Jon and Kate Plus 8 Official Thread - Part 5

She's helping to stimulate the economy :)

I don't find her spending to be outrageous compared to the large purchases Jon has been doing.

So people should not be allowed to buy anything because others are hurting? So I should not go to Disney in September because people are hurting? So everyone should cancel their trips? Let's just not spend anything then so everyone can hurt.

I'm sure since TLC was filming there they helped pay for the $10,000 cottage rental. She's not flaunting her Starbucks and spa stuff, the paparazzi are following her around and taking pictures of it and you are choosing to look at those photos. FAO is not that much more expensive than a normal toy store depending on what is being purchased there.

Oh I'm sorry, I didn't know that your opinion was the only one that is allowed. I'm going to Disney on Friday, however, I'm not flaunting it to a girl I work with who's husband just lost his job (along with a lot of other people) and will probably lose their house. Maybe you find joy in bragging about your vacations, but I don't. I suppose you shop at FAO all the time?? In fact you are such an authority on everything.

and regarding the camping? it's only cheap if you have (or have access to) the supplies. tents, lanterns, sleeping bags, etc. all add up to a lot of $$ .. we thought we might do that last month when the weather was so cool. it was cheaper for us to get a hotel room. LOL.
I'm talking about backyard camping, and everything can be bought from Walmart or even Craig's list. You don't need sleeping bags good to below zero, blow up beds, or a fancy tent for backyard camping. My daughter joined us this year for a weekend of camping and she found an inexpensive camping package, which worked perfect for her family.

It sounds like to me, that even when they do an at home, fairly reasonable show, it could still prove to be too expensive for some people. Maybe another person will will toss blankets over some card tables in their front room because of the idea, and just use bed blankets rolled up to sleep in, and will roast the marshmallows over the grill. If Kate had done it that way, people would have said,,geesh, is she afraid to use some of her money to make it more comfortable for the kids? LOL!

You have to remember not all the viewers are talking about this show everyday ... like us:rolleyes1

They have viewers who only watch once a week & are not following every move on line.

if that means Kate will whine about the paps every week, then I won't be watching. if I'm curious enough about the episode, then I'll read a recap. I want to find a clip of the finished kitchen, I am interested in that.

For fear of more toasting marshmellows, beach sand and scenes and hearing that Daddy isn't here and I have to do everytihing alone, I chose not to watch. You can only take so much!

If you keep making this personal, this thread will be closed :(

This is a TV show, not personal friends we have to defend, or enemies we have to prove wrong. All of us are just giving out opinions, just like you are.

It's my opinion (yep, just my opinion) that the items you mentioned she is buying, are not high end items. I have shopped at F.A.O. Schwartz and my monopoly game was a whole $19 (the NYC one). It's a fun store to go into, and since their family can afford it, why not go to the fun store? She also shops at Target. Constant visits to Starbucks, spa treatments? While you may consider that spending money like water, others do not. Those places are booming, so many people must consider them normal parts of their lives. Yes, she could make her coffee at home (and that's what I do, since I can't stand spending so much on a coffee (and it woudl be for my husband cause I hate coffee) but it is her money and her choice. I see a line for Starbucks everytime I get off onto a rest area on the thruway in NY..so other's have her same taste.

And while I am not going around telling everyone I'm going to Disney (because like, do they really care?), I'm not hiding it either. I'm sorry that other people are having a tough time with the economy, but I don't consider it bragging that I am still traveling. I worked all my life to be able to do this when I retired, and I'm thankful I still can. I'm sure your co worker would be happy for you.

Those are very good points. We all have our own preferences when it comes to what we want in a TV show... and it's really difficult to speculate on what other people would want to watch, which holds true for a wide variety of shows, not just Jon & Kate Plus 8. I found it interesting when she went to the store with the coupons, because it taught me to ask about rain checks, something I hadn't thought to do before at the grocery. I liked seeing her try to get quality food and come in under budget because I do that every week.

not sure. I know people who only watch the show, and don't follow the back story. until the tabloid stuff this summer, they were largely unaware of anything that was involved with the Gosselins. they didn't realize how much help she still has.

it may not be real reality, but that is absolutely what Kate tells people it is. As recent as Monday, that's how Kate was selling it. To me, the reality is getting everyone ready to go to the basketball game, not the basketball game... that's what I want to see. :lmao:

I didn't see it, but I read that Kate claimed the beach trip was impromptu, a getaway from the remodel. That trip was planned and filmed by tlc. I really do think she/they don't people see the truth. (I don't know how!) Why does she have to make stuff up if the show is so 'real'? They are still selling that Kate is doing it all alone. And while I'm on the subject, she came back 'grouchy' from a free trip (and she wasn't doing the driving I'm sure) to a free kitchen remodel and couldn't muster up a few seconds of (there it is again) graciousness? THAT is what people in our current economy can't relate to. Endless freebies that they don't even seem that appreciative of. The bloom is coming off the rose. :)

That Regis thing is hysterical! If they don't air it that would be why!

