Jon and Kate Plus 8, Official Thread-Part 4

I think it will depend on her status as a "single mother" -- if it is proven that she had or is having an affair, then no, they won't save her. But if she comes across as a victim of the infidelity of her husband, I think the speaking checks will come rolling in as she is booked into more and more churches. It's hard to be a single mother (from experience) and doing it with eight will be speaking worthy to many.

I think she was considered a Christian role model because she and Jon refused to "eliminate" (wrong word) any of the sextuplets when they discovered they had seven in there.

Personally, I don't find her a role model in any way shape or form and believe that if she was fully loving her children, she would stop the exploitation.

And after the pictures of Jon with the "possible" joint in his mouth, I don't know that either of them should be raising those kids. My personal opinion only.

:thumbsup2 ITA

I didn't say that. But Jon has been fired from at least one job, and quit or loss two others. He hasn't exactly had high paying jobs. Jon has made it clear that he doesn't care to stay home with the kids. So, if Kate works, would she make enough to cover all the bills and the babysitting? The tups aren't in school full time yet.

I don't think (or I hope he won't) Jon will disappear, but I don't think he has any draw as far as making money, and I think (IMO) partying is fun for him right now.

Why is Kate not expected to work to support her family if necessary (without a show)? She had the higher income earning potential as a nurse.

Do you think Jon will willingly disappear from all of their lives when he is 'free'?

First, it's your opinion they children are being expoited. We have no idea if these kids now have healthy bank accounts, and K & J are not the only ones to be paid. If the kids are earning money and loving the attention, they may not agree with you, when they grow up and have their own funds.

Second (not that I ever did) but as a person from the 60's, if they take away all the children of parents that smoked something other than cigarettes, where would they put all the kids?

I'm still so flabergasted that so many think she is a horrible person. I just can't figure out what it is she did that makes her that. Snips at your husband, who also snips back? Wears a bikini? Spanks her child? Has a funky hairdo? Says ummm when she speaks? Doesn't respond to fans in the street? Takes out only a child or two at a time? What about all the nice things she does (and there are plenty of those). What about the fact she loves her children? Heck, nowadays, you don't lose your kids even if you live unmarried with someone, while you are married, or if you have an affair, as long as the kids are well taken care of.

I agree that the money train is long from over with Kate. She has tons of opportunities to write books about being a single mother, about a single mother looking for love. She can keep up her speaking gigs at churches as a single Christian mother. She can write a ton of more cookbooks, craft books. There has been a lot of talk on blogs about her hosting her own talk show. I think it will be a long, long time until the public is done seeing Kate.

- she isn't (and hasn't been) booked at a church for a few months now. Kate has no scheduled speaking engagements as of 4:45pm this afternoon. (that may change after Monday's show, though)

- she has proclaimed on the show that she isn't a crafter, and while she does activities with her children from time to time, it isn't anything original. The cookbook is already in the works, although I'm sure Zondervan is scrambling to re-do some of that to get it out this fall.

- the talk show circuit is tough. she's not that good at public speaking .. if a talk show is in the works, it will take a lot of coaching and rehearsal. what will make her show different that Rachael Ray, Oprah, Ellen, etc?

I don't necessarily disagree that money train is over. There is much $$ to be made on the products already in the marketplace. I'm mostly curious about what people think is going to make Kate Gosselin more marketable (if the show is over) than other moms.

I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Outta Here, of course.

Celebrity Apprentice.

Organic cooking show on Food Network where she hosts other chefs showing how to use organics to feed your family.

An expose on the "real story" behind the show.

A producer of reality shows.

Starting a business with kid friendly organizing ideas on HSN.

I'm just saying. The money train is still moving forward.

I think some of those could be very real possibilities .. some I hadn't considered, especially Celebrity Apprentice and HSN. I don't think there's any doubt that Kate is motivated and driven to make herself a viable brand.

We don't know if the contract has been broken with TLC, though. (unless I've missed some news) They may be moving ahead 100% with Kate.

perezhilton.com (page 1 right now) is saying jon was apartment looking in NYC today at Trump Towers. How far is NYC from where there new house is now?

