The kids aren't forced to film?! We are going on a ski trip so if you want to go then you have to be filmed. You want a new playhouse, okay, but the cameras are going to be there...

there were reports right after the interview was filmed that Jon made some pretty pointed comments about the show and TLC. That appears to be edited out for tonight.

It's refreshing to hear honesty instead of carefully scripted responses. I don't agree with everything Jon has done by any means, but I've got to give him kudos for that. He's keeping it real.

I will say this -- it seems like Jon truly believes what he's saying, so I would call that being honest. He may be wrong about some things eg. Kate and Steve, which could have just been jealousy talking to him, but it definitely doesn't sound like the answers were rehearsed.

pretty clear edit where the show is discussed.

So that's how he got away with doing the interview.

I want a question about the vow renewal - was it real or just for the show?

Yes, I definitely want to know that if he was already sleeping above the garage in Oct. I think Madge is right -- he always slept in that apartment and in the basement of the old house.

I feel sad about the extended family not being allowed around the kids -- I think that's probably true :sad2: There were definitely a lot of answers here -- some we had already figured out, and I'm not sure there's any way Kate can refute them now that Jon has been allowed to do an interview. Her PR people really took advantage of that factor, and now Kate is going to have some back-peddling to do -- they should have known that eventually he'd get a chance to say something.

Holy Cow, he's letting it all out. The rumors were true about sleeping above the garage. And that she ended it in October, just as Kevin and Jodi said.

Keep in mind, this is Jon's version of the truth. Kate's version is very different and I think they are both in "save self-image" mode so the real truth is somewhere in the middle. Maybe they will both agree to a polygraph test on an upcoming episode. Seriously, I just wish they would both shut-up. Take care of the children and move on with life (slowly) and wish each other happiness.

I felt for Jon when he cried about maybe he should have hugged the kids more. That was so very sad. If Jon wants to change public image then he is going to have to change his lifestyle.

Yup, I would love to see the other 2 1/2 hours.

I'm still up in the air about her ending it in October, but I really believe that he was sleeping above the garage for a long time.

there are 4 sides to this one -- Jon's, Kate's, the TLC edit, and what really happened.

agree with both these points.

I'm buying it, because I think that may be when he came to the realization that his marriage was over, because of what she said or how she said it. He went to counseling after that.

Whether or not Kate would count that is another thing -- she might say the marriage wasn't over until she filed for divorce. And so would TLC.

This interview really shows his immaturity! It's so much more than speculation and magazine blurbs - the words coming from his mouth are really going to hurt his kids in the future - families have been shattered by less than this.

Kate is a control-freak witch - has been since the very beginning, but he is so immature - instead of addressing the issues they had, he rebelled, like a teenager. He is so sullen, defiant, it's like he is thumbing his nose at his mom when he finally can get from under her control.

I am afraid this interview will come back to haunt him.

Yes, I agree. Some of what Jon states sounds plausible, while some of what Kate does as well. For instance, I think Kate most likely made it difficult for Jon to spend time with family.

Here is what Kate spent the evening doing:

Sort of reminds me of when Princess Di showed up all decked out for an event when Prince Charles was doing some sort of TV interview.

I have to say, I didn't believe him about DeAnna Hummel at all. First he says he never gets to hang out with his friends, but all of a sudden he has a friend that is a 23 year old girl and he goes to Utah with her? If he wanted to hang out with his buddies so bad, why didnt he take them to Utah?

I competely agree that there are 3 sides, his, hers and the truth.

I just didn't see it that way at all.

JMHO, but if your spouse doesn't want to be married to you, what can you do except to go to counseling (which he did).

What more could he have done?

I found him to be very believable. I want to believe that jon was telling the truth at least as how he knows it to me. I don't think he's bright enough to be very calculated and planned. I think he speaks with passion--whether it is right or wrong, truth or lie--I think it is all very real to him. You know, HIS perception.

OTOH, I think Kate has her own perception AND I think Kate can make more calculated and planned answers. I think she thinks things through more often than Jon does before she speaks. Therefore, it does not seem "from her emotions" as he kept calling it and it is rehearsed and what she is supposed to say. So, I think that makes him seem more "real" to me.

I thought he did fine. He seemed relieved to be be able to air all these things. While I think it is horrible to say something such as "I love Hailey more than I ever loved Kate"--he may think that, believe that and it might the truth for him but I do not think he should have ever, ever said that. Not for Kate's sake--but for the kids' sake. I would be absolutely crushed if my mother ever said she loved the new man in her life more than she loved my father (granted he passed away but still) it would be crushing and I'd absolutely resent her saying something like that. Please, Jon, keep that type thing to yourself. Of course now it is already said and just like toothpaste--you can't put it back in the tube once it is squeezed out.

I thought a lot of what he was saying made logical sense with what we were seeing. if she came to him in October at the dining room table table and wondered why she had ever married him, and he said it was totally out of the blue, well, the renewal could have been on the up and up in August. Was oct. when they moved into the new house? Then he moved to the garage and was paying for a house he wasn't even living in, so to speak. $22,000 in counseling bills??? Geez... that's a lot!

I would love to know what happened to end the marriage--why wouldn't she go to counseling? I found it very interesting that Jon felt like he knew EXACTLY when the marriage ended and she ...just...wasn't sure...when...that happened...so much had transpired...it was all running together...
While a lot has happened, I would think you'd sort of know--just like he felt he knew. Things that make you go hmm....

He said that he decided to go out with his buddies in Jan., and that he hadn't been able to go out with them before then. The trip to Utah with Deanna wasn't until March, and I thought it included his other friends as well.