Did I say that my opinion is the only one allowed? Please quote me where I said that. You can post your opinion all you want you just have to expect people to give you their opinion back. I wouldn't flaunt my vacation to someone who is about to lose their house either. Oh yes I shop at FAO all the time for my zero kids. I have been there whenever I am in the neighborhood to browse. I know what they sell, I know how much their stuff costs, it is more expensive than Toys R Us, but it's not like buying a Porche. If people have the money to spend I would rather them spend some of it than sock it all away. Spending it helps people keep their jobs so they don't loose their houses.

yes I am the authority on everything!! At least that is what I tell my husband.

which is another great idea for an episode ... different ways to backyard camp on different budgets!

And you're right, people would comment now about how she made it for the kids .. the viewership is accustomed to the Gosselin standard of living now. But 12-18 months ago, when TLC and Figure8 were formulating the path of the show, they could have taken it a totally different direction and this theme would have worked. Of course, people would have still complained. they always do. But it would have made for an informative and for some people, relatable/relevant show.

She did mention them, but more like explaining. Prob someone said why are you smiling with them there, and so she explained it. That they made deals with her security people.

I am curious about the pp who said they could hear the camera's clicking when the kids were in the driveway in the actual shows. Did I misunderstand that? They are a very very long way away down the driveway, off the property. The kids stay closer to the garage. I'm surprised if TLC is picking up that noise.

She did say she was grouchy, but if she hadn't, I wouldn't have known. She seemed surprised at how beautiful her kitchen was. She said she was happy with it. I didn't do any rewinding..what did she do that showed she was grouchy and unappreciative?

Well, LoraJ we finally agree on something, my husband thinks I'm an authority on everything too! My kids will second that!

Seriously, the Gosselin's went from rags to riches and it wasn't because of hard work. Their children suffered and are suffering for it. Jon & Kate are suffering. Money is the root of all evil and they are a perfect example of it.

I just think they should of ended the show and stopped putting themselves in the public eye. The publics just not buying it.

the sound was in the video link that was posted -- obviously there was more than one pap there shooting the video. There were other paps taking photos at the same time. There also seems to be quite a bit of traffic on the road where the paps are -- cars zooming by almost every second. Yes, I agree they have some long lenses on those cameras, but the fact remains that none of those videos or photos could be taken if they were not in front of the house. And J & K are well aware that the paps are out there with those long lenses.

So, when I see a video of the kids just standing around playing in the driveway, or the babysitter laying out a sleeping bag to lay down on the front lawn with the girls, it makes me wonder why they didn't do the same exact things in the BACK yard instead. :confused3

I believe on the couch part she had a disclaimer that she may not have seemed thankful, but she was. Is that where she said she was tired from driving? I think they had to put that in there, b/c a normal person would have been jumping up and down! since I didn't see it personally, I am just commenting on other's perspective of it. It was also noted they didn't really show much of the kitchen at all. Now , that I would have wanted to see. We just did our kitchen last summer and it's still fun to see everyone's new stuff. But it's not so fun to watch someone who's best friend just had to give her a new kitchen and her other friend begs to put all her stuff away for her and she just got back from a free two week vacation where all she had to do was decide where to swim, but she is still grouchy and had to point out she really was grateful even though it didn't show. (whew)

I just don't think the children are suffering because of the show. They may be suffering due to the divorce, but I think that would have happened show or no show. It's too early too tell whether or not the show will affect them negatively.

That's totally TLC editing for dramatic effect. in the season opener, before the hiatus, the paps were shown taking pictures and flashes going off everywhere, including on the video cameras. LOL. It is unlikely that a person would use a flash taking a picture of them from a distance, the flash wouldn't work. LOL.

the kitchen reveal is about 5 minutes into this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-HL2tiSJA8

I just wish she had had the same attitude in the interviews as she did throughout the show -- I kinda like her here (apart from the kitchen reveal thing, but I'll excuse that because she let her kids touch a snake)

So the point of appearing "distraught" in this week's interviews was what? :confused3

I can't keep up with this thread so maybe it's already been posted...but Kate is on Regis and Kelly tomorrow if anyone is interested...

Oh, I thought the PP meant when TLC was taping. I wondered how the hect we would hear the paps from the house. I've looked at how far the house is from the road, and no way would TLC captured the clicking sounds.

I don't know why they don't spend a lot of time in the back..or maybe they do, and only spend 15 minutes in the front while some ride bikes. Maybe it's during that 15 minutes that all the photo's are taken. I just don't have that answer.