I've always been "team Jon", but there's no reason why if he is moving out, he can't find himself somewhere to live in the town where the rest of his family lives.:sad2:

When you get a belly tuck, don't they pull the skin down and cut you a new belly button hole, but the actual belly button stays right where it was? I don't think there was much Kate/the doctor could do about where the belly button is..wouldn't that be where it was when she was born?

it can be performed differentlyl by different doctors. when the surgery is performed there is a huge hip to hip incision made, extends further to the sides if needed. then an incision is made about at the waist , all that skin and fat is cut out in between. the skin underneath the bust , slightly above the waist is stretched down and attached to the hips and a new belly button is created. the doctor normall asks if the person wants to wear high cut bikini or the regular style the incisions are made. kate doesn't have the high cut style or the incision would be v shaped narrower. the size of ones torso might be a factor in where the belly button it is placed , and the body looks different laying down than standing up, which is why it is marked up before the surgery with the guidelines. sometimes , the scar can be longer on one hip than the other side. they don't always get that perfect even though they are plastic surgeons. overall , i think it was a pretty decent tummy tuck. my mum had this procedure done . my mom's belly button looks much cuter , but Kate's sides look better. i think she looks alright in a bikini and shouldn't worry about wearing one. i think she should have picked a bikini bottom with a little more height to conceal the scar she shows. then she would look almost perfect .

The surgeon actually addressed it when people were commenting about her belly button. He siad it is in the same spot. He left it there pulled down her skin and cut out a new hole.

Can you imagine watching this seasons opener if it was your parents??? What about this big annoucement? Let's assume it's about a divorce....those kids will see their parents announcement of a divorce on TV. Of course no one knows if it will be that but WOW.

I wouldn't want to watch my parents on TV discussing their marriage.

This (and previous episodes with "unflattering" footage) have always been an issue for the people who are genuinely concerned about the impact this does/will have on the children.. Who cares about Kate's bikini; her hairstyle; Jon's "puffy" face; or a million and one other things that really don't count for much in the "grand scheme" of things?? They're adults - who can take care of themselves and do what they please - as long as it's legal.. I don't care what Kate wears - I don't care if Jon has a motorcycle - I don't care what kind of coffee Kate drinks - I don't care if Jon has an earring.. To me that's just "silly" stuff.. :confused3

You can not announce your divorce on TV if that is in fact the annoucement. They can stop filming. They must know by now what price filming their family's everyday lives has, for them and their kids. Will they continue? You can't change the past, but what about the future? I guess we'll see what they have chosen for themselves and the kids.

It's been made perfectly clear - over and over again - that there were problems way back when Season 4 ended.. If they had been interested in doing the "right" thing - shielding their children and themselves from all that has evolved since then, they would have ended the show right then and there.. That didn't.. In Kate's own words, "She's moving forward. There's no going back." They made a choice - a bad choice - and not only do they have to live with it, but they have chosen to continue to make one bad "choice" after another..

People tend to have empathy for those who are "helping themselves".. When Jon & Kate make the choice not to air their dirty laundry on television for all the world to see - as well as for their children to be exposed to in any number of ways - people might look at them in a different light..

I have never wanted their marriage to end - never.. I would have liked nothing better than to see them end the show and try to salvage their marriage.. For whatever reason, they chose not to do that.. They continued to "put it all out there" - at the expense of everyone involved.. It's a little too late for them to be crying "foul" now..

I think that the public wants to know if the kids to in fact have bank accounts and want an accounting of the work hours the kids have. The episode with the Good Housekeeping cover shoot was really revealing about how much work goes into this sort of thing. If that is happening several days a week, then this might be a little too mcuh.

Jon / Kate were asked if they would buy the kids a car when they reached driving age and they responded that they think their kids will have to buy their own cars. I think that if the kids have been paid for their work thus far and that money is invested for them, buying a car in college should not be a problem. Hopefully each child has an account and money for college , and whatever else that child / parents determine is needed.

What I can' t understand is why do they need a mortgage on a 1 M house at all. They should have this paid for already. Their salary is 50 to 75 K per episode and doing 40 a year. Maybe the mortgage is just needed to help right off taxes ? Not sure. Hopefully, they are saving a huge chunk of this money for their future and the kids.

