Jon and Kate Plus 8 Official Thread - Part 6

why. why. why.

Kate Gosselin is a single mom. We get that. But if she stopped working tomorrow, they would NOT be back at the Salvation Army. I am SO sick of the idea that they must keep doing this show for their income.

If Kate wants to work, then she should work .. it seems as though she's trying to make that happen.

But to suggest that they must keep doing this show to put food on the table (support the family) is ridiculous. :headache:

And if they DO have to continue the show to support the family? Then where's allll that money from the other seasons and projects?

She lapsed right back into the ums as soon as it got out of her comfort zone.

I thought the same exact thing when she went on about needing to support her family. You don't need to make millions of dollars a year to support a large family. I understand wanting to be able to give your kids everything you possibly can but come on. Like you said, if they stopped filming today no one would go hungry.

What was the question? Fill me in!!

Sherry asked Kate what she thought about Jon bringing that woman home? Kate said it's difficult and admitted it was difficult.

Then Joy asked: Why did you want to go on TV and expose your whole family like that? Kate explained why and then Joy went on to ask if she could pull out after Kate said that people say to her that she could pull out. And Kate said no.

IMO, there is a distinct difference between Jon & Kate Plus 8 and Kate Gosselin, author, speaker, and brand. Stop the show, continue the Kate franchise. Why can't they do that?

Kate Gosselin had one question for Victoria Beckham. She couldn't even ask it without making it about herself.

Live talk TV with a group of ladies is not a good fit for Kate. Maybe tomorrow will be better, I don't know. She's not bad. (yes, I just said that :upsidedow) But she's not coming out "shining" or a natural, if that makes sense. She seems nervous and uncomfortable, mostly.

All I know is that I like the show. I know it is reality TV and we are seeing edited versions of them and that we see what TLC wants us to see. I also know that the trips and all the freebies are perks of doing the show since they are being used as part of the show. To me it is no different then Project Runway going into a fabric store and having free run to get what they need and at the end we hear them say "thanks Mood" so we all know what store they were in. Or on Top Chef they go on locations and are always shopping in Whole Foods...plus mentioning the restaurants that the judges run...free advertising, free product placement..it's pretty much a fact of life in reality TV shows.

I don't begrudge J & K any of this, they did what they felt they need and wanted to do for their family..just like we all do. We just didn't have a TV show knocking on our doors. I'm not all up in arms over the fat that the kids have cameras around them, I'm one that thinks that pulling the show abruptly would not be a good thing because this is what is normal for the kids and with the parents splitting they need this as the one constant in their life.

I do think the show is running it's course though and will end sooner rather than later...mainly because the kids are older and with school in the future there will not be as much to film. This is when they should be making a slow transition to removing the cameras from day to day and then eventually it can just be special occasions and/or trips. I like watching the trips, I get to see places I won't go to, just like watching Samantha Brown on Travel Channel.

Excellent post :thumbsup2

Jon is too trustworthy, to bring his kids out to the fence with him.
Those people are not looking at Jon, they are looking at the kids.
Maybe Jon is correct when he says he wants to stick up for his kids,
but his actions sure don't prove it today, by letting them come to the fence and meeting strangers.
Yes, Jon is there with the kids,
but why, is he trying to make his kids feel comfortable with strangers?
Hasn't Jon ever learned the lesson,
"Stranger, Danger".
I really think Jon is out there, and the kids are trying to get his attention. It's like Jon has a fixation with the people that come to the fence and gawk at his family, home, etc.

I thought the same thing, if Jon wants the attention at the fence he should leave the kids up at the house away from the circus.

For Kate's sake, I hope the audience isn't filled with posters from their message boards----lets just say people are not happy with their choice of co-host!!!

Actually, Kate has a great deal of fans. I saw some clips from the Ohio women's conference she was at recently and it was filled with women wearing "Team Kate" shirts and singing her praises.

I agree, she does seem nervous and uncomfortable.

there were also people there that left because they thought she was fake and phony. I've read 2 completely different accounts of the speaking engagement.

I'm certain that's the case for everyone of her speaking engagements. Mostly fans, some curious people who decide they aren't really interested. That's how it was when she was here.

And who the heck asks Victoria Beckham if she still feels sexy?

I don't think she shined, but then I don't think she was 'bad'. I'd rather watch her than Elisabeth.
The only thing that caught my attention was that she will be supporting the kids (or so she said) as a single mom. I do wonder if that means Jon is keeping his share of the income and Kate is supporting the kids with hers. Otherwise, why would she be supporting the kids, and not 'us'. I thought she was careful with the wording.
I would watch her again. I think she fit right in with the rest of them. I would enjoy the show more if Whoopi wasn't there, but I guess they need one forceful person there.
At the Woman's conference, I think it depended on if you liked Kate before you went, it seems you liked her after. If you didn't, she didn't seem to do anything to draw you in to liking her. There are a few posts where people thought she was a stronger person, than they originally thought.
I can't wait until people who were in the audience start posting about the pre and after discussions with Kate.

