I didn't know there was a real Christopher Robin! Interesting perspective for all of us, not just people who sell their kids' stories.

Stealing Neverland
Parents, children, and the wages of betrayal.

The rift was so bad between AA Milne and his son that any money as a result of the characters goes directly to the granddaughter, skipping Christopher Robin completely. At least that was what was told to me by a CM at WDW. And yes, the Milne family apparently still gets a portion of the royalties. It may be small but that is why you don't see the Pooh characters and the Mickey characters together frequently on the merchandise. Back when you bought pictures of the characters in the park (no photopass), the pooh characters are rung on a different key on the cash register for accounting purposes. We went during a low time and the CM was really chatty when I asked why he was separating them. :thumbsup2:goodvibes

Not quite true. Daphne Milne sold the rights to Disney after AA Milne's death, but royalties transferred to Christopher when she died in the early 1970s. Christopher Milne died in 1997. Presumably, any royalties now belong to his daughter Clare Milne, who has CP, and his widow.

Christopher Milne's autibiography "The Enchanted Places" makes it clear that he did have big problems with teasing at school because of his father including his childhood and toys in the books and poems. He did resent Pooh, but was not permanently estranged from his father over it.

I wonder what he would have thought of the Gosselin kids' situation. He was a nice guy who did a lot for Save the Children and Cerebral Palsy charities.:sad2:

I feel like I am in Kateland today. We flew into sunny California and my husband who never watched the show, unless I call him in for an extra cute part pointed out three (yes, three LOL) gals with Kate hairdo's on the plane (the one gal that I talked to said it was super easy to take care of, with three kids under three). We just went for a walk for lunch, sit down, and the people in the booth behind us are talking about Kate and her new endeavors (was the Paula show out..the one gal was talking about how it turned out much better than she thought, and they were all saying they thought this was a good thing for Kate, and maybe when the show ends this is what she could do).
Then we came back to the hotel, went to the desk to get our wifi code, and the people in front of us in line, were talking about Jon and Kate.
I'm sort of afraid to get on the ship tomorrow..will I see Kate clones LOL.

I saw at least 3 people at the consignment sale this weekend with Kate hair... BAD Kate hair ... :rotfl:

I didn't hear as much chatter about them at this sale... but the last sale was the week before Kate's speaking engagement. What I did hear wasn't terribly positive, but that's nothing new. LOL.

I haven't heard a positive thing about J & K, other than on this board, in a long time. People are just so disgusted with Kate's being so mean and Jon dating the 22 yr olds. Actually I think a lot of it started with the vow renewals and how phoney it seemed. I remember the episode where Kate was on "Say yes to the dress" and looked so ungrateful for her "free" dress. I also think people are suspicious of her and Steve. Most of all people feel sorry for the kids and what they go through with all the filming. I haven't heard one good thing about Kate's hair, but Jon on the other hand, got a $5,000 freebie with those hair plugs. Isn't ironic that Kate's "free" tummytuck cost her her husband??

I don't think they will meet there goal of filming 40 episodes. I would say they cancel this show very soon with the declining ratings. Not a lot of positives about Kate's new interest either according to other sites. Like one article said, they used up there 14-1/2 minutes of fame.

I see both opinions represented on message boards, that hasn't changed. There are still people out there that are very supportive of Kate.

Yes, I am one of them! Kate isn't perfect, as none of us are, but I am supportive of Kate, not Jon.

I was starting to think there was some huge cultural difference -- here, I have yet to meet anybody who would call themselves a member of Team Kate, and about half the people I've met are disgusted with Jon (for not being a good role model to his kids, but most would say their marriage is over so he's free to philander -- that excludes those who think a marriage is never over until the priest grants an anulment)

I think the difference here is that many dads (and some moms) work either for the military, the coast card, on fishing boats or on oil rigs. There are a lot of families where the mom is doing it alone most of the time, so Kate doesn't get much sympathy here. So the irony for Kate is that the uber organized moms of large families here think they could do it better than her and with a smile on their face too.