Lots of people genuinely care about the children, we just don't all happen to agree with what we think has caused or hasn't caused damage to them. While I may change my mind, once I see where they are going with Monday's show, so far, I still believe the kids are happy and loved. I don't see any abuse, so far. There isn't just one group on this thread that believes a certain way that genuinely cares about them. Each have different opinions about what affect this series have, but I think it's been pretty clear than most here genuinely care about the children.

Apparently a lot of people who have posted on this board care about those things. We have tons and tons of threads just talking about those items. I may agree that those things don't matter but again, we all have differences of opinion, and to some they seem to matter.

Let's just say for fun a wholesome family type program does not come to fruition for Kate. Could you see her doing an E type show a la Kendra, Denise Richards or Kardashians. Or even a Brett Michaels type of show "Tour Bus of Love" Kate could do the school bus of love in search of Mr. Right. Do you think she would sell out even more than, IMOP, she already has?

I'm sure the public does want to know, and I assume it would serve a purpose (we would then be assured the kids were paid well). But then I remember Bill Gates giving a large sum to charity and people said..that's it? He's just giving a lousy few million, with all he's worth? I bet the same would be true of K & J. No matter how much goes into the kids accounts, people will complain. TKC says the work days are well within the law. It would be nice if they shared that..oh, they did, and no one believed them LOL.

I also think (or should say wonder) how much debt they came into this show with and how much is their actual take home. If they earned a million (or two..we really don't know for sure) a year, and 60 or 70 percent went into incomve taxes, then a chunk into the kids then the two mortgages, then feeding the kids, they may be rich in paychecks, but not in money. I doubt that they would actually get to keep enough in a couple years to pay off a million dollar house mortgage and keep recent on the house taxes.

I of course have no idea in real life, but I've seen famous millionaires go under and lose their homes, so I think it depends on how the management went. I assume they have to pay people even to manage it and a lot of money goes out on utilities, and other mundane day to day items. I hope they did manage what they have, well. Of course a divorce will certainly put a dent into any savings..the lawyers tend to get rich in celebrity divorces.

Jon, getting an apartment in NY may very well be just what TLC planned. Can you imagine all the shows they could have lined up and all the exciting things to do with kids in NYC??? Perfect for many more seasons!!!

Or does it mean he's willing to step up to the plate and grow up? Or does it mean he gets a chance to go back to being a kid and playing?

Jon seems to be enjoying the "new" Jon. Fast cars, parties, smoking, earrings...looks like he may be enjoying the single life.

I think it would be good for Jon to get a job, he and Kate were together to much once he quit his IT job. If he does move out into this NY apartment, I certainly hope they don't really split up the kids. How awful.

Depending on what happens Monday..I think I may be done with this show. It has become to depressing.

I have a question for you loyal views and posters. Do you think waiting to have this special announcement on Monday could back fire on them (TLC/the show/ Gosselins/ ratings). Why couldn't they have a special episode say, this past Wednesday instead of waiting it out 'til Monday? I just see the lag time as more time for speculation, rumors, etc. from the media and beyond. I dunno, what are all your thoughts on this? :goodvibes

I won't be watching - and many others have already stopped watching - but for some, the drama will draw them in (or the hope that they are going to announce they are ending the show) - which is what accounted for such a large audience with the Season 5 opener.. I think curiosity will win out - but in the end, more people will "tune out"..

As for the lag time - according to the info I received in an email recently, they are gathering as many high paying sponsors as TLC can draw in.. This episode could prove to be a real deal breaker for them (and they are very aware of that) so they need to generate as much money from this particular episode as they possibly can..

The bottom line remains the same - money and greed..

I am disgusted by TLC and Jon and Kate. This is too much. Having this on video will hurt their children later in life. If Kate says one more time that her kdis are the most important thing to her I am going to scream! That is the entire problem lady - your husband should be first, not your kids! THose kids will never know "peace" once their parents divorce - they will always long for their parents to be together. I am disgusted that this is on tv - I will not watch on Monday! I stopped watching a few weeks ago actually. I am done caring about their messed up lives. THEY DISGUST ME! But I do feel soooooooooo bad for those beautiful kids!

Good for you! One less viewer..:thumbsup2

And yes - it's the kids who will suffer - because these "videos" of their "happy" childhood aren't just going to diasppear off the face of the earth..:(
