when he returned Saturday from Pennsylvania, attorney Mark Jay Heller said in a statement.

Gosselin's clothes, bed and other furniture were cut up, and a family-heirloom vase was shattered, Heller said. His TV, other electronics and his dishes were taken by a "very troubled and sick perpetrator," Heller said.


He wouldn't disclose who signed the note or what it said, adding that police were examining it. Police declined to comment.

The burglary marks the latest real-life drama for the 32-year-old Gosselin, who was half of the couple who rose to fame as the prolific parents of TLC's "Jon & Kate Plus 8" before splitting up this year.

Viewers watched their 10-year marriage disintegrate amid allegations that both had been unfaithful, which they denied. The breakup itself became an entertainment event, announced in an episode watched by more than 10 million people.

They initially planned to go on with the show, but it foundered on scandals, bickering and legal disputes. The last episode aired Nov. 23.

The couple officially divorced Dec. 18, with 34-year-old Kate Gosselin keeping the family home in eastern Pennsylvania and continuing as the primary caretaker of their 9-year-old twins and 5-year-old sextuplets.

Regarding the house in trust--

I have no trust knowledge, but FIL just told us this weekend that all their stuff is in trust. Supposedly it helps to avoid probate when someone dies.

Could that be a reason why their home is in trust?

It doesn't mean they don't own it--but just makes some things easier legally speaking.

Too bad about Jon's apartment. I cannot imagine.

putting items into trusts can be an effective manner of shielding it from the probate process, but what i've seen it used for to a much greater extent in my former line of work (social services) was when monies were available and abundant to a minor child from a parent or grandparent, but there was a desire on the part of the person establishing the trust to ensure it's contents/value could not be used to create disqualification for those kids in the event they want to seek out financial assistance, food stamps, medicaid and other publicly funded sources. they can also be set up such that while funds exist to pay for college, by virtue of the way an individual trust is written, those assests can be totaly disreguarded when it comes to income/assett tests for grants and scholarships.

from personal experience i've seen kids (and some adults) get entirely free rides through costly private schools and colleges despite their having monies in excess of their need sitting in trusts written precisely for that reason. i've read the trusts created by some high profile celebs that were set up especialy so their kids could get government assistance, and that specificaly read that the purpose of the trust is to creat eligiblity to these programs

This is supposedly a revocable trust. I wonder just what that accomplishes. I just saw again where Kate got the house, so I wonder if the trust was broken.

How sad if it is true that Hailey possibly did this to Jon's apt. I am reading online; Yahoo and Google, articles are stating that Jon's atty Heller says that is was Hailey?

Anyone else read that this definitely was Hailey that broke in?

I was thinking this too. If it was Hailey, she is in deep poop. And the drama of j&k continues.
Its bizarre to think of the way it used to be with Jon being a family man at home and now he is in N.Y. with all the craziness of this now. Boy, life sure takes it turns for sure.

Hailey Glassman 'is going to jail' in Jon Gosselin break-in, says his lawyer

Could Jon Gosselin's ex-lover Hailey Glassman actually be the criminal that broke into his Manhattan apartment?

The octodad's lawyer thinks so.

"Hailey Glassman is going to jail. It's a simple as that," Gosselin's attorney Mark Heller told RadarOnline.

Heller says officials are quickly gathering evidence: finger prints from a note and knife "speared" to a bureau and a building security tape.

"The building security tape will not lie and the evidence will speak for itself," Heller told Radar Online.

The former "Jon and Kate Plus 8" star found his bachelor pad ransacked after returning from Christmas with his family.

The perpetrator reportedly didn't steal anything, but damaged expensive items like Gosselin's big screen plasma TV and a 100-year-old Ming vase.

Glassman, 22, and her parents were questioned by police on Saturday, but Glassman's attorney told the Web site that someone was trying to frame her.

The former lovers split a few months ago and Glassman just moved out of the apartment a week ago.

So this tells me ... #1) Hailey is real angry/hurt/devastated about the break-up. #2) Security would not have question her coming and going to the apt. Hmmm ... does not look good for Hailey. The "knife" esp looks to be disturbing.