As for the show ending early, you might have a point as I'm sure TLC has a clause in the contract that would require them to have a certain rating or be cancelled. They may want to pull the plug early so as to maintain some of their audience for specials in the future.

did anyone see the 3rd hour of the Today Show? I'm hoping someone will put the video on youtube at some point today, so I can watch it myself .. but I've read a couple of comments online today that detail Kathie Lee Gifford addressing Kate and the Larry King appearance. Apparently, Kate was in the green room watching Kathie Lee's portion of the interview and after Kathie Lee's comments, Kate said something about KL's comments to her publicist... right in front of Cassidy Gifford.

Now I have NOT seen the video .. so I won't or can't really comment on what was said. I hope the video turns up, though. I'd like to see it.

I saw the Today show. Kathie Lee said she was on Larry King talking about the difficult time she had gone through years ago. Larry asked how she dealt with it all. KL said she walked away from a very successful show and stayed home and took care of herself, kids and marriage. Kate was in the green room and turned to someone else and said, "it's called a paycheck". Cassidy heard Kate say this

Its comments like this that Kate makes behind the scenes that makes me not sympathize with her. It just seems like after every book signing, appearance, interview someone leaks a comment she makes and it just goes to show her true colors. I believe these comments happened. She comes across as being very know it all.

I also agree that the military families are the ones who deserve sympathy for their loved ones defending our country and one parent trying to keep the household functioning. I don't think J & K really get it. They should be so thankful for their 8 healthy children and that is the reason that they have been able to continue this show. The money is good, the freebies are better and 2 greedy parents want more!!!

how did Kathie Lee seem about what had happened?

Where's Doris? She's been right about the veiwership dropping off for awhile now!:thumbsup2 I laughed when I read the part that J&K+8 is trailing behind Spongebob! :lmao:

we talked about the ratings a couple of days ago, right before she left for her cruise and I went away for the weekend. funny choice of Spongebob, though. the website I follow for ratings compares it to reruns of That's So Raven. :happytv:

Ohhh tell me she is not going to be crying about the low ratings and how she will 'lose her job'. They'll probably hold prayer rallies and collect more love offerings so Kate won't have to shop the Salvation Army. (Ok snark over)

Give it up gracefully Kate!

:lmao: I think I have a serious case of the giggles right now because both of these comments had me roaring! :rotfl:

At least Spongebob is entertaining!:thumbsup2

If kate is really, really worried about providing for the kids there are several things she could do:

1. sell the big estate and buy a reasonably priced, reasonably sized house. I know a lot of large families that live in about 3500 square feet around here
(families of 7, 7, 8, 10 kids) and they manage to survive! This would also cut down on expenses--less utilities, taxes, upkeep, morgage payments, etc.--by a huge amount each month!
2. move closer to the school
3. get a job during school hours. As a nurse she should have good earning potential.
4. sell the high price vehicles and get a good used vehicle that can transport everyone
5. set a budget and stick to it!
6. use some of the interest income on their earnings to help supplement the budget
7. stop using paper goods so much! That eats up a lot of dollars and the oldest two can help wash and dry; in fact so can the younger ones if Kate uses plastic ware.

Ewwwww Cara, eat the hot dog from the other end, who knows where his mouth has been.

These are good tips but I really don't think they apply to J&K in their world. They've been living the celeb life for some time now and as Kate says they 'can only go forward, we can't go back.' These seem like normal tips for someone who was truly concerned about living paycheck to paycheck. Having said that, Kate probably does really mean what she says, that they need the show for the $. In her mind (I'm totally speculating of course) all of those things are necessary...the large home, new cars, paper plates and so on for them to live. It's pretty relative when you think about it. How many families would cut back in some areas that they consider frivolous (Starbucks for instance;)) while others consider it part of their lifestyle and not negotiable. Maybe she truly believes that without the show, they would be in financial trouble. It's hard to say for sure. I'm having a difficult time believing it's true.

If you go to the Today Show website, you can see the video interview between Kathie Lee and Hoda. I'm not sure exactly when J & K are brought up but its somewhere around the 10 min. mark.
