Jon and Kate Plus 8 Official Thread - Part 5

ETA - for example - by Kate filing first, she was able to control the county where the proceedings would be held - and she chose a county where the pleadings were not a matter of public record.

Is it normal to be able to choose which county you file in? I've never been divorced or even know anyone close to me that has but I just assumed that you would file in the county where you live.

So we know it wasn't a placement or a rental?

Well, the reports are saying she picked up her new car, so I'm pretty sure it's not a rental. I don't know it's not product placement, but we don't know that the apartments Jon is looking at weren't offered at a discounted rate either. After all the reports are saying they are looking for a camera ready place.

All I'm saying is they both seem to be out getting as much stuff as they can before the divorce papers were filed.

Boldfaced--that is the bottom line to me. They are equally culpable in this entire mess. I hope they both have a huge ahah moment and realize it's time to move forward and stop making everything all about them. Newsflash! It's not about them. It's about the kids. J&K already HAD their childhood. :rolleyes1

It depends on the state. PA allows you to chose your venue.

I'm sorry but to me the whole Kate filing on Monday was all to get attention. Saying that she had no choice but to do it on Monday due to Jon's actions over the weekend was to play the victim and to get people on "her side". The fact that she was the first one to file to me speaks volumes. If she truly was so upset when Jon told her he had a lawyer and she should get one too I don't think she would have been the first to file for divorce. You would think if she was crying for half a day she would fight for her marriage not rush to beat him in filing. Also it been my experience that the person who files first is usually the one who asks for the divorce.

I agree with this post. But it got me thinking we should summarize what we KNOW to be true, at least partly for those who came late to the thread:
1. they're getting a divorce, Kate filed on Monday in a document that says they had been separated for 2 years.
2. Jon had been trying to get out of the TV contract (not sure about PA, but here the contract might have become null as the result of the separation, depending on how it's worded)
3. Jon was planning to get a real job again -- we don't know where -- but it apparently couldn't happen while he was doing the show
4. Kate did an interview with People magazine, Jon made statements (or his attorney did) to ET
5. they've agreed to trade off and on living with the kids ie. it's not her house, she's not raising the kids alone, he's not abandoning them (even if he does get an apt. in NY)
6. I, for one, totally believe that there was an issue about Jon getting the piercings (all of them) but he refused to continue saying "Yes, dear. Whatever you say, dear"
7. I'm pretty sure Jon was in big trouble for not playing nice for the cameras at times. His most often used word = "whatever"

Sorry, but I feel like a lot of the statements made by Kate have not been substantiated. Some of the statements the press has made have been wrong, so I find it hard to believe any of them that don't sound completely realistic.

Personally, I gave up on the show after the episode in WDW when Kate said the kids were "ruined" by dripping ice cream on their clothes. This particular thread, however, is addictive.

Honestly this IMO is where her arrogance comes into play. I think she honetsly thought that he wouldn't ever leave her.

I agree with your statement.
I really believe she thought Jon would never leave either.
She made a few remarks, how she didn't want to do "this alone."
At her vow renewal, our whole family laughed.
I have a son that if he says something a couple of times, he begins to think everyone should start to agree with him. I remember when
Kate was telling her kids the vow renewal promise, she kept repeating it. Our family all starting laughing and saying, "she sounds like Matt" who is she trying to convince.

I hope no one particularly takes offense to this... but..

I am so sick of people posting that they aren't going to watch this "train wreck" anymore (yet they continue to post about gossip stories, etc). LOL You are only supporting the phenomenon.... as long as there is something to talk about-- and threads like this continue (which I don't mind a bit-- ill be watching the show too).... then the paparazzi have a reason to keep up with both Jon & Kate. Some of you wish the paparazzi would leave them alone-- but i find a ton of paparazzi photos here (and i don't mind seeing them either). If you are so anti this family being in the limelight... so anti the show, anti TLC... why not just move on from threads like this, send a little prayer their way, and let it be!?

As long as people are talking... there will certainly be cameras in their faces. Why? Because inquiring minds want to know... (even if you say you don't). If you weren't interested in this "train wreck"... you wouldnt be spending so much time reading through pages and pages of J&K gossip. Hence.... giving those reporters something to report about.

For the record, I will continue to watch the show... and im not saying I wont tune into the drama:hippie:.

I watch with sadness.
And, how are you doing?

I totally agree.

I think there are a couple of people in this thread that seem to be morbidly obsessed with the show.

Everyone is entitled to post their opinion or engage in a discussion, but some of the things I've seen here border on stalker-like behavior. :rolleyes1

Just wanted to add some more wood to the fire -- found this on another cite, posted by another forum member like ourselves, that just gave me that AHA feeling:

"It really makes me sad when I hear people describe Jon as lazy and like a child himself. You are right about one thing: Kate does "direct" him - as in she tells him what to do while she does nothing. Have you ever seen Kate giving the kids their baths on the show? I never have-maybe I missed that 1 episode! Jon is the parent doing 99% of the child care. He bathes them, dresses them, fixes their hair (God forbid he should pick the wrong color ribbon!) and plays with them outside while Kate sits in the garage barking orders/griping. I really don't recall ever seeing Kate just play with the kids! For her, it's all about the show and the appearance of a happy family. The day to day raising of the children doesn't seem to interest her. So, for those of you who think Jon is lazy, think again about how much he really does! He may be somewhat of a doormat, but lazy he is not."

Just putting it out there.

And, restating again, Kate is LYING when she says she's going to be doing this alone. They both stated that they would be taking turns in the house.

I don't think she's lying - I think she honestly believes the crap she spouts. I think she thinks Jon does nothing and has all the help in the world but when it's her "turn" life is just harder because she is an amazing supermom that works so hard and does everything right.

As far as Jon getting a job,
I could see him being offered something along the lines of a morning radio talk show thing. Or on one of those shows where they have the likes of Tanya Harding and Leif Garret doing funny commentary on outrageous videos. I do not think is a comic genuis but, I do think he could make a living mocking himself.

Are you me???:rotfl:

I don't think she means she will be doing everything by herself. I think she means alone as in "without a husband"/"being a single parent"/"not the way she saw the next 50 years of her life when she got married".

Actually, I heard it was in IT (from a reliable source)

Are you me???:rotfl:

Thank you for not making me feel alone in this sentiment.

Wishful thinking? If Kate said it enough Jon would believe her? How come we all saw it coming but she didn't?

(wedding vows) I think that is exactly what it was. I think she was sincere during those vows. I remember being a bit shocked at her saying she would try to treat him better etc. during those vows. She seemed way more into him than he was her. She even asked him for a kiss when they were dancing.

I don't think she ever thought he would leave her. As I have said, kate is nothing compared to my sister. She's been married 30+ years now and we all marvel at how he has stayed. They have 4 kids and I do not think she thinks he would ever leave her either. I think she felt like he was locked in at kid #3. She said together forever a lot during those vows. I think there was big trouble even back then. And it is MO that the vows were not deceptive--I think maybe at that point they were really trying and then once the book tour happened and he was at home and so unhappy, I think it all snow-balled on them very quickly. And very quickly they changed and very quickly they did not know who each other was anymore.

I also believe it would have had the same ending with or w/o a show.

I don't think she means she will be doing everything by herself. I think she means alone as in "without a husband"/"being a single parent"/"not the way she saw the next 50 years of her life when she got married".

I agree that this is what she was meaning when she said "alone".

I guess I'm thinking that I don't even know what Jon is capable of -- he's only just done what Kate tells him. (I mean that in the nicest way -- it's all we've eever seen on tv.)

He may be absolutely unlimited in his abilities if he had the leeway to do whatever.