Tomorrow with Dr. Phil should be interesting. I wonder if they will address what Jon said about meeting with Dr. Phil to work on their "brand."

I didn't see the show and even forget to DVR it :headache: but I just wanted to add that when we went to see a taping of The View there was no pre/post discussions. The only interaction with the "stars" (what do you call them :rotfl2:) were during commercial breaks. Not every commercial break allowed for audience interaction and then at most it was only 2 questions. The stars came out when they were announced just like on the show and no earlier and they left immediately following. The only star that came out at the end was Joy when she was doing a promo for a show a couple of days later. They asked us to stay in our seats so it appeared that she was sitting in the audience (and directly in front of us).

That's a bummer. I've only seen Sally Jessy and she spent time with us before and after. I had hoped they would have too.

I'd prefer Meghan McCain. I really like her.

I thought the same thing. And I wondered why no one questioned her about that.

well, that's not true. I'm sure the other co-hosts were prepped on what they couldn't and couldn't bring up. Other than Sherry's question about Jon bringing Hailey to the house, Jon wasn't mentioned.

I would watch her again. I think she fit right in with the rest of them. I would enjoy the show more if Whoopi wasn't there, but I guess they need one forceful person there.

They do need a moderator. I think it flows better that way .. I like Whoopi better than Rosie, but not as much as Meredith.

I really think that's the consensus of every Kate speech -- whatever you thought of her before, your mind wasn't changed.

Although, when she was here, I know several people who were very disappointed ... they liked Kate before, but her attitude during the speech and how she treated people at the host church changed that. I've spoken to very few people who still "love" her after her March appearance.

from The View or the women's show?

WHY will no one call her on that!!? It's crud, plain and simple.

She has been called on it. Apparently her answer has satisfied those who asked it in person, since most don't seem to continue after her answer (just on message boards, where Kate doesn't respond). Many of us on this thread are divided on if the show should continue..so either you accept the answer, or you don't, I guess.

I didn't watch the "View", but a friend from work who did told me that Kate used her usual "I will take the high road" answer when asked about Jon and Hailey and also she is going to continue to do the show for the paycheck as she is a single parent now?? I guess when Dr. Oz came on she tooted her own horn about not feeding the kids junk food and she only feeds them organic. Wonder when the last time she cooked her kids a meal?? Good old Kate, still phoney as baloney!!!!

Thanks for the updates from The View. I totally forgot to DVR it this morning - my morning was spent at the doctor with DS5 then to Target for his prescription for his ear infection before heading to work.... I'll have to remember to DVR it tomorrow.

Does anyone know how far behind "reality" they are in the show at this point? Tonight's episode is supposed to be watching a movie outside and Jon showing the boys how to fish.

Who has called her on the fact that it doesn't take a multimillion dollar income earned by her children to support her!? I'd love to see that. She claims the show is their livelihood. What will happen when the show ends? Ask her how plenty of large families make it without being on TV? So, if you could show me where this was asked and answered, I would appreciate it.

They ask about the show, she says it is their income, and then no one I have seen has questioned further. I want someone to question further. (I know they won't)

I didn't watch either so I'm only going by what I've read on this thread....

If that's what Kate said, we saw the Sam's Club (or whatever store) episode where she bought Eggo waffles and that kind of stuff. We know it's not 100% organic all the time. I would like to see her change that "answer" to that they're trying to include as many organic things as possible. I think that would be a little more believable and appropriate unless there's a valid health reason or something (backyard garden) that they only eat organic.

I thought Kate loved cooking - maybe she did because that was her quiet time before? I'm not sure. I thought from previous episodes - probably most recently the Emeril episode - that Kate made the meals, froze them and reheated. That's what I would do and we only have four in our family if I had the time to cook in large portions and the freezer space to store it all.

I don't know that Kate's "phoney" but things don't always add up all the time - I think that's the case with anyone though - making a blanket statement around friends who may know the "history" behind the comment (in reference to Kate - not you). For example, my DS5 tells people he will "get dead" if he touches a dog, peanuts, shellfish, cats, horses, grass, weeds, trees, eggs, potatoes or anything else that he's allergic to. He will look you in the eye and tell you "I can't have that. I will get dead". Now for those who don't know my DS5, they're shocked For those who know him, we know he can pet a dog but it cannot kiss him and he needs to wash his hands right away or we'll have a problem. If Kate's definition of "cooking for her kids" is making the meals and freezing them to reheat later, than that's the truth to her. (and I'm guessing Jon's happy to not have to cook when he's there if she's making the meals!)
